  1. There's a mall about 30 minutes north of here that I visit on occasion. It's carried a very limited supply of vinyl for as long as I can remember. It was on the list of stores that received physical copies of the S/T splatter, much to my surprise. No one in this area seems to listen to vinyl, so there's a fair chance that a couple of copies may be in stock. I'll make it a point to check the next time I'm in town. Would be looking for cost + shipping for anyone still on the hunt.
  2. I can't speak for everyone here, but I think Reports From the Threshold of Death is my favorite release of theirs, currently. I was very pleased with the direction they took on that album, and I'm expecting some pretty great things from this EP. Holding out for that Prosthetic Records PO.
  3. I'm really eager to see the first photos (or description) of this charcoal. I think it's got potential, assuming it's not a fancy title gimmick.
  4. It'd require some additional work as far as monitoring registration, but you're correct: it's very possible to limit certain sections of the forums to guests, or members with 500+ posts, 1,000+ posts, etc. A lot of shareware forums will display just a few "casual" boards, and save the legitimate ones for registered members. You're also right in guessing that it wouldn't deter flippers completely. It'd be very easy to register and participate here on the forums while flipping records on the side, if you so chose. But I really do like your idea of having a "public" release board, where everyone is allowed to enjoy discussion of new albums and tentative release dates. And then a hidden board where spontaneous POs drop, or you see those lovely threads akin to "a box of this incredibly rare, OOP record was uncovered in storage. Act quick if you want one!" I doubt it'd ever happen, but it's a fun concept to entertain.
  5. Sweet. Hope you're able to breathe a little easier now. All those neg votes are definitely showing me. [edit] And so the proper tone is established here; [edit 2.0] I wanted to come back to this post to elaborate. First and foremost, I'm sorry you feel the way you do. There may be a few members on this board that I frequently disagree with, but I have zero animosity for any user on the boards. Regardless of how rough I may play around, it's the internet. The internet. If a stranger is knotting up your panties on a message board, you're doing it wrong. End of discussion. I kind of wish more people would acknowledge this more often. With that in mind, I'd say that I try not to step on [too m]any toes here on the boards. I've made some great friends through this community, and have scored many-a-fantastic records through it. Despite all the bickering and ridiculousness, I really do enjoy this forum. And I am grateful for everything in it, good or bad. Variety is the spice of life... and at the end of the day, wading through bitch-fests and petty behavior is worth it if I can have my laughs, deals, and opportunities to nerd out about music. But let's be real -- it's impossible to appeal to everyone. There is no way that 100% of this forum is going to like me. And quite frankly, I'm okay with that. But there is no point in bending over backwards for you or anyone else in an attempt to gain your approval. Win some, lose some is the proper mentality to embrace when making acquaintances on this board. Or anywhere else, for that matter, online or off. It's funny that you'd say I'm an elitist, or that I take an elitist approach with my posts. I've been a member on the boards longer than some people, sure... and I do have more posts than a good chunk of the VC population. But that certainly doesn't put me above anyone else. I know that, have always known that, and will always know that. And so should you. I was shat on when I first registered here at VC in the Proboard days. I've spent my time learning the ropes and being "victimized" by the veteran posters of this board. I was never above that, so please discard the idea that I view myself as some sort of higher entity here on the forums. Thanks. I poke fun at new people because it's entertaining. The last member I went off on was StrangeTerrain, only before having a sincere exchange of messages shortly afterwards. Feel free to ask him about it. I don't think the guy is any less intelligent than you or I; I merely had fun at his expense of being a newbie. If the difference in our post counts lead you to believe that makes me a "veteran elitist", then that's your problem. Certainly not mine. And if we're being honest, how boring would this board be if 100% of all members - new and old alike - didn't ask goofy questions or post some cringe-worthy threads from time to time? That's VC entertainment, bud. I'd really be an asshole if I let that slide by, untouched. Everyone wises up sooner or later. Get in the laughs while you can... especially if they're all in good jest. I occasionally make fun of the generic VC tastes because I'm 25 and no longer listen to the same bands I did in high-school. It's a free country; listen to what you like and disregard anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. Or get some thicker skin. I'm sorry that you (literally) own 40 NOFX 12"s. If I imply that you should listen to something other than pop-punk for a change, that's not me being a dick. It's forum banter based off your specific collection. I've harped on people for binging on Hot Topic releases exclusively, and for having mallcore tastes. Get over it. There is no official standard for what constitutes Good Music. And if there was, I'm sure that I'd personally miss the mark myself. And lastly, flipping. This has been a heated topic for as long as I can recall being a member. There are two very valid sides to the argument. At the end of the day, it is a shitty thing to do, but it is hardly illegal. Capitalism, free market, so on, so forth. We've all read the debate. But regardless of what your stance is, I don't think it's "elitist" of me to point and laugh at some dude trying to sell three records - all released within the last 10 years - for over $1,000. That's not snobbery. It's ridiculous. And I see no wrong in pointing that out. As far as that "gem" of a thread goes; I'd call it tough love. It's common sense and sale / trade know-how that wasn't elaborated on, in the initial guidelines thread. I don't view myself as Moses delivering the ten commandments, if that's the impression you get. The words ring true, but they do not carry more weight simply because I posted them. Copy and paste them in a new thread; I'll delete the one that's up and you can have "all the glory" or whatever delusion you've got in your mind. So that's basically it. New members. Music. Flipping. Those are three things I have fun with. If you feel the urgency to be butt hurt about that, that's your loss. I can't be bothered to care, truthfully. And if you feel the need to vote down everything I say in hopes of making yourself feel better, you've got much larger problems in life than online etiquette. If you're really that uncomfortable with the posts I make, how about you speak up about them? Call me out. Either bluntly, or with a subtle remark. Or PM me, so long winded explanations like those don't clutter up threads where they don't belong. Anything is more respectable than trying to anonymously take me down a peg with your tail between your legs.
