oojavaguru got a reaction from itsgoodtobefree in Black Friday Record Store Day 2014
Well enjoy this while it lasts, because it is going to be harder and harder to break news of releases like we've been used to.  I am not talking about releases announced through Rolling Stone or another website, or by a band directly either.  I am talking about having 75% of the confirmed releases weeks before the official list comes out, like we've been able to do previously

Apparently the folks behind RSD got their panties in a wad (again) and have flat out been threatening stores who publish or leak release info.  This hasn't been new, as this threat has been written in the solicitations for years, except now they seem to be acting upon it.

Of course, this sucks if you are a store and want to ask them, hey there is a Lee Hazelwood box that my cost is $210 on, that means I will likely have to charge around $250+ for, who would want to pay that.

So thanks to the Gestapo tactics run by RSD, stores have put in the fear of God in them.  Believe me, every time Modern Vinyl posts a link to a store that has a listing, they are fucking that store over and basically acting like a public tattle tale, even though they aren't aware they are doing it.  Because I guarantee any store that has been publicly outed listing Black Friday titles is being talked to and asked to remove it as we speak.  In addition to potentially being banned for obtaining Black Friday releases.....other punishment could mean no future RSD involvement at all and even being banned from a label for an entire year (meaning for instance, you can't get any Warner products in your store).  Pretty shitty if you ask me, but what can you do.  You have to play the game if you want the products and a select few people set the rules for everyone.

    Gotta love free speech.

In regards to your "have a dialogue" angle, RSD is always like this. Stores always have to order blind, based on what they think their customers will buy. Even if a store had twenty customers say they would buy X, there's no guarantee they would get twenty copies. In a way, it also helps keep stores from running RSD preorders.
Don't get me wrong, RSD jumped the shark about three years ago, and Black Friday has always had terrible titles, but this really isn't that different than usual. RSD has stores over a barrel, and they'll do everything in their power to move all the thousands of shitty 180gm 70s represses and live albums that absolutely nobody is clamoring for.

2001: A Space Odyssey ( Lost Score by Alex North ) - November release

Mondo is releasing the lost score for 2001: A Space Odyssey on vinyl for the first time ever!
Stanley Kubrick’s seminal masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is known for its classical musical cues as much as for its vivid imagery. What few people know is that those cues that are forever associated with the film were a last minute revision on the part of Kubrick. An original score exists, composed for the film by the late composer Alex North (A Streetcar Named Desire, Spartacus) that was abandoned during post-production. North did not know his score was discarded until he saw the film’s premiere screening.

Working with North’s estate, Mondo will release “Music for 2001: A Space Odyssey” in a deluxe package, complete with liner notes by Jon Burlingame.
Jay Shaw designed the package that includes a glossy, Monolithic black aesthetic on the inside tip-on gatefold and a holographic foil interior gatefold, housed in a custom clear plastic slipcase.  The record will be pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and there will be randomly inserted "Beyone The Infinite" vinyl editions.

You know they'll be 19 responses at least of "I got it" or "Site's working" or "Checked Out...sweet" type comments when its working.

Then we'll see another 15 responses when shipping notices are sent and another 8-10 responses about the package arriving.  Ahhhh good ol VC.

EDIT:  Thanks to pop_art1 for the negative feedback!!   Appreciate your lack of humor.

I read somewhere that this is the Tom Petty album that Petty never put out and I couldn't agree more.  Listened to it or the first time today, then I listened to it four more times in a row.

I am digging this album. I have heard songs here and there for the last 2 years. But I am seriously digging all of his stuff. Reminds me of Cameron Mcgills music a little.

I think this was the first LP that I bought at a record store on release day. Seems like everything is always a pre-order or delayed. Love this album, though.

oojavaguru got a reaction from Duff in PO - Forrest Gump OST (SRC)
    Few comments:

    * So what was originally released in Europe as a 2LP set has now been pressed as a 3LP Triple Gatefold Set (with the same tracklisting)
    * Limited and hand-numbered first pressing out of how many copies?  Would the 2nd press not be on the "all-american" red, white and blue colors and just black?
    * To be frank with the all star lineup of artists (Elvis, Beach Boys, CCR, Dylan, Doors, etc.), I would have thought that the licensing would have been more and this would have been priced in the Anchorman 2 or Secret Life of Walter Mitty price range, so I am not too horrified by the price.....but I'm still not ordering it.

First post in this thread, but I just want to predict that each unique color will just be the three mixed together as stated above. Each will have a different mix and be unique but won't be three distinct rings.
