The eternal return was such a let down after deliver us, but the human romance was much much better. It's the most accesible DH record. Supported these dudes for a long time b/c they're local and have put out great stuff for years, but this is total shit. Am I missing something? Did Hot Topic start a label and begin signing bands under the premise that they start writing Warped Tour tunes that appeal to tweens? Oh well, one less band to care about. I still think this album is really mediocre, but it has some really good tracks that make up for 60% of this album sounding like a total pile of shit. I get that they wanted to evolve their sound but some of this just reeks of conforming to that sumerian sound. Also, I get that everyone uses autotune but there are some tracks where it is way to blatant and doesn't help the "clean" vocals sound any better. There are still a couple of songs and parts mostly with the cleans that are just too far down that rabbit hole, but the music is so awesome and the leads are great as well. I mean, the song futurist has a similar vibe but damn that solo at the end just makes it that much better. Sounds like something that could be from Deliver Us. I've been a big fan of the clean vocals because they've used them sparsely and effectively in the past. With that said, I still don't think that is the downfall of this album. The lyrical content seems pretty weak and the guitar work seems uninspired and redundant. I've still caught myself humming along to a couple tracks and it isn't a terrible record by any means, however it isn't what I expect from Darkest Hour.
