  1. I'd love to have one of those tour copies, too... but I can all but guarantee there won't be any left by the time Boston rolls around. No way something that gorgeous lasts that long. Also, I'm dubious of buying a 2nd copy because I doubt I'd be able to unload my white copy anywhere for cost. What do you guys think about that possibility? There were so many pressed... and I only want 1 copy of the album.
  2. So I want to keep talking about this album, because this thing is a masterwork. Without question, I think this is their best album. What's really interesting though is that I've come to absolutely love The Anaesthete now. They're very similiar in compositional character with the songs. I used to hate that album, but now I think it's rising to be my 2nd favorite, if that can even be said. I'm wondering if they'll go back and tweak the old songs to have a 2nd guitar part live, because I would love to hear a bunch of that stuff, especially from Wake/Lift.
  3. Just gotta bump this so we don't forget! I've been spinning my CD copies of Cale:Drew and Subsets of Sets quite a lot, and this material is amazing. Part of me likes these albums a lot more than Sines, only because there are more full-band tracks. Sines has a lot of the super ambient stuff, which is cool, but I'm not as into. I want the full group bearing down on me with that titanic wall of sound and all those delay pedals screaming at me with the thundering drums and bass. Either way, the group kills. I can only imagine what's like to catch these guys live.
  4. Can't wait to read your report, man. I was so unprepared for their sonic magnitude. What a thing.
  5. That link only has 3 songs on it now???? EDIT: Wow, Rioseco is absolutely fucking stunning. What a track. Very different dynamic level for Caspian to maintain for a song. It's like Caspian in a fancy nightgown dress at a ball thrown by the local drug kingpin: beautiful and light, but dark. EDIT 2: Jesus Christ... Arcs of Command. Good fucking lord... Wow. This might be my new favorite Caspian song. This tune just does not quit.
  6. Definitely streaming later tonight. I hope there are more instructional videos like that one, too. I was super surprised to see that Guitar World knows of Caspian!
  7. 2nd half of this song is why I listen to Deafheaven. Fuck all that aggro riffing and them trying to co-opt Morbid Angel grooves. I want the fucking dark melodicism. 2nd half of this song is fucking brilliant. First half did pretty much nothing for me.
  8. Its just too easy sometimes. Moksha is definitely up there, too. I love the ending to that track. And Loft. But really, all of Caspian's songs are equally awesome. I don't think they could write anything bad if they tried. New album looks to be my favorite thus far based on the few tracks released. Which is interesting, because Waking Season was the album that got me into the band, and its now the album I listen to the least.
  9. LOL. Hook, line, and sinker'd. I knew that would get you guys, hahaha. You guys made me literally laugh out loud at your responses, so I got everything I wanted to out of that. I don't know that I'd call it my favorite song, though. Maybe not even by a long shot. If I HAD to pick, I think I'd have to go with Quovis/Further Up/Further In, followed maybe by Gone In Bloom and Bough, Some Are White Light, Loft, Procellous...
  10. Do you have any thoughts on which presses sound the best for the S/T album and AtE/BtS? Those are the 2 main post-rock albums left that I haven't yet acquired. I've been debating picking up the dual release, but the cover artwork for AtE/BtS is so sick that I want to have that.
  11. i love the end of Sycamore because it makes me think of the best versions of Drums by the Grateful Dead. Sycamore also has a few other cool parts, too.
  12. Yeah, very muddy. I was about.... 20ish feet back, stage right. The high end was just a mess of piercing distortion, and the drums and bass weren't very loud at all. This was at The Met in Providence. Was quite disappointed. Went in expecting to have a religious experience, left with painful ears. Can't wait for Montreal/Boston though.
  13. We're almost there, anyway! Only a couple more weeks, man. I'm just stoked they're bringing fucking LOFT back into the setlist for this tour. At least that's what Phil said on Facebook. And we all know Facebook is the truth.
  14. Link to that video doesn't work anymore... Direct link: WOAH THIS SONG!!!! YAAAASSSSSS!!!! I never want that loop to end. Never.
  15. They had some shirts that I wasn't in love with, as well as vinyl and CD copies of the new album. They had this one sick shirt but it had "God's pee" in big letters along the bottom, and I wasn't thrilled about having that. Although I'm kind of regretting not picking one up now. My favorite moment was them doing The Sad Mafioso and the dude sits stage left with his back to the audience had the most beautiful, round warm guitar tone I've ever heard. Almost no treble. He had some weird small amp too and most of the knobs were turned all the way down haha.
  16. I'm friends with the dude who recorded Lawn Boy, Dan Archer. He comes into my store all the time and has a recording studio here in Delmar, NY. Probably going to jam with him in the next couple weeks. He's an awesome dude.
  17. Yeah I mean, Godspeed was loud but it was comfortable loud. It was enveloping. It wasn't "holy shit this is deafening" and my ears were fine more or less by the time I got back home (45 minute drive). Some bands, like the first time I saw Caspian, I regret not wearing earplugs because the sound was fucking ATROCIOUS and the high end was so god-damn piercing and painful any time the guitarists went above the 12th fret for any of the peaks. Awful, awful experience, that was. Also, which one of you fuckers picked up "Key" on clear/black from Discogs for only $30? GRRRRRR!!!!!
  18. Dude, you don't even know what you're in for. Don't wear earplugs. Don't drink. Don't take any drugs. The new songs.... wow. Just wait. I'm still reeling. I haven't been this impacted by a live performance in a long, long time. Scrambling to figure out how I can catch more of this tour...
  19. They played a pre-fest show this year. The fest starts tomorrow, I guess. That show last night was fucking unreal. Hope Drone and the new song just absolutely DESTROYED. And then to get East Hastings (the Sad Mafioso) at the end.... wow. Those guys have the sickest fucking guitar sounds. The stage is literally covered in pedal boards.
  20. Holy fucking shit. I had no idea. So, I just saw these guys for the first time tonight in Hudson, NY. Kicking off their Fall tour. They played all of the new album, plus some stuff I know I've heard before (sadly no Storm). But oh my GOD what a fucking experience that was. I see shows sober, and that music had me enraptured like nothing I've ever experienced before. It was better than the best Phish jams I've seen. Pure ecstasy. Go see this band. http://cstrecords.com/gybe/
  21. HOLY GOOD LORD. GO FUCKING SEE GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR. WOW. Utterly... wow. Exceeded any expectations and transcended my wildest dreams for what that band can do live. Holy fucking shit. That was easily one of the most transformative live things I've ever seen. That sound...
  22. I have a question for you guys. Can a worn-out needle lead to high-end distortion? Im noticing that lately I've been getting a lot of high end white noise kind of on a lot of my records. Sort of like a static sound. Just enough to be noticeable. I have a Stanton T.62 and I want to replace the needle, but I'm not at all sure of what to replace it with. Some people have recommended an entire new cartridge, but I'm not sure if that's necessary or would be helpful? I know my needle has to be worn because its 5 years old and I listen to lots of records. Would a simple Shure replacement one work fine?
  23. So, this band Arrowhead just released their debut LP, and you can find it here: http://arrowheadma.bandcamp.com/album/a-collection-of-what-youve-lost-2 This is a fantastic mixture of post-rock and screamo, kind of like a more aggressive version of Gates. They also remind me of the band Ghost Key and Seasons In Wreckage. Fantastic production here. The I/O Facebook page posted about it, and I checked them out because that band rules too. Every song so far has been amazing, I'm very impressed by this. Please check this stuff out.
