I don't see any problem swapping discs to build what you want as long as the buyer of whatever you are getting rid of knows what they are getting into. I've often thought about doing the same thing for somewhat opposite reasons (wanting black vinyl discs in my boxset, instead of whatever color variant they originally came with).

fucking hell, the shipping is as much as the record. I was going to order this, but I can't pull the trigger on a $30 2-song 10"

really bummed that black was so limited and I missed out on it.

They should make another record instead of having more copies of this one pressed.

Funnily enough, Kid Is Gone is still the only one I haven't pulled the trigger on, either.
Dude, Derek. Fix this.
(admittedly, I still need to pick up Empire. Not my favorite material, but still...)

Still dumb. And arguing that "this is what Tool does, so gtfo and go listen to something else if the release format doesn't suit you" is a stupid argument.

I just A/B'd both versions on my setup. I may be in the minority, but I strongly prefer version 1. The original release has a heavier handed production, with tasteful reverb soaking over everything to give the album a foggy atmospheric feeling which I feel suits the material really well.
Version 2 is much lighter on the production, with the drums feeling more raw and vocals cutting through the middle a little more. I don't feel that either mix is objectively better than the other, but they definitely offer different vibes. I'm glad I picked up both, but version 1 is probably going to be my go-to.

Liz dropped a new Raum album today: https://grouper.bandcamp.com/album/daughter
The special edition (gold leaf on insert) sold out before I even knew it was up. The only difference is the insert though.

Yep, the [Untitled] box set is gorgeous. I don't need another inferior boxset just for uniformity on my shelf. It would be one thing if they were going to include some unique bonus material, but that hasn't been the case so far.

Even the indie variants that feature glow in the dark LPs allegedly sound great.
ha! I'm going to pass on any glow-in-the-dark records, and I would be highly suspicious of any positive review unless it was from someone I trusted. There are all kinds of glowing reviews for crappy bootlegs and awful sounding records on Discogs...
I still haven't picked any of these up. I would love to grab Tremulant/De-Louse/Frances at some point, but the prices and the way they are trickling out variants are enough to make me lose any motivation.

I didn't mean to help dredge up another black vs. color debate. It's a tired argument. I don't really care what people like/purchase. I wish there were always a black copy available, but I realize this is a weird/fickle industry.
I did think that McPherson was genuinely curious about audio issues. 34 pages in and I can't remember exactly, but I thought there were some pressing issues with one or more of these releases at some point in the discussion.

The additional visual stimulation at no sacrifice to sound quality.
subjective. Many color presses look worse than a nice black copy, imo.

Agreed. This album is really good. Time Well was good, but I didn't connect with it as much as Further Out. I'm totally loving this though

On a Wire is fantastic. Outside of 4mm, it's probably the album I listen to the most.

There were two mixes of Mass VI, so this shouldn't be a big surprise...

I had my expectations set on something very similar to Phoenix, so that could be coloring my reaction.
Phoenix definitely colored my reaction. I love that album so much; everything about it is perfect. I assumed that he would connect it thematically, but probably do something different in terms of production and vibe. My assumptions were largely correct, but like I said, we'll see how this sits after more listens. Regardless, I expect the third entry to be different than both Phoenix and Havasu.

Mostly just the Mogwai deluxe boxes, but the colorways ended up being tame (single colors) and there were no audio issues, so I didn't bother.
I have considered it with the Bad Astronaut box. I'm not a fan of sploogy color-in-color or marble discs. For Bad Astronaut though, I can live with it.
