jeromium reacted to unknown pleasures in Official Newbury Comics Reissue Thread
I was just thinking to myself the other day that a pink marble copy of The Sound of Music soundtrack is just what I’m lacking in my vinyl collection...

I checked earlier today and all their variants showed sold out. I'm also getting the 403 error now.

everyone's favorite band the casket lotter.
my favorite typo since their instagram post about the new American Pleasure Club song "New Years Day" (the song is New Year's Eve).

a majority of the KGATLW fanbase weren’t into vinyl prior to discovering the band which is why we see the insanely obsessive nature of the kids fueling the endless sold out variants and represses.
their subreddit is full of “just discovered this band so I bought every variant I could” posts, and it’s a total circle jerk.
Its hard to think what their lives were like before this band. they are good no doubt but definitely not the second coming of Christ/cure for cancer as their fans and resale amounts reflect.

I didn't understand that comment either, lol. Personally, you've been good for my wallet! The Polygondwanaland thread caused me to look into the abyss and made me think that maybe I should focus a little less on collecting variants, hahah. 2018: the year of black vinyl? Maybe.

Amen to that, it's almost like a parody of the whole vinyl collecting obsession.

When lack of music taste is combined with the urge to collect something familiar you get a soundtrack buyer. Videogame soundtracks are worse cuz you need to buy the soundtrack to any game you remotely liked no matter the price.

It’s bad news for the vinyl bubble when even Newbury Comics can’t price their vinyl high enough to prevent flipper profit.

Actually, Castle Face calls it a 12" single which implies something different than simply a single.

I see it more as a kind of Andy Kaufman-esque parody of the whole limited edition vinyl collecting phenomenon. No doubt this was intentional.

Another one up through the Vinyl Record Raffle Community, the guy pressing this one raffles a lot of rare and uncommon Gizzard stuff and is a big fan, I presume he would be making use the quality is high on this. Sounds interesting

Sorry that I get to respond to this farce just now.
i had a busy day but this has been on my mind the whole time.
You're doing a charity project for an institution called RAINN but would be allowing something like "suck a duck, butch" to be engraved on the vinyl.
Wow, like really? Do you even understand what you'd be doing there? Putting it right in the face of RAINN. Here's your money and a real copy for you with a special message. Enjoy.
If this should turn out true then I'll be definitely cancelling my purchase - and I hope a lot of other people would feel offended, too.
Don't get me wrong - I definitely don't want to spoil any fun of this project. But this would just be more than offensive - not only regarding RAINN.
Just think about it for a moment and please let me know asap.

There's pretty much every format you can think of for this including the lathe cut on old laser discs, CD's, cassettes and every colour of vinyl imaginable but I haven't seen any open reel copies so I've decided to do my own limited to 1 copy and delivered it to my only customer (me) yesterday. I'm going to drag out my Akai 8 track recorder next and do a copy on that just for the fun of it. Gotta find a nice colour laser printer now for the artwork.

I think Gotta Groove is just protecting themselves. I’m sure they will press these records, I think they just need direct approval from the band and not just hearsay from the Internet.

If it’s even remotely possible to F something up, some American will find a way to do it.

Yeah it's not like one dude pressed 200 and is selling them for $100+ each or something.
People are investing their money and selling these at a normal retail price. That's not flipping.

jeromium reacted to Bladewillisisdead in PO Literally Anywhere - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Polygondwanaland
The band said "We want you to do this"
Pressing an album requires thousands of dollars. Not $20 so you can turn around and sell it for 2-10x that so...uh...not really seeing a point here.

Updating the list. There was an order at some point, but there's just too many.
EDIT: Full list on page 15. OP has been updated.

Crazy how many labels have jumped on this already. Interesting to see all the variants (colors, as is typically the variant), but even more so how the different labels are going to handle artwork and packaging. The cover is the cover, but they're including a bunch of files for designing the back, insides, inner sleeves, A/B labels, etc. so there's a TON of possibilities for these to come out wildly different from one another, aside from vinyl color.
Holding out on this, personally. Not sure why. In a way I'd like to know more about packaging and make a selection based on that, but with how limited all of these are going to be and how rabid the fanbase is, waiting isn't going to work in my favor.
