  1. So it does exists, now I need to find that Green Day/Husker Du one.
  2. the thing with her though is if you look at the completely listings she is actually selling some of those records for at or near her asking prices. Some, but definitely not this record or any other record that is so grossly overpriced, I indeed see some record that fetched up to 200 dollars, but that are often very rare records and that price can be justified for some persons. Everyone in their right mind and with a bit of knowledge knows what records a priced (maybe a tad expensive but) according to the real market value and what records are priced way off.
  3. To be honest anyone can take, any random record and put it on eBay with a crazy buy it now price. It's a good record, but it will never sell for 780 dollars, unless it someone insanely stupid and wealthy. I see tons of these kinds of auctions and it annoys the shit out of me. Even more when people start to use it as a reference for their selling price. I love to heckle with people trying to buy rare old punk records on the Dutch version of Craiglist, knowing they will sell it the next day on eBay for triple or quadruple princes. I love it when they send a list with low ball prices and I send them an mail back with: "I looked on ebay and the going prices are..." and 9 out of 10 times, don't wont bother to mail you back.
  4. I am surprised about the new high end model, not much extra's but the standard model prices dropped a lot, only 7k for the cheapest one. two more 50% price cuts and I am in.
  5. Is it digital? I think not. Q: Does the LT digitize the audio signal from the record? A: There is no digitization. The LT maintains a constant analog audio signal. I understand the confusion, but it's analog. I think it is based on the fact that a laser beam reads the pits on a cd, and a laser beam is reading the irregularities in the sides of the lp groove. Keep in mind the laser is not pulsed, it is on continuously. The etched pits in the metal layer of a cd represent the physical digital representation of the digital sampling of the music. The continuously "on" laser reads the continuously varying irregularities in the lp groove, which represent the continuously varying waveforms of the music. So it's still analog, even though it's being read by a laser. There may be digital systems for tracking and control of the system, but the signal path is still analog.
  6. I just noticed they released a new model, looks nice and probably less hurtful than a kick in the nuts from Vard.
  7. If anyone wants to build one at home: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3992593.pdf
  8. The idea has been around since 1977, first working copy was made in the mid 80's. But high expenses in R&D made the initial company go bankrupt in 1989 and some other company bought the rights and slowly developed this current Laser Turntable, which is for sale since 1997. Ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 dollars, depending on the discount you are getting from your salesperson. I am surprised, no other company tried to manufacture their own for a more reasonable price, since the patents expired a few years ago. But maybe with the current rise of record sales and fast amount of audiophile pressings being made and sold, some company will start developing one that can deal with the different formats, speeds and color vinyl, because that version of ELP Japan is impressive but far from user friendly.
  9. Funny to see the normal Barfight 12" sell for more than the test press.
  10. For S/T probably white, since the pre-order package with shirt and poster (another something I hate, just want the vinyl) shows it.
  11. I am so happy I don't collect H2O, the amount of new releases and colors is borderline insane.
  12. I don't like the New York 7" as much as I do the California 7". Hopefully the DC one will be classic.
  13. General rule for imported goods in Europe is 1 euro = 1 dollar. Not matter if it is vinyl, computers or whatever luxury good it is. (it works close enough 90% of the time) So lets say an LP is 13 dollars in the USA, it would 13 euros here which actually is 17.93 dollars. It is not too bad, but if labels start asking 20 dollars for a single LP, imported here it would be around 27.59 dollars aka way to much. Also I found this inflation calculator (http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi): 3.50 dollars in 1983 would be 7.56 dollars in 2010. 9 dollars in 1998 would be 11.98 dollars in 2010. 11 dollars in 2010 would be 5.09 dollars in 1983 and 8.27 dollars in 1998. 15 dollars in 2010 would be 6.94 dollars in 1983 and 11.27 dollars in 1998. 20 dollars in 2010 would be 9.26 dollars in 1983 and 15.03 dollars in 1998. Conclusion Dischord records rules and Hydreahead not so much. Majorlabels overcharge again just like they did with cd's.
  14. I listened to the 7" yesterday and I could only get into the Circle Jerks song.
  15. except for test presses, there's only two releases that I know of that I'm missing: H2O/CHH split on red vinyl H2O 94-95 demo on clear I'll take a picture this weekend when i get home from vacation (hawaii!!) Still looking forward to this. Seems like blue has sold out, is that the most limited color?
  16. Yup, we actually have the LP's for it and PK in the office, just sorting out the jackets for them, they'll be up within the month after AN... I need to start saving up for these. PK will be 3rd mix?
  17. They rate more accurately than on ebay. Similar experience unless the persons only sells hip hop records often the sleeves are way more beaten than rated. Dont know if it is common, but it happened three times when I bought from sellers who sell mostly hip hop records. If someone contacts you about an item on your wantlist, it depends on the price and quality if it a curteous or pushy. But often it is seems more pushy to me, especially when they offer a common record which you can pick up for 10 to 15 bucks and they say it is ultra rare and they want "just" 75 bucks for it. Like they are given me an awesome deal.
  18. Congratulations with purchasing four of the best records of all time.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190569817373?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Dunno if it is an awesome deal but with an average price ten times higher on Discogs, I think I have a solid deal.
  20. Loving that Cold World sleeve, it looks amazing.
  21. I would add Australia, Holland/Netherlands and France too, they have/had some of the best pressing plants in the world. Eastern Europe/Southern Europe can be a hit or miss. Latin America/rest of Asia more miss than hit. Africa almost always a miss. I once met up with someone who had 55 copies of London Calling pressed in at least 38 different countries. Best/Weirdest collection I have ever seen.
  22. There is actually a switch hidden underneath a sticker on the side of record player which makes the record player more or less region free. Works fine but sometimes playing 7"s on 45rpm might be cause some trouble. Other formats or 7" on 33rpm shouldn't be a problem.
