mdb reacted to jaedong in OUT NOW: La Dispute - Rooms of the House
I think the lyrics on this album are their best yet. Somewhere.... has its moments but also has some parts that make me cringe, and Wildlife is consistent overall but the concept as a whole is a little played out and gets old fast- at least for me- it's all a little heavy handed and the storytelling gets a little ridiculous even on the album's best songs. They are still really great albums and stand equally to Rooms of the House for other reasons, but this is the first La Dispute album where I've felt the lyrics are both beautiful and mature while still retaining a simplicity.

They have always been compared to Mewithoutyou and while I think it's a fair comparison it also isn't a particularly negative one, since that is a hard vocal style to pull off and not that many other bands do it. I feel they have lost the more Saetia-esque aspect of their sound that you get on the early stuff and on Wildlife a little bit. Aaron's Catch us for the Foxes lyrics are really beautiful and in a lot of ways that's what this reminds me most of, there is just a lot of energy on the tracks and they manage to have a lot of depth without being overplayed. This album doesn't rely on gimmicks or noodly riffs, no song has the immediate 'wow' factor that Wildlife or Somewhere.... does but I think this album is their most beautiful and artistically coherent, and for that reason I'm really happy with it, and think it could become my favorite La Dispute album in time if only because it is their first full length that I don't think has any glaring weaknesses.

I'm okay with that. Some music is made for dancing, some for shouting along to, some for a backdrop while you hang with your buds, and some for shutting the fuck up. His music is "shut the fuck up" music.

I take the description as that it is 2 different 20 minute songs that play over and over again during the art exhibit. It's not going to need to be played like that to enjoy it. So don't let that stop you from buying it. Over 100 sold in a few hours. Only 100 more to go. I think the rest are being sold at the exhibit.

Hey guys, long time 3eb fan here and im pretty knowledgeable on all the "unreleased" stuff and stuff that wasnt really widely available for a long time. These 'new' mixes are not all that new, just not really that well known about. For instance the version of Cant Get Away From You with the 'rap' at the beginning, ive probably had that .mp3 for maybe 4 or 5 years. I dont really remember where it originated from or how it got to us, but im pretty sure it came with a batch of other demos from the OOTV sessions such as 'Now I dont Know' and 'Away'.

Check this list ive compiled here, i havent updated it in years cause i kind of lost interest when Tony was kicked out, so these demos have been around for awhile: http://www.3eb.co.uk/showthread.php?6336-Third-Eye-Blind-Songlist

How they ended up on the vinyl, i have no idea.

ross, you have a great thing here. a ton of loyal followers who will eat shit right out of your hand. keep it classy? shut the fuck up. i read the horribly written press release. if this is really all about raising money for charity, your press release sure didn't make that clear. i mean you even have people here that said they don't really care for the music but they're buying it for charity? seriously? do these idiots know they can just donate their full $49 for charity and not get music they don't want in return?

How about Miley Cyrus? Are you a fan?
I think there's a trend, unfortunately, in the game, at the minute, of girls desperately trying to be provocative or desperately trying to – in inverted commas – "start the debate" about some old shit or other. Because, really, they're not very good. Do you know what I mean? We have it in England regularly, and you have it in the States. I feel bad for 'em. It's like, "Write a good song. Don't make a provocative video – write a good fucking song. That'll serve you better, I think." She was on TV recently, Miley Ray Cyrus, and it was just like, "What the fuck is all this about?" I don't know. It's a shame, because it puts all the other female artists back about fucking five years. Now, Adele and Emili Sande – that music, to me, is like music for fucking grannies, but at least it's got some kind of credibility.
It's just embarrassing. Be good. Don't be outrageous. Anybody can be outrageous! I could go to the Rolling Stone office and fucking shit on top of a boiled egg, right? And people would go, "Wow, fucking hell, that's outrageous!" But is it any good? No, because, essentially, it's just a shit on top of a boiled egg. That's all it is. If I was to go to your office and play you a song that I'd just written that was amazing, that would be better, wouldn't it?

You should send an email to Matt from Earth Analog Records (and Hum).  He used a Vinyl Flat with the leftover Hum vinyl he was/is selling.  This is what his site said about it:

    * I am opening each record and making sure it will play ok on a decent turntable. Any record which does not perform well gets flattened using a device I purchased called the Vinyl Flat. It’s safe for the record and, in all cases so far, it’s worked. (Thank you to the nice folks at Vinyl Flat for loaning me a second one of these to help speed up the process!)

Thankfully the pressings DO NOT sound like shit (at least not S/T, which is the only one I have). It actually sounds pretty incredible. However, these guys are definitely in over their heads. I foresee a lot of free records (Tatom, sergeantcruffy) as well as angry customers who don't get what they actually paid for. The whole thing is just a mess. I wouldn't be surprised if 3EB really regrets not sticking with Enjoy the Ride by the time the dust settles.

The tracking number on the box matches the second of the four confirmations I received. When I click on the link with the accurate tracking number, it still says "not found."

EDIT - MORE WEIRDNESS: I noticed the shipping label was taped over another shipping label. The return address on the bottom label is Third Eye Blind with a San Francisco address. The return address on the top label is 3EB Fulfillment with a San Diego address. Both labels were addressed to me. Also, the tracking number on the bottom label matches the number from the first email they sent me (which was never updated).

Well now I have a new "#1 most positive Jenkins encounter ever heard." Do you happen to be an attractive female? Seriously though, that's good to hear. The real question is WILL I REALLY GET TO SPIN "MOTORCYCLE DRIVE BY" IN 2013? What are the odds these actually ship before Christmas?

Joyful Noise flexi series: $7 per month (w/ shipping) for twelve flexis and everyone ate it up.
Polyvinyl 4-track series: $10 per month for twelve quality 7"s, a shirt, a box, a slipmat, and everyone complains it's too expensive.

Lesson: Charge a monthly fee instead of showing the total price up front. If they would have advertised it as $10 per month everyone would have been talking about how it's such a great deal.

Also, why hasn't anyone mentioned John Vanderslice as justification? He's the best!
