cemeterytapes reacted to thedillon in Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
This is not a reimagined album. This is a repress of Ocean Avenue in all its glory.
The records are finished and on a boat to the states. Once they arrive we’ll get our promo photos up and announce the album properly and go on sale shortly thereafter (probably a week from the official announcement).

Their most recent album "Spin" is my favorite from them. I definitely recommend checking it out.

Haven’t played the Limelight - but the Double Barrel is a great pedal and a very versatile, each side is basically an entirely different circuit so it’s like having two pedals in a single enclosure. My band recorded last month and sometimes we’d find the tone on one side good for one part and the tone on the other side good for a different one - so it’s definitely not a one trick pony. The Limelight seems like it has a single baked in tone and then a boost circuit on top of that tone, so it’s not the same “two pedals in one” deal the Double Barrel has. That said I love Electronic Audio Experiments and I’d rather give them my money than JHS personally, but I’m biased towards more ‘independent’, ‘small-run’ builders.

Hi y'all, thanks for posting this. Appreciate the support.
For the vinyl heads - we have had really good luck with the random colors this time around. I've done a ton of random pressings and sometimes I've gotten the "transition/mixed brown blob thing" as someone else mentioned. Most of the "transition colors" that I've seen for this pressing have been varying levels of translucent yellow. They look really nice, especially alongside the shiny gold matchbooks that come with every record.
The main records (/400) are a nice opaque turquoise and they sound really good. One of the better quality / thicker pressings I've ever had for my own music (other than the time when the plant accidentally pressed all of the first pressing of the first Signals LP on 180 gram. Really lucked out on that one!). The jackets have a nice rough matte finish on 'em, too.
And thank you to anybody reading this, whether you know my work with Signals or any other projects or not. A lot of these songs were inspired by time spent listening to stuff that we listen to on the road. Tom Petty, Neil Young, Jets to Brazil, Weakerthans, Laura Stevenson (who sings with me on a song here), Magnolia Electric Co. (whose lap steel player Mike Brenner plays on about half this record).
Super proud of it, hope y'all like it.

Got my turntable lab copy the other day - came with the Persona Non Grata single which I didn’t even know was included with the record so that was sick!

Hey man thanks so much for picking up a copy!
I'm shocked at how quickly it sold out. Pretty great.
Glad you're enjoying.
Great band. They got a spin on KEXP last night which is pretty righteous!

Lmaooo the /250 variant is only available in a $105 bundle with all four colors. How many variant collectors do you seriously think there are that would spend over $100 on four different colors of the same record? And the “deluxe edition” for $45 with no indication whatsoever of what makes it “deluxe” besides a slightly different cover is hilarious. That’s some truly out of touch, lofty-ass shit.

cemeterytapes reacted to cannonfunk in Best Deal You've Ever Gotten / Best Sale You've Ever Made
I got you all beat
A couple years ago I was browsing OfferUp, when I came across a seller who was asking absolutely insane prices for her vintage 7” singles (ie - she wanted $50 for common 45’s that aren’t even worth $1). I assumed it would be a waste of time looking through her ads, but as I’ve come to learn over the past 15 years, if someone has no idea what they’re selling, they may actually underprice an item out of sheer ignorance.
A few minutes into browsing her sales, I ran across an odd looking Lynyrd Skynyrd 7”, which had the band name misspelled as “Lynard Skynard.” She was asking $40 for it. Out of curiosity, I decided to look it up on Discogs. It had sold once in 2015 for $12, but only 7 people had it... and 210 people wanted it. That’s when my spidey senses started tingling!
After doing some research, it turns out that “Lynard Skynard” was the original band name... when the group was still in high school! The 7” in question was their first recorded demo. Only a few hundred were made, and they were passed out to friends and family, and sold at their earliest hometown shows.
I decided to buy it immediately, sight unseen. Trying to contain my excitement without tipping off the seller of its value, I pleaded with her to make sure that it was well protected during shipping, and sent in a sturdy box. She agreed, and the wait began.
About 2 weeks later, I was at work when I received a notification that it had been delivered. The moment the boss yelled “Lunch Break,” I jumped into my car and sped home. Opening the mailbox, my heart absolutely sunk: She sent it in a padded envelope, with no stiffeners. “No fucking way this thing survived,” I thought, as I pulled it out. However, it still felt solid. I opened it up, and... the vinyl was in nearly perfect condition. No scratches, glossy sheen, and almost new in appearance.
Within a week, I sold it for $1,500. And yes, that’s the actual sold listing.
Not a bad $40 investment, huh?

Years ago I was having a conversation about record collecting and a friend of mine was like: "Hey, there's a bunch of records in my mom's garage that I don't want - you can have them if you want."
So of course I was like: SURE!
I pick up this ratty cardboard box. Start looking through it... junk records, tons of empty 7" single sleeves, old band promo 8x10s, Rolling Stone magazines and then... a QOTSA Songs For The Deaf first Ipecac press and a handful of early Desert Sessions 10" from Man's Ruin.

cemeterytapes got a reaction from No This Is Patrick in Best Deal You've Ever Gotten / Best Sale You've Ever Made
Best find and best sale are hand in hand for me. When I was in tenth grade the first record I ever bought was a used copy of Jane Doe by Converge I found at my local record store (that years later I ended up working at) for like $20. I had it for several years before I ACTUALLY got into collecting, and after I started getting more serious about vinyl I discovered that the pressing of the record was the red/orange split OG tour variant which is the rarest version of the album ever released (at least to my knowledge). I held onto it for several more years, but eventually in college needed to pay some bills so I sold it for around $350 after the album got repressed with a better mastering.
I’ve also made $200+ on several radio rock albums (Shinedown, Alter Bridge, etc) that I bought for $20 when they were first pressed and that always amuses me.
also the time I found an OG press of The Power of Failing in a Goodwill was very cool. At the time I tried listening to it and I HATED it so I sold it immediately. I got into Mineral several years later and always regretted selling that record lol.

The Blue "Galaxy" variant was intended for our touring around our 20th anniversary, and we haven't decided how it will be released yet as clearly with covid and chris's accident we wont be playing anymore shows this year. We'll post as soon as any decisions are made on it!
