Hey folks, I wanted to raise some awareness about a Discogs scam that almost got me.
 
Earlier this week I was about to buy the Bad Religion box set from a seller on Discogs who looked legit. Almost 300 items sold, high percentage of positive feedback, and appeared to be located in the UK. Price was below average but not so amazing that it was too good to believe. Figured the guy was just looking for a quick sale.
 
DM'd the guy with a few questions about condition and shipping and he got back to me quickly.  In hindsight, I should have asked for pictures too.
 
Anyway, I put my order through and go to pay.  I get an error. I try again and again over the course of an hour then I get a message from the seller saying "hey, is something wrong with the order?". I told him I was having issues with the Discogs payment at checkout and he gives me an email address to send payment direct via PayPal.
 
Not proud of myself but I almost did it. I actually tried to send the payment through but thank fuck it was flagged by PayPal security as a high dollar value international transfer and didn't go through. I go into PayPal's support chat to figure out what's up. Meanwhile I keep getting messages from the Discogs guy asking where the payment is.
 
PayPal confirmed that they flagged the transfer and asked me to confirm I wanted to send the money.  At the time I said yes and they said I was now clear to send at my discretion. This is when it dawned on me that there was no option to send the money Goods and Services - only Friends and Family. Red flag goes up and I messaged the Discogs dude that I am not going to send almost $900 CAD as Friends and Family - we need to figure something else out.
 
I wake up the next morning and my order is cancelled. Discogs guy is no longer responding to my messages.
 
At first I'm bummed that I missed a good deal and I'm mad that the Discogs checkout screwed me over. Then I think about it a little more and start Googling the same type of scenario.

People's accounts are being hacked, items are posted for sale, their payment settings deliberately disabled, and then the scammer messages for a Friends and Family PayPal transfer. The other reason I think this is what happened to me is because PayPal customer support told me the guy's name tied to the PayPal account. I googled it afterwards and it's a Ukrainian name.
 
So now I think I dodged an expensive bullet but wanted to share my near miss with others.
 
Be smart about paying for stuff and maybe change your Discogs password. Stay safe out there.
 

Take out the first 3 min and leave the last 4 and it’s a great track. It’s not terrible and could work well as the album closer. I’ll wait for the rest to judge it more.
 
side note. Has anyone else noticed Aaron’s voice change from a few years back that he’s kept? It started with his solo stuff and I can’t stand it. He just sings different on his parts compared to previous UO records. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it bothers the hell out of me. His last solo album was murdered by it.

Really want this on vinyl but the LAST thing I was going to do at FF was run around do a scavenger hunt and wait in insane lines while bands were playing. A great idea with a shit rollout IMO.

This will 100% happen and anyone buying records in 2019 should be prepared for the eventuality of their entire collection being thrown into a dumpster by whoever is tasked with cleaning out their house after they die.

Apparently they have  a new guy doing vinyl now, so I have some hope. Regardless, I am all over that Children of Fire. Probably my favorite Solid State release next to I Am Hollywood. Speaking of....

Pretty tasty.

300 at once is going to be very tough. Airlines won’t allow you to check anything over a certain weight (often 70 or 100 lbs depending on the route/airline). So you’d have to check multiple items, and the excess baggage/overweight fees will be nuts.

this album was easily the hottest garbage of 2018.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I just figured this out and it's a pretty cool easter egg--there's actually a  secret message hidden in the title of the record, about what you should do if you ever find this album in your iTunes

I wish they stayed broken up, this album seriously blows. 

Can't believe this album is what we get after 8 years of waiting. This is barely an Underoath record at all, just wow.  I fell for the meme.
Also if thought Rapture was bad, give Wake Me a whirl--it's somehow laughably worse

1) Hopefully we get a 7" of those CD bonus songs later.
2) I just got through watching all the "Making of" videos posted thus far and I'm gonna guess that the problem with this album may be pretty apparent. At one point Aaron says that they needed to finish up some drum stuff they wanted to change and that they had already been in the studio for 60 days. And then they talk about how they had never done pre-production on a single album and that this was the first one. Gonna guess that's the problem right there, they just worked on these for too long and essentially just processed all the grit and feeling out of it.

Welcome to the community! I found this place on a friend's recommendation, and while I don't post that often, I enjoy finding out about new releases and good deals through here. Also, there's a lot of good knowledge about setups here and things like that. 

But aren’t BMTH terrible, too?

I like it. I think it sounds like BMTH more recent record.

honestly this new single sounds more like dad rock than the new thrice did. 

The new song really isn't very good at all. If this was a new song by a new band not a single person here would think twice of saying its generic. I still have hope the album will be good, but for a band with 6 people in it, that song sure is plain. There are bands with 3 people that sound more robust than this.
