  1. Btw - Duolingo on your phone will give you an assist on some basics. I can speak Spanish like a four year old - some sentences and comprehension.  It helps me increase vocabulary and is easy to use.  My Mexican in-laws say I speak well but I know they are being kind and complimentary since no one else in my family can say a single word or even tries.

  2. This one is for the old-school VC-ers (hey, by the way!):

Those that might recall Jake from the Paramedic and the joy he brought many might have been intrigued to see him quoted in the NY Times in support of his White Nationalist pal who used to be their drummer. Ah, the good old days... Those that are curious can check the old Hall of Fame thread or search Paramedic. That band was awful, wore shirts supporting violence towards women and were just creepy mall-metal lameness but this whole article reframes their "legacy" even further.

  3. The Balvenie is really sweet from the Sherry. It was a nice bottle but I doubt I'd spend that money on it again. I have a nice stash of stuff right now and am not looking to buy anything unless it really catches my eye as hard to come by. I need another bottle of Pikesville Rye for an everyday sipper but otherwise I'm pretty set for months. I am having a 10th Anniversary party in May so will probably make that my next indulgence point.

I had an opportunity to get a bottle of A'bunadh Batch 58 recently and passed - I regret it.

There's a bar down the street from my house with 12, 15, and 20 year Pappy.

My brother brought a 20 year Pappy from his collection to our younger brothers wedding last year. I felt like it was forbidden fruit but nothing to remember as being particularly special. It's like a movie that has been over-hyped for months: there was no way for it to live up when I finally indulged.

I'm having my final pour of the 15-year Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask my brothers and I shared over dinner a month back. We've been having a good time the past few years treating each other.

  5. I haven't been around in a while but I got a few texts from folks here. I loved her....and the extended Daptone family. As I switch flights in tears I'll share my quick thoughts and implore you all to buy a record - Sharon always wanted to sell a million! The foundations listed are worthy places too - Lustgarten, the James brown foundation (she loved the kids at JAMP):

We get to tell stories and each holds a special place but some people change our lives. That's Sharon Jones. That's her family, The Dap-Kings, Lever & Beam, Daptone and the entire extended family that surrounded Sharon.

Sharon redefined the meaning of grace and dignity for me. She literally beat cancer from her body over and over again. Then when this bullshit disease somehow got the upper hand she toured and recorded new music and beat cancer again by not allowing it to define her. She is the best and always will be.

The night before Sharon had her microabrasion I went up to her hotel with Tony to interview her. I thought for sure she was going to be depressed about her renewed challenge. Halfway through the interview I stopped and said "Sharon, you aren't depressed at all, and I thought you'd have this huge cloud over your head. What gives?" She told us "You can live your life and accept the cancer as part of it or you can let it rule your life." It was the simplest sentiment and moment but it made me smile and understand her on a whole new level. No challenge I've faced since felt quite so big.

Sharon was a woman of God. I actually enjoyed talking about her unwavering faith. Not long ago she posted to a friends wall "God got you". I am positive that tonight Sharon, God got you.

You got this far - this photo is from Jacob. The first time Sharon watched Miss Sharon Jones. Nothing could make me happier than seeing her enjoy that film - it was a gift.

  6. I have less of a concern about concession than his propagating the myth of voter fraud. I guess he looks to his right at Mr. Bannon who is a registered Florida voter with an empty house in a state he hasn't lived in for years and realizes that perhaps at least one instance exists.

Personally, I'm stoked at all the scrambling from the Trump-ites to find their excuses. This has been a very very very well earned rebuke and if the cockroaches don't like the sun, I'm thrilled to see them scurry back under their rocks after a final flurry of flailing in the main stream.

Meanwhile, a man who made Billions in this "unfair system" will have the final laugh at the expense of his followers - the system is fine for him and his ilk and will continue to be.
