Ordered the pink based on this track. I'm one of the folks who thought the LP2 vocals were sitting on top of the mix like oil on water but this single sounds great to me. Listened to that record maybe 3 times after it came out then never picked it up again. LP1 came out when I was in college so it's not just a case of Millennials Are Killing the Emo Revival Industry... just never really absorbed LP2 I guess.

Decided to take a picture since all of my copies have shown up. Anyone else notice that the European copies have a matte black cover while the US copies are shiny?

While I was at it, I took a copy of my updated Descendents collection. Only a few things missing.

Yup, it was me. I designed this shirt in 2005. I just found the art file and decided to put it up on TeePublic.

It was the first t-shirt I designed to sell on our own. I'd been selling seven inches at a show, and made a sign that turned into a shirt. That year, we sold it at Comic Conventions, and during San Diego Comic-Con, a buyer from Hot Topic approached us. I was actually working at a Hot Topic store in our local mall, so I thought that was funny.

He wanted to test it out in certain markets, maybe order 100, or even 700 tops. After SDCC, he got in contact and upped his order to 7000. This was December 2005. Straight up, they ordered way too many way. In 2005, vinyl was still very niche, and they sold it at my store a bit. Nowhere near what vinyl is doing now. I'm amazed anyone could still find it at Hot Topic in 2007, mostly because they marked that shit down after it shipped. We still sold it for a few years until I stopped screen printing.

That was our first and last Hot Topic order. The buyer who ordered it left shortly after the sale. But it started us on a crazy, decade long bout of self-employment and weird projects. It's weird how a dumb shirt idea became a way to pave our own path.

I'm loving this record. "Rings" is his best track in ages in my opinion. Solid album- great beats and the same amazing rhymes as you've come to expect. I like it better than Skelethon, but I didn't get as hard into that one as I did Labor Days.

Was searching for something entirely different that led me to this thread and just have to say that this performance of this song rules. Wish I could see Bob at your place this weekend but I'll be in Rockford for Easter. Will keep up on this thread in the future though!

You guys haven't learned yet. It is zero surprise that they'd pour time and effort into the box that the records ship in. I imagine they got samples of 10-15 different mailers from a packaging company and picked an expensive one that looks really cool and professional. I also bet that the print quality of the #vibe stickers are up there.
Literally everything EXCEPT the records themselves has been meticulously put together with a ton of thought. That's why it's frustrating. Because it's a symptom of a much larger problem of companies spending money and effort to build the illusion of a product, and it's accompanying lifestyle and brand, rather than delivering an actual solid product- and the fact that some people are actually OK with crap if the surrounding illusion is cool, trendy, and cute.

"The beauty of VNYL is that tomorrow we can change our service to a vintage toaster club, TSTR. Or start shipping old Dell printers from the 90s, PRNTR. Or live birds, BRDS. And our brand quality would never change. We had a video editor make some content for us, a short 3D Vimeo-hosted film about vinyl, and we got the bassist from Surfer Blood to do an interview for our Medium site- a great piece of content. And tomorrow we debut our newest and best piece of content: a 15 minute short film about a group of twenty-something actors in Venice exploring the neighborhood, finding the #vibes that exist in their own backyard, and eventually ending up at an abandoned dance hall by the shore (the one from the movie the Wrestler) where they encounter a small table with a turntable on it. It's called WEVNYL and it's directed by Harmony Korrin's roommate in college."

Debating if I need to upgrade the "Happily Deranged" cassingle I got from a box of cereal when I was in middle school. Pretty much a nostalgia purchase but damn... that's some heavy nostalgia.

I came late to TEN and loved the last record, despite glaring problems with the mix and truly awful lyrics.

I'm curious to hear this new record because I tried really hard to get into the earlier albums after loving In Currents and none of it stuck at all for me. I know I'm in the minority there and have accepted it as a failing of my taste rather than the quality of those records. I'm like those people who think Good Mourning and Bleed American are better records than those that came before them so what I'm saying is I'm the worst.

    advance/promo copies had this order:
Keep it Together End of the Line Bottomless Sea All Heads Down The Ebb and Flow My Little Monkey Wrench Under Everything Ink and Lead Poison This Early Grave Giver There are Already Roses
Personally, I think it opens and flows better with that order.  Not sure why it was changed before official release

Why can't this be a live box set with individual sets from Dr. Dog, Sufjan Stevens, John Vanderslice, Kind of Like Spitting and the 1975 World Series Game 4 audio? The National dropped the ball on this one.

I did the artwork for this. Getting one of these initial pressings with the die cuts will be worth it, although I may be a little biased. All subsequent pressings will just be standard jackets with printed inner sleeves.

Totally agree. But those 3-4 songs are worth it. "Passionate" and "This Lemonade Is Terrible" are two of my favorite songs of all time.

Gave it my first listen last night. "Pistol" is, by all accounts and measures, fucking intolerable. Almost as intolerable as a Ween song. (I went for the easy joke- I don't actually dislike Ween that much).

I'm really digging most the rest of the record though. Some tracks I actually thought, "This is some of the best Modest Mouse I've ever heard." And I never said that about anything on the last album. We'll see how often it makes the rotation though... guessing about as much as the last one which is pretty much never. Or it could be my summer record the way Good News was 10 years ago even though a bunch of douchebags ruined it by liking it or whatever.

I want Ross to release a 7" that comes with a kids small Doig shirt that transforms me back into a 7 year old when worn. I want to run in the yard and drink Capri Suns and throw my Last Action Hero red convertible off the porch ledge and send Last Action Hero Arnold and T2 Arnold flying into the bushes. I want my mother to love me again.
