I wish more people would turn into pussies and quit buying records.  Less competition during pre-orders.

I'm not one to typically download albums before I get the vinyl but I'm moving and had to pack up pretty much all my records so I bit the bullet.  Holy shit, this album is killer.  Can't wait to see them on tour with High on Fire and Kvelertak.  Might as well go ahead and schedule a chiropractor appointment for the day after.

I'd go with SOM, Joint Custody, and Red Onion.  Red Onion is only open until 7 and I believe Joint Custody is only open until 8.  SOM is open till 9ish.

Sweet! Thanks for picking this up guys. These dudes are great friends of mine and will be dropping a new album soon. Chilled with Adam at a few shows recently and he said the new album is going to be siiiiiiick. Be prepared.

Sweet, another Kanye thread.  It's like getting a Christmas present that you don't want and can't take back.

Crooked Beat blows IMO. I feel like the crap they have is always the same junk so I avoid it. Red Onion has been stepping up their game lately and getting good stuff. One can't forget Joint Custody and SOM, both great shops as well. Smash is an institution and should be visited regardless if you find anything.
The Arbutus show is good but it's a hike and if you go, go early.
Both CD Cellars (Falls Chuch and Clarendon) are good, though I prefer one over the other.
There are also some pretty good shops in Silver Spring.
Now that you know I must kill you.

I'm sitting around after a sweet Friday post gym session spinning some records and downing some brews so I'll entertain this thread.

I slowly got into vinyl around 99 after I had graduated high school.  A good friend of mine had a turntable and I'd go over and he'd always play records and I thought it was cool so I started going to record stores with him and I was hooked.  I had a vague interest before that and bought a few albums at metal fests when I was 16 or 17 but didn't really have a table to play them on at that point until I discovered my parents old Technics from the 70's.  I'll never forget buying my first record.  It was Dimmu Borgir - Stomblast on purple wax.  Of course I still have it.  You'd have to yank that shit out of my cold dead hands before I ever let it go.

Over the years I've amassed quite a few records, 2,500+ and growing.  Bought and sold collections, traded up and gotten rid of stuff that I had lost interest in.  I love vinyl for so many reasons.  People can scream and yell that other versions sound better digitally at 8,000,000 MB, FLAC, or some shit.  I don't know, obviously.  Computers are way beyond me and I could care less.  To me, nothing sounds better than setting a needle down on a record spinning at 33 or 45 rpm and letting the good times roll.  It forces you to listen to the entire album in the track listing that the artist intended.  Personally I don't think anything else sounds close to the experience you get listening to a record.  Plus you get full size artwork, etc.  I honestly feel sorry for people who don't listen to records and don't understand it, but that just leaves more records for me!  Music is a massive part of my life so to me it's the best way, the most personal way.  If only there was a way to install a record player in my car without it skipping I'd be set.  One of these days......one of these days.

On a closing note, there is no better high than leafing through records and having that oh shit moment when you find something that you don't have, haven't thought about in forever, but at that moment it's sitting in front of your eyes and it's yours.

All the options.  $45.99 for a 2LP "deluxe" is fucking insane.  Relapse can lick a dogs dick with those prices.

You'll feel way differently once you stop buying records with your parents money and start using your own.  One day junior, one day.  Also junior, you should work for the federal government or be a cop when you grow up since you're so worried about flippers and policing what people do with the records that they buy.  Last time I checked we lived in a capitalist society.

Agreed. I wish they would just plain stop producing exclusives. Give them to a company that can do the music justice and doesn't rely on stealing product line ideas from reputable artists.

Then they have the nerve to block vinyl from being part of the promotions and claim it's "to protect the true fans." Just come out and say "we were losing too much money on them." and I'll have a bit more respect. Don't just blow smoke up my ass.

Half of my anger comes from the fact that the people shipping the items half the time don't seem to know enough about vinyl to ship them properly. The customer service rep when I filed a complaint way back for the Hot Cash issues proved to me with her use of the word "vinyl s" (with an s) that she understands very little of the product as well. The company can't even purchase proper displays for the in-store albums and even if they did. one of the mindless drone entry level employees would just try to cram 50 of them into one rack, damaging and bending them all to shit.

Yeah, they do it for the "true fan" alright...

    End rant.
