i dig that just about every NJ record has something distinct about it. i started listening in the bless the martyr days and wore the hell out of my copy of o'god when that came out - so there's a lot of history there for me stacked up to compare polar similar to. like i said though, i dig the record and overall i think its one of the better releases of the year (id prob put it in my top 10 were i to make such a list). so, i suppose its much less a statement about whether this record is good as it is how killer/important those early albums were to me.

its definitely better than the self titled album, and like i said, i think as a complete album its better than happiness is. i like that album but i liked the moodier tracks (flicker fade, it takes more, better homes and gardens, etc.) than i did the poppier stuff. this album is a lot more in that direction.

thats fair - and if past members had some kind of input on the album, i think thats pretty cool. i can only assume thats what has helped the band maintain somewhat of a consistent but clearly evolving sound. id rather them do that than try and rewrite o'god or redeemer. still, i think this band was on another level when scottie henry and chris day were involved on a full-time basis.

i think this album is kind of a grower. my first listen i wasnt too into it.

i like this album and im looking forward to getting the vinyl but itll probably end up ranking towards the bottom of NJ albums for me. i dont think this band has ever released a bad record though - even with all the lineup changes.

im not sure if any individual song on this record is better than flicker, fade or better homes and gardens but album vs. album id say this is a step up over happiness is.

Props to jeremy for writing this record. Hes making some bold moves between the lyrical content and his matt berninger-styled vocals. So, I hope he gets out of this record whatever hes seeking. Theres definitely nothing feigned here. As others have pointed out though, i dont know how often ill listen to this all the way through. Musically, its really good and im a much bigger fan of the production here than ISB ("rapture" sticks out as THE highlight of the album) - but i found it somewhat draining to go through front-to-back on a second listen.

Fair enough. Its still an entire pressing that HT chooses to buy at wholesale and resell. Id venture to guess this thing doesnt exist at all if they dont ask for it. So, they could probably choose to push them for a higher quality pressing if they really wanted/cared to (not that i expect them to given the nature of their business - and like i said, i got exactly what i expected from them). Theyre putting their name on it and calling it an exclusive item though so it is a representation of their stores. If this was available in every record store across the country and online - then sure, its squarely on the record label. Unfortunately though, HT exclusive releases are notorious for various blunders that you pretty much dont see anywhere else (pixelated thrice art, finch typos literally everywhere/pixelated art, etc.). Anyway, they got the aesthetic down on a lot of the stuff they do so ill give them that.

got my copy. records looks awesome. i dont have any other pressings to compare it by but to me it could sound better - especially the last tracks on each side. ive definitely heard much worse sounding records from start to finish though. this is about what id expect from a HT exclusive.

Had no idea he had filmed specials the two evenings before 9/11. I really love a great deal of georges material from the 80s/early 90s. He made you think and laugh. In his later years though, sans a few bits - he really just went on these fairly uncomfortable rants that never quite had the same comedic touch in my opinion. Still, his other stuff is still pretty much untouchable.

i think its safe to say this album is going to be a significant improvement over damage. not that i didnt like that record - this is just more in the direction of what id want to hear from them.

Theyre just looking to make a quick flip which is dumb after fees. Doubt they paid for expedited shipping. Theyll just ship it whenever they get it.

Not saying youre wrong but is that their official policy? I assume seem splits are a risk when ordering online. If every distro replaced LPs for seem splits, well... theyd be replacing a whole bunch of records.

Im guessing thats the first song that was released which was really bad. They released a second song and i surprisingly didnt hate it musically. Kind of sounded like something they would have wrote for issues or untouchables. Still terrible vocals and lyrics though.

got all my records yesterday. even though theyre singles / eps - i think they all have pretty nice packaging so that kind of makes up for it (die cuts, embossing, etchings, etc.).
