mclz
Is it possible for Showalter to get Manager of the Year even though he was only with them since August. You look at what he did in that short amount of time and its phenomenal. Not to mention they had the best record in baseball in those games since August. travis
Well dont they vote for all these awards before the post season anyways? Giants were a good team this year but really exploded in the playoffs, they werent one of the best teams overall during the season.
dynamitekid
Why not Bud Black? He got 90 wins out of that team. And there's no way Showalter should get it when you consider the job Gardenhire did or the job Bob Geren did with Oakland
flood
showalter posted like the best record in baseball from august on, with what amounted to a terrible team... thats HUGE.
travis
showalter posted like the best record in baseball from august on, with what amounted to a terrible team... thats HUGE. But he was only with the team for about a month. He could have gone undefeated in the time he was there and still shouldnt get manager of the year. dynamitekid
He debuted on Aug. 6th and went 34-23. Thats great but hardly a big enough turnaround for MOTY consideration.
travis
Interesting article on the top 50 FA's this off season and where they might end up. Id LOVE if the Angels landed those 3 guys. They still need someone to play third tho. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/2011-top-50-free-agents.html
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
brewers might be intersted in picking up Washburn for a Jim Edmonds-type deal. for a back of the rotation arm, i'd take that ticket just to add depth to the rotation so Manny Parra doesnt have to start. mclz
^I'm very happy for him even though I'm a die hard Yankee fan. I hope for now on they take Sabermetrics into account instead of just deciding on wins.

MattyIceyo
Victor Martinez to the Tigers....Red Sox are stupid for not resigning him unless they pull something better..guy was a great fit...DH/Catcher/1st base.... im still shaking my head as i type this. dynamitekid
No they didn't. They already have a 1B/DH who came in second in the MVP voting. He's going to be 35 at the end of the contract and he's not a good defensive catcher already. This has bad contract written all over it. thebiglebowski
Everyone always wants to play GM--Deciding if they overpaid or should have signed someone else or whatever. Tigers fans should just be happy the team is protecting Cabrera. Victor is an all-star and a badass hitter. Gotta be happy in Detroit. Still hoping they sign one more big free agent. Crawford would be incred. Raburn and Boesch can compete for a spot and push each other. Mags back would be OK though.
travis
Still hoping they sign one more big free agent. Crawford would be incred. Every single baseball "insider" Ive heard from so far says he's going to Anaheim. Im already counting on the Halos getting hime so Im gonna be super bummed out if Crawford doesnt end up as an Angel next year. I think, in a couple years, the Tigers are going to be regretting that Martinez contract big time.
dynamitekid
That's what im saying. But if they win the world series then who cares. Everyone thinks crawford is going to anaheim, so he probably won't.
