Robotic Empire was in contact with the band about repressing this and the band said they didn't want it repressed.

He then did the respectable thing and let it go.

1st step when releasing any record should always be contact the band. IMO a release like this is nothing more than a legal bootleg.

It seems ruthlessly capitalistic to say "the creators of this art didn't have anything to do with this repressing and in fact appear to be upset about it, but I need my colored vinylss and I need them now, so... they're lazy! Fuck 'em!"

Hum hasn't been a band consistently in over 10 years, why should they be expected to be on top of trying to keep their catalog in print when they apparently don't even have complete control over it?

Yeah, the repress may very well be legal. However, it doesn't seem like a hard task to let a band know when you are interested in reissuing their work, and yet so many represses seem to happen without the artist's knowledge or consent because it's not "legally required".

To be clear I wasn't hating on SRC at all, like Scott said they would have had no way of knowing. My hate was toward the guy that said

All SRC did was license it but to say fuck the band because they haven't done it yet is a terrible sentiment.

Everytime copyright changes it has to be updated, so if it changed at all there would be a record. According to copyright.gov there has been no change since 1995 and hum still owns part of the copyright. Plus copyright is good for as long as the creator is good plus 70 years.

Ever see Robert Fripp shredding Paganini compositions on his guitar (32nd notes!!)? He sits when he plays, and may move a little, but he is totally in his own universe--some would call that 'boring' I guess, vs. kids who just did a bunch of speed, coke, or angel dust and then hit the stage and thrash around, maybe hit the notes, maybe not-- but they're so "exciting to watch".    And some can really groove with their instruments while also being perfect with their execution and sound-- the best of both worlds, no fakery-showmanship and really into it.  i think Matt Weed with Rosetta fits into this category.

Honestly I would rather hear a well executed show (blinfolded) than to see all that 'emotion and adrenaline' or constipated faces etc what comes off as pure entertainment/faking orgasmic-like BS.    Now, Jud with GFE and many drummers, get a pass re: facial expressions as they burn off about 1000 calories in 30 minutes of pure physical exhaustion while executing. Not everyone can be a Peart.

The great moments for me at shows is when one of the members is a mere 'mortal' and splats a note, messes up a section, or has a minor equipment malfunction and the other band members are laughing and pointing fingers/ having a good time while the victim is sweating it out.  Mike Sullivan with RC comes to mind-- pretty serious when he plays, maybe some head nodding action vs Brian Cook who goes all out with the whole body and pays for it with the 'bangover' in the morning    Mike tapped a foot pedal once and disloged one the connecting cables on his pedalboard at exactly the worst time once--Turncrantz, the gent filled in and covered while Brian was having a good laugh..

The classic joke/mess up is with Rush in 2112, in the break where Geddy sings "And the meek shall inherit the earth", and Alex is supposed to start off that with a little A,B.C and C chord progression--and usually leaves Geddy hanging for that 1/2 second too long and messes him up. Guess you have to find it on YT to appreciate the Canadian sense of humor

People are willing to spend more money on better music.  I don't think that makes them hypocrites, just means they like music.  If you're somebody willing to spend $40.00 on an album because it's pressed on glow-in-the-dark purple vinyl and limited to 100 copies but not willing to spend $40.00 on a great album (vinyl/cd/digital included) then I think you might be better off collecting comic books.
