kamalatapes
Gilman is in the East Bay, not San Francisco. It's fucking annoying when some band comes to town and plays Oakland and says, "What's up San Francisco!" Fuck you. If there are hipsters over here it's because they are leaking in from the City. People in the East Bay are for real. Just good people enjoying the better weather, plenty of parking, and all the good music. Yes, I am biased. Reminds me of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzkoeyhAAdk @ 2:19 All the hipsters here in San Diego are pretty much all rejected hipsters from all other cities who hoard the beer communities in North Park/South Park. (San Diego is so divided and spread out it's ridiculous, literally all the "stereotypes" can be mapped out to the bone here in San Diego)
dawhizz
Will be in SF early next week for work. Probably won't have a ton of time for vinyl shopping but going to try to hit a few stores (maybe Sunday afternoon when I get in). Are Amoeba and Aquarius the ones to hit? HybridxReality
I have a friend that lives in SF. Tells me that he has about 4 other roommates to pay for rent. Haven't been to SF in a while.
heylepe
Another record store? Or something else? Maybe Rasputin? There's a ton of record stores all along haight st. Rasputin is a block or two away. Off Masonic you have Recycled records. In lower haight you have Rooky Ricardos and Groove Merchant. On Page and Scott is a place called Jack's Record Cellar that has a sign that just says RECORDS and seems to be open whenever he feels like showing up. On Octavia and Market is a place called Grooves - never been in before, but the diner next door is open late and pretty tasty. Welcome to SF! Where in the city are you living? nyhi
I recently moved to Walnut Creek from Williamsburg Brooklyn. Yes I'm aware they couldn't be more opposite.. My wife and I just had our first kid 6 weeks ago. I need to go out and have a beer, go to a show, go record shopping, get out of the house and do something relatively cool. Hit me up and we'll go to 1234 Go and Econo Jam records, I have some friends in Oakland and it's a quick drive there for me.
roadmonkey
Welcome to the area! I used to live in Concord about 3 years ago, now I'm also in Oakland at Lake Merritt area. I'd be down to hang out whenever. Sept 27 is the Bay Area Record Fair at Thee Parkside in SF in case you were looking for something to do, I'd be going but need to be in sacramento that weekend. I think there's enough VC people in the Bay Area now that we should consider meeting up for drinks and hanging out. Who's in?
nyhi
Yeah I'm definitely going to BARF! And I'm totally down for a meet up.

BuzzersonKillwell
I had pretty good luck at Amoeba on Haight. Rasputin's was the one with the basement? I think I had a decent time there as well. If you go to Linden Street and see a long black-haired dude with tattoos tell him Jeff says hi! My good friend Wyatt brews out there. roadmonkey

burntwolf
did anyone make it to the record swap?
lexicondevil
I haven't been to the KUSF swap in probably a decade. I used to go primarily to find rare jazz and soul records. Would rarely find any good punk. I'd get there around 6 a.m., so I wouldn't get scooped by all the dealers buying from other dealers. I did find some pretty rare stuff for cheap, but it was a bit of a shit show and I got tired of the pushiness. Would like to hear what it's like now from anyone who has gone recently. DakotyTSI
When I was in San Francisco in the last few months of 2012 I was homeless so I didn't exactly experience the "money to blow" part of San Fran necessarily haha but it was a very beautiful city! I started off in the Haight which is admittedly kinda gnarly and dirty but still a lot of cool little shops and golden gate park is amazing! Next I ventured toward the Castro which was cooler than I thought it was gonna be honestly, before going there I was kinda scared for some reason.. Downtown is also cool as long as our near fashion square and steer clear of the tenderloin.. Dave Chapelle was right, I've seriously never seen crack smoked so casually... Bernal Heights over by the Mission district has a hill with a remarkable view of the city that I would definitely check out sometime with a significant other if you get my drift, and North Beach which was one of the last places I actually checked out probably ended up being my favorite! Very cool "Little Italy" feel, the pizza was amazing, and everyone was really cool, even went to my first strib club "Little Darlings" lol not band for a homeless kid with an acoustic guitar. burntwolf
i hadn't been to the KUSF record swap in over 15 years but i went to one a few months ago. it wasn't bad. i was there at the tail end of it though. it looked like the stuff you used to be able to find in stores was now all at the swaps.
