  1. To clarify on my post; I'm not implying that said "VC bands" are bad. I just think the majority of them are incredibly overhyped by users who consistently listen to three genres or less. I do own or have owned records from some of these artists, and am able to enjoy some of them. But the hype runs strong with; Title Fight Joyce Manor Circa Survive La Dispute Balance & Composure Brand New City & Colour Blink-182 Etc.
  2. Hmm. Was a translucent (deep) blue variant part of the first press, then? I'm speaking of the Rattle 12".
  3. Do you know how many copies of the 2nd press / translucent blue were pressed, Scott?
  4. Another stellar choice, frog. And Sean picked my favorite Tool record. The A album is such a tough choice. [edit] And right as I post that, Olsvik follows it up with my initial A pick. Few sounds compare to the beauty of Refinement. I'm actually kind of waffling between it and Alligator at the moment. Such an important record in the ambient genre.
  5. Same deal. I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that this would be properly pressed "somewhere down the road". They know they can press this and ask mbv prices for it, and it'd sell out much sooner than later. I'm not sure what they're waiting for.
  6. So the bootleg sounds as good as the original which sounds as good as the CD? Is there something I'm missing here?
  7. +1 for Gold Panda. That's an album that I've been putting off for ages now. Really need to buckle down and pick it up before it becomes too difficult to find.
  8. I know that the stance on Thrice is really love-or-hate here at VC, but I will say that TAITA is the first "modern" album I purchased and appreciated from start to finish. It was a stepping stone to everything I listen to today, and helped me realize that bands worth following can write more than just a handful of singles per record. I don't find myself listening to them nearly as much these days, but that's an excellent pick no less.
  9. That's exceptionally generous of you, good sir. I do appreciate that offer. But I actually have a kind soul selling me a copy here at VC. (Which reminds me, I need to update the OP to avoid confusion.) Just skimmed your Want List for kicks; very solid requests. That Come On Die Young box should be dropping in a few months, theoretically. Get stoked.
  10. Is that the 21st, too? I did not hesitate to pre-order the loser edition from Sub Pop, way back when. I'm actually referring to the new Silver Mt. Zion. Being that it's only 2.5 weeks out - and that the odds are hardly in my favor - I'm just going to roll with it. Official entry; Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything A SILVER MT. ZION And as always, a big thank you to Sec for continuing to give back to the community time and time again.
  11. How about pre-orders on records via Amazon? Particularly one that's slated for a January 21st release...
  12. Nice. $25 or so is quite the steal for that splatter. That mislabel definitely worked out in your favor. And I'm right there with you on trying to get variants that match the jacket or gatefold design. It all sounds the same, sure, but there's just something about variants that match. It's the same exact reason I'll be spending both time and an extra bit of money to track down a red or splatter copy of WWACTN, instead of just opting for readily available copies of the gold repress, for cheaper. I strongly urge you to go back and revisit some other records of theirs. I completely agree that there's something about both RC and Isis that are untouchable. And like you, I sort of treated Pelican like "Isis, Light" or "Jr. Russian Circles" for quite a while, not really giving them much priority. If you have the time, definitely try to [re]visit City of Echoes and What We All Come to Need. Both are stellar and provide much more than initially meets the ears. Segments of their new album are so damn good, but as a whole it's not ranking up their with the trifecta that is FIOT, COE, and WWACTN. At least in my books.
  13. A few of my legit white whales are currently; Gifts From Enola: From Fathoms // green-blue swirl / 100. Bersarin Quartett: Bersarin Quartett // clear, red haze / 100. The Pirate Ship Quintet: Rope For No-Hopers // opaque gold / 150. Ausserwelt: Year of No Light // clear / 100.
  14. Thanks. I think it's a beautiful variant that really compliments the album art... but I'll always be a sucker for translucent wax. That being said, I think both RSD variants are magnificent. And if my offer wasn't strong enough on the haze that I purchased, I would have grabbed the other RSD variant on Discogs for $29 or so. That's an amazing accidental purchase, I must say. When you say it was listed as a clear, do you refer to Amoeba's sticker or the actual packaging? And if you can recall the price, may I ask how much they were asking for it? Mere curiosity. And having seen photos of that clear-blue FIOT splatter, I will also agree that it is quite an alluring colorway.
  15. Great lists, Juan and Drew. I really dug the diversity in both, and the write ups also seemed spot on. Infralateral Ark seems to disagree, though, and doesn't approve of a friendly compliment. Cool.
  16. I dig the album well enough, but I get some serious Appleseed Cast vibes from it. It's a sound that I love, but Appleseed do it much better. Will say that Seasonal is one of my top 10 tracks of the year, though.
  17. Huh. Well. At the end of the day, I suppose it just boils down to you and I having a truly different sense of humor.
