I don’t doubt that they will mass release the 12” on black once the book sells out.

or they’ll do a paperback with the 12” for like $50-$60

i don't know. it's not like it's a full length LP. It's only 7 songs. I think they would have a hard time selling these books without the record. And they know if they just sell the record, a bunch of fans are going to be pissed off. The Boxer Live LP never got a second press aside from the RSD press. There's really not precedent for this exact situation.

It's really a gamble though, because if you really want the record enough to buy the book and then there's a vinyl-only option, I don't see the book holding its value. But if you don't buy the set waiting for a separate LP and it never comes, the prices will only go up.

I think they may put the songs up on a streaming platform like they did with the Boxer Live LP and the Live Cassette sets, but releasing the record on its own would be kinda shitty after a bunch of people paid a premium for it initially.

  2. Listened to the set a bit more over the weekend.

There are some millisecond gaps between tracks on DTGL that seem to be the biggest complaint. It honestly didn't bother me that much but I understand the gripe.

A couple of the records are slightly "bowled" but using a record weight solved that.

The second side of LITSOS gets a little hairy on the last track. The grooves are super tight and there's some inner groove distortion. I would expect a crosley would have a hard time on the last track. LITSOS is definitely pushing it for a single LP.

That 2012 pressing of TOCS is god awful.

Was it? I honestly don't know if I ever spun it because it didn't have the bonus track that the first press had. I just sold my copies of the 2012 press. But The Changing of Times press that came out at the same time sounds pretty good.

No Underoath record could possibly be the best sounding record I own because that's just silly.

But I just A/B'd the new press and original press of TOCS and the new pressing is definitely superior. That may be primarily because the original pressing is a bit too crowded with the bonus track. Definitely more inner groove distortion on the first pressing.

Regardless, I had the 2016 DMM set of TOCS and DTGL and that thing was unlistenable. Sounded like they emailed some 128 kbps mp3s to pirates press to make that garbage. Which was a shame, because the art/packaging was pretty cool.

So has anyone here actually gotten their copies yet and can confirm this sounds like shit?

I haven't had a lot of time to do any super-critical listening, but i spun TOCS and LITSOS yesterday afternoon while I was finishing up work. Definitely the best pressing of LITSOS yet.

TOCS sounds much better than the awful DMM TOCS/DTGL that came out years ago.

No complaints on the pressing quality. My biggest gripe is printed inner sleeves. I don't understand why labels still do them.

Yup you’re right and they take up like half the album art too. Why?? Also weren’t they originally supposed to be actual obi strips? Or am I remembering wrong..it’s been so long since I ordered these.

in person, they look exactly like they did in store mockups:

I doubt the fold-over card was a selling point for anyone. it definitely looks like these were designed with the idea that these would be sold exclusively on an 'observatory' tour.

Heard the beginning of side b on chasing is almost unlistenable

there's some weird imperfections on an inch or so of the edge of the record (outside of the grooves). if someone drops the needle on it, it'll like make the tonearm hop and bounce on the record. ,  but otherwise it sounds pretty good (source material aside). my guess is folks are doing this or it's a case where the grooves have issues where they don't play properly on a table without a counterweight (like a crosley).

  7. Attention Brandtson fans! Over the last few months, Steadfast records has reissued two more Brandtson records never before released on vinyl and cassette. 2003's Death & Taxes EP with two bonus tracks as well as their 1997 debut, Letterbox. Also, check out the new LP from Golden Streets of Paradise (Former Brandtson members Myk Porter and Adam Boose), "Throes".  You can also pick up a few other Brandtson releases including the final copies of Send Us A Signal.

I bought this, not looking to sell, but don’t think that it is a good release and definitely not worth the current price. There is WAY to much sibilance. No idea if it’s just my copy or if that was how they EQd for the vinyl. My CD box set was a significantly better experience for me though. I generally prefer vinyl, but not this.

Mine sounds great. Listen to it all the time.

  9. Man, I kinda envy those of you that are enjoying it. I honestly have no problem with the folks that want to listen to him. I guarantee you we all support much more evil and horrible people than Ryan. But I've just lost so much respect for him because he had a chance to show he was a mature adult and show some sort of empathy or (at least) understanding.

I just see him as the immature narcissist that he has always been, now.

His music strikes more like sad, destructive loser than hopeless romantic now.

Toxic defensive personalities really just turn me off, and unfortunately, it overshadows his music for me.

EDIT: Whoa, Just looked back at the last few pages of this thread.

Loving specific art doesn't mean you have to love the artist. It's okay to feel complicated thoughts about situations like this. Ryan has his own label. I believe he lost the deal he had with Capitol or whatever. He should be allowed to release music, it's up to record stores if they want to carry it.

Like I said, for me, I'm just not enjoying his music like I used to. It's okay for those who do. But defending his actions or blaming the victims is bullshit. Ryan is a textbook narcissist. (A lot of prolific artists are). I've seen him play a show where he was a total dick. I've also (in the last few album cycles) seen him be really gracious and friendly and put on an awesome show.

Narcissism and bipolar disorder often overlap. The highs are high and the lows are low. He clearly has some mental health issues that are difficult to treat. While there's no excuse for his behavior, citing the 'highs' doesn't defend the 'lows'. I always loved to see Ryan when he was doing well. Unfortunately, like most narcissists, he doubles down when things get shitty.

I'll keep hoping he gets better and owns up to his bullshit. But having been burned by people like him in my own life, I have very little confidence he'll ever get better. And I honestly feel horrible for him for it.

The arena show i went to on the reunion tour was so undersold that they blocked off the upper levels and upgraded everyone lower bowl. And even that seemed half empty. Will his ego not allow him to just do packed 5k venues?

i went to both the Chicago shows and the united center was 99% full on night one and 90% full on night two.

though, in his announcement, he specifically mentioned the large scale production that would be too large for theaters.

  11. On Instagram, Billy just made a bunch of announcements.

-The MACHINA release is currently being mixed and sits at around 50 songs.

-The band is currently recording a sequel record to MCIS/MACHINA which would be the third part. It will have 33 songs.

-The band is also currently recording the third part of the Shiny series which would be the third part.

-The band plans on doing a Mellon Collie arena tour as soon as it's safe to do so. They won't be playing the album in full, but the night would be themed around Mellon Collie and songs written around that time. The setlist would pull from MCIS & AFH and more.

    Pretty exciting stuff.

  12. They could've easily done a 12" with so impossible on one side, summers kiss on the other. put each cover on one side of the jacket. do a blue/orange split LP. $20. Knowing Chris, the spiderman thing was the bridge for it to make since for mondo to press these.

Isn't vindicated on LP3? i assume that'll get a reissue at some point.
