enyfour5
This. It's a step back for them IMO. There are some stand out tracks though, love Heaviside . Their experimental direction on this album was boring, nothing stood out as new or exciting, kinda how i felt about daisy. I hate to compare it to brand new, cause i don't think brand new is that good (and they shouldn't be on a pedestal), but that is honestly the best way to put it. I was expecting a lot more, Sorta disappointed .

travis
I've had this for a couple weeks but I'm still not sure how I feel about this album yet. I like most of it but I feel like it could be a grower and I'll end up really loving it. ...and yes, that billboard is real.

biodigitaljazz
And yeah I'm just super disappointed in the album. Almost for sure gonna sell
jon720
I found this album hard to get through. By the third time listening, there was nothing overly memorable about any song. I like when bands go a different route, but these songs just aren't too strong.

dvv
if more songs would've been like Stain I would have liked this album a LOT more
andrewmadore
stain is maybe the worst song on this record. aside from that and ten this album has some of their best songs they've ever written
biodigitaljazz
I feel like there was a big shift towards minimal songwriting, slower simpler stuff kind of like Hyperview but they had brand new influence too and the combo just didn't work. Shelby
a new song for those still waiting to hear the whole thing.. http://substreammagazine.com/2015/06/exclusive-citizens-numb-yourself-is-provocative-progressive-and-powerful/ Great song, can't wait for my copy. You may not like the newer sound but I have to disagree. These songs are clearly more thought out and can be distinguished from one another unlike Youth. That album sounded like one long song.. I really don't get all the hype about it

I'm listening to Youth for the first time right now and I don't understand why you think the new record is simpler than this. You can clearly separate the tracks in each song in your head, doesn't get much simpler than that.

I haven't entirely dismissed EIGTH but comparing the two records, it seems like a swing and a miss compared to Youth. Prominent melodies across all instruments have minor progressions for a darker tone, there are more varied time signatures, there are slower, more empty moments whereas on Youth, there's more happening and parts segue more than EIGTH, it sounds like individual parts written and put together. dapeebs
Got my full album download from RFC, so guess they're just rolling with the leak. With the amount of attention this is getting, it's sad to see it leaked. Really hoping that this tops Youth for me and it's not as bad as some of you are making it out to be. I'm not saying it's bad I just don't think it's as good as Youth. It sounds like they wanted to expand sound wise but wanted to stay accessible so it feels almost like an awkward transition. Silo was more enjoyable than half these songs.

Kanellos
Ring of Chain and Numb Yourself are the only salvageable songs off this record imo. The ambient songs are ok too but the entire thing just isnt pleasing at all. And ten is an awful song, straight up. The flow of this record is questionable. I think some people might find a niche with this record but its just not doing anything for me coming off of Silo.