  6. Yo jeremybentham - why do you downvote any post I make where I talk down on flippers? You want to get something off your chest?
  7. To be fair, I think it was made clear from the first page of this topic that it wouldn't exactly "take off", or generate too much interest in the community as a whole. You want "definitive" for the forums? Advertise this topic at the top of every page with a banner. Make the voting more streamlined. Require a vote to unlock posting abilities every 48 hours. That being said, I think this is a fun and interesting topic. Definitive or not, I'm eager to see where it'll go and who will contribute. And furthermore, how are we gauging definitive? Couldn't we just pull up sale numbers, radio success, number of singles, etc.? Surely, that would gauge just how definitive the album's impact is. Do we look at the release date, and determine which albums "define" future generations of music? That seems plausible to me. This first round was a perfect example of how I expect the thread to flow. (Or rather, what I'll be contributing to it.) I'd be a fool to argue that Abbey Road isn't a landmark record. But for me? I probably couldn't care less if I were to ever hear it again. I respect the Beatles for what they accomplished, but I don't really find enjoyment in their music. So for me, Abbey Road is pretty low on the totem pole of what I consider "legendary" Letter A records. But this just goes back to the above paragraph -- what are we basing the "definitive" factor on? For simplicity's sake, I would assume it's personal taste. And the majority of the votes in this thread would suggest that. The fact that the thread is "open" to personal votes would indeed imply that the board - or specifically, the select portion of the board that is participating - is defining our favorite records. It's a small pool at the moment, sure, but I think it works.
  8. I shouldn't be surprised. I'm confident that 90%+ of the big flippers on eBay either post or lurk here. It's wishful thinking, but it'd be lovely if the boards were private, and made available only to registered users. And taking that daydream even further, I'd love to see some strict e-mail or IP bans on accounts if they're linked to these eBay clowns.
  9. I have no idea who queencityvinyl is, but she's off her goddamn rocker with most of her auctions. Making the rest of the flipper prices look rather normal, I'd say. (And these sold items of theirs? I have a hard time believing them.)
  10. Sitting at 50 over here. King of regretting leaving the house without a hoodie.
  11. I've got a friend who tried to practically give that print away, for the cost of shipping. He had zero luck. May your efforts fare more successful.
  12. Someone called Absolution on the last page. And Agaetis Byrjun was a consideration for me, too, but I think I'll be limiting each of my entries to one artist exclusively.
  13. Haha, when you phrase it like that... I will say that it sounds a little goofy. But I totally get where you're coming from. And no offense to your mom, but I would never spit toothpaste (or anything) in the vicinity of someone else. At least not intentionally. That just doesn't compute with me. I'll actually go out of my way to wait and do something other than occupy the bathroom with someone else. They don't interject when someone's on the can... do they? (Just had to ask.) I certainly don't get it. It must be a dad thing. There have been times in the past where I've tried to imply that everything will make sense if we'd all keep quiet... but that's only led to him getting butt-hurt, leaving the room, and then taking it personally for days after. Kind of makes me wonder how I've made it to the age of 25 without being completely dysfunctional. #parentprobz
  14. I could see that being frustrating, for sure. My family has always had a "one person per bathroom" rule that's been enforced as long as I can remember. The only exception to this is if one bathroom is tied up, and the other is being occupied by someone who's showering. But even then... it's a little weird. I don't know. I can't imagine what it'd be like to group-hoard a single bathroom. I'm just used to the convenience of my own space in the bathroom, I guess. The only bathrooms I share are the type with stalls in them. If we're sharing pet peeves - especially those that pertain to family - I've got to say that watching TV (or even movies) with my dad is the worst. Fortunately this happens very rarely. If we're not watching a comedy or something incredibly easy to follow, I'm shit out of luck. He's insistent on calling out plot points as they unfold, or trying to predict them before they happen. He loves to verbally critique the characters, as if his smug comments will make them reconsider their actions. ("Come on! What are you doing? Why didn't you take that gun with you?") He also thinks aloud, i.e. "Ooohhh, I bet... you know what? I bet this is a flashback" or "This has got to be a dream. Got to be." I know that complaining about this sounds rather petty, and it's not that the interjections are annoying, but he somehow manages to insert them over really important dialogue, or an intense moment. Never when there's a transition or a slow pace. And that, naturally, leads to questions of "what'd he just say?", and so on, so forth. As a disclaimer, my dad isn't senile in the slightest. And I don't have this problem with any of my other friends or relatives. If we're all getting together for a "fun" movie, I couldn't care less. But anything intense or worth paying attention to is just impossible to share with him.
  15. I'd give it more than 24 hours. Quite a few members won't even check the forums until they're punched in or on the clock.

I'm in the same boat, once Don gets squared away. Best of luck to you.
  17. Really liking the looks of this one. I hope to snag a gold later this week. Hopefully that means POs for the new NL are around the corner.
  18. I like this. If your album "wins", you and the other voters all contribute some context, if you so choose. I don't think a dozen+ reviews are necessarily in order, but perhaps a brief explanation of why you chose the record, how you stumbled across it, what sort of impact it's had on you, favorite tracks if any, etc. I'd be really interested in reading those sorts of things from other members.
  19. *All or most all of their discography. Check my second post where I thoroughly covered this. Overhyped does not necessarily equate to "bad". Thrice is a solid band, but I don't think they deserve to be on the utmost pedestal that a lot of folks seem to put them on.
  20. Thrice is pretty up there, too, as far as hype goes. I still enjoy their discography, and rank their songwriting and musicianship higher than a lot of bands that people get stoked on here at VC. But. Yeah.
