vinyl is a bit out of control right now with all the variants and all.  I liked when vinyl was just a mild trend and there was just 1 variant of a vinyl record still being released and most people didn't even know of it.  all these store exclusive colors and extra variants is just too much.  1 super nice variant is enough.

    I miss 2006 too.

  2. If this was The National's clever way of convincing me to (finally) pull the trigger on Cherry Tree, then... Mission accomplished.

Question: Are the presale shows also going on sale to the general public? Obviously the big festival ones are, but I'm talking the small venues... like The Roxy in ATL. That place is tiny. Fairly certain The National could sell that out solely through the presale, but I have to assume the usual outlets (TM, etc) will get at least 50% of the tickets or more. Since the floor is GA, more than 2 of us could go, assuming we can all snag tickets.

No idea how I missed this. This is enough for me to line up hours ahead of schedule

Yup. I must've hit 20 different sites around 2012 looking for ANY retail-priced copies of this. No luck. Even emailed Robyn's label begging for a repress.

Hopefully this means she'll do the self-titled album next, which for my money is THE greatest pop album of the 2000s. (No offense to CRJ of course.)

I picked up S/T, Fearless, and 1989 last weekend, and they all sound great.

By "great," do you mean "much better than the current non-colored presses, which sound like hot garbage"?

Or are you just saying "great" like, "It's on vinyl, so it's great!!"

Honestly, I sold my 1989 RSD when the prices got stupid because, as multiple people pointed out, TS vinyl is notorious for being poorly mastered. Basically the CD, but noisier.

And frankly, given the resurgence of reissues / represses in general, VMP is going to have a very hard time finding OOP but really sought after records going forward.

I mean, they didn't ask for my opinion, but....

Alice In Chains - Dirt or Tripod

    The Cure - Wish

    David Gray - White Ladder

Fiona Apple - any after Tidal

Toad The Wet Sprocket - any

Mars Volta - any (good ones plz)

Robyn - Robyn or Body Talk (I can't be alone in wanting copies for less than $300 each)

Frank Ocean - any (official presses plz)

But yeah, they should probably keep trying for SFTD too.

  6. Got an email from NIN this morning, checked it again. No mention of exclusive white vinyl, or Merchbar, or any link to obtain it.

I'm suspecting I get the "exclusive white vinyl" email sometime later today, long after all copies are gone.

This shit is getting old, Trent. But between this and the "physical" ticket method, I'm gonna be saving a bundle by not supporting NIN this year.

I think I read that whole dumpster fire and did anyone actually comment on the sound quality? You would think 45 rpm from the original reels vs digitally remastered would be the big selling point not what kind of jacket and a gatefold. Looking at the sticker price of some of my better sounding records at $48.99 for the Grant Green RSD and $44.99 for 2 LP Rumours it seems like a steal at $30 for a 2LP 45 rpm record and I would think the gatefold was axed because of the production costs of doing it this way. I'm not saying it's going to be an audiophile release but it likely sounds better than the current press, but Dom got eaten alive for actually bringing up the listening experience. Also going to use this opportunity to soapbox for the 2 LP Rumours seriously everyone reading this buy it, every copy you have ever known is a flaming pile of crap compared to this

Agreed that this VMP Doggystyle is probably a step up over the current press, but 45 RPM alone doesn't matter as much as the mastering itself... and I'm assuming this was cut from digital, so there's a limitation right there.
The 2LP Rumours was mastered all-analog, by two of the best guys in the biz (Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray), and pressed at 45 RPM, so that's basically a high-water mark for audiophile quality. Unknown engineer cutting Doggystyle from hi-rez digital.... might fall short.

Who mentions brand new in a Damien Rice thread?

I'm that weird guy who likes them both, I guess.

But there was a very similar situation when Deja got released after years of being OOP and going for $300. Folks acted like the $25 version wouldn't stay in print forever and lost their minds to get copies right away, and sure enough there WERE lots of stock outages for a spell.

I'm guessing if you want O in the next few months, it would be better to preorder now. If you don't mind waiting, there should be plenty of stock around come Christmas and probably discounted below $30. That said, MFFF never really came down much in price. The current Amazon price is what it sold for initially.

They told me they are limiting one per household because they are likely to oversell due to high interest and inquires since last year.

Aha, so it's gonna be one of those "this record will be pressed indefinitely, but we're almost definitely gonna sell out of the first run pressing so it will APPEAR to be OOP even when it isn't" deals.

Good to see Damien has elevated himself to Brand New Deja level.
