  1. I got this the other day and there's a few bubbles in cover, like the top layer wasn't glued properly, so I haven't opened it yet. I'm not sure if I should contact them to send it back. It's not like it was inexpensive. Anyway, it looks cool.
  2. What is the point being running the two sets of speakers?
  3. I got the Wipers 7", SDRE, and Goo Goo Dolls boxset. I didn't find the Germs 7".
  4. You have a good memory. That was an original Cronus. It had EL34's and not KT120's, amongst other changes.

  6. I hated this record when it came out. The fact it was on a major label, had a fucking monster truck for no reason on the cover, had slick production, and was much darker than I wanted ALL to be made me consider Goodbye Harry's "Food Stamp BBQ" (which came out around the same time) as the "unofficial ALL" release. As time went on, I've come to really enjoy this record. I still hate the fucking cover. The one time you want someone to change the cover on a reissue and they don't. I'll buy this one of these days.
  7. You could potentially be compensating for a weak channel in the amp or phono pre or maybe a room issue. If it sounds good, I'd probably just go with it.
  8. If, when it arrives, it sucks, I'll shit on it enough for the both of us.
  9. If I had a psychiatrist I'm sure they'd agree with you.
  10. My Sutherland had 60dB of gain and it always wanted more juice. Hopefully, you have at least a 100 ohm loading option.
  11. To make life more interesting, I decided to order one of these: http://www.musicalparadise.ca/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=75 I used to have MP-301 MKII, which was cool, but my speakers weren't efficient enough to get any low end out of it. I've been curious about Class D amps lately and this thing is dirt cheap. Musical Paradise has really nicely built, well constructed products (especially if you believe that the parts list aren't Chinese knockoffs). I'll be shocked if it's not great. It only has one set of RCA inputs, but if I end up liking it, I could pull out the useless (to me) DAC and add another set. This could be a poor man's Rogue Sphinx. I'll let you know.
  12. The biggest difference is going to be finding a phono preamp with the loading options and the gain to get you were you want to be with the 103R. It's lower output than the D103, which I've had, and I found it difficult. I ended up with the Rogue Triton. The Sutherland PH3D I had previously wasn't up to the task.
  13. I just don't impress me as much as I was hoping. The fact it uses preamp tubes I can swap all day drives me insane, because I spend more time messing with the tubes than listening to music. That's one of the reasons I bought the ARC VSi55. There are almost no choices when it comes to 6N1P. I've settled on NOS Mullard ECC83's. The JJ's 12AU7's sound better than the NOS I've tried. The NOS I tried were too thick sounding, making it feel slow and killed the dynamics.
  14. The Phonomenia II has a lot of loading options, so you should be able to fine tune the sound.
  15. You can find the non + version of the Phonomena II used for like $400, which is pretty good.
  16. Any decent separate phono preamp is going to be better than what's built in to any integrated in your price range. Start with getting good phono preamp. The fact you have those Focals, I assume you're not in the US?
  17. This guy (or gal) "reviewed" three record destroying garbage turntables. I feel bad for people who are really looking for answers on picking a turntable and stumble upon some bullshit site like this. They're going to be misled into wasting their money, time, and efforts only to give up on the hobby all together.
  18. I recently bought a Rogue Cronus Magnum II after seemingly ill considered foray into solid state. I'm not 100% sold on the Cronus.
  19. I think you're right. Those turntables won't be a huge upgrade from what you currently have. Depending on your system, you're probably better off putting the money into an phono preamp upgrade.
  20. I have 180g vinyl that sounds bad and I have flexi discs that sound great. I also have some 180g that have a bowl to them, but my turntable has a built in clamp, so I'm not overly concerned with that. Michael Fremer once wondered if whatever sonic differences that might be attributed to slight change in VTA, and I think that's right.
