mclz
So they are saying that on Thursday we will know what team Cliff Lee is going to be on.
burdenx
Were I a Rangers or Yankees fan, I'd be rooting for Lee to not sign with my team. This guy's contract is going to look pretty stupid around year 5.
flood
Were I a Rangers or Yankees fan, I'd be rooting for Lee to not sign with my team. This guy's contract is going to look pretty stupid around year 5. but look at the potential payoff in the meantime... Lee's one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball.. and making the playoffs a couple times is definitely worth a bad contract a few years down the line
burdenx
I guess the Yankees are able to write off $20+ million a year of a bad contract. Hell, they just gave $51 million for 3 years of a below average shortstop. I wouldn't throw $140 million at a 32 year old pitcher with 4 good seasons under his belt. travis
The Yankees can do whatever they want and will still have more money than anyone else. It sucks.
dynamitekid
I've heard from a couple Yankees fans and they say they will stop being Yankee fans if they sign Cliff Lee. They say that the money just takes the fun out of it.
travis
Matsui signed with the A's. Not a big deal but I figured a few people might care. Im just glad the Angels didnt resign him.
finchbadass
I've heard from a couple Yankees fans and they say they will stop being Yankee fans if they sign Cliff Lee. They say that the money just takes the fun out of it. i find that very hard to believe. signing sabathia, teixeira and burnett two years ago didnt push those people over the edge. trading for and then re-signing arod didnt push those people over the edge. finchbadass
lee's gonna sign with the phillies for far less money than the rangers and yankees would have given him. so now the phillies have four #1 starters in their rotation plus they could go lefty, righty, lefty, righty or vice versa if their heart desired. MattyIceyo
lee does in fact sign with the phillies.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
joe blanton must feel like the odd man out on that rotation. jesus christ.
selfreliable
Great news for us. Now if they could just explain why they traded him away in the first place. But today is a great day to be a phillies fan knowing we got that rotation.
flood
wow that rotation is probably the scariest since the koufax/drysdale/podres era dodgers.... i'd hate to be in the NL east right now
selfreliable
Just read they might trade blanton to get an outfielder to platoon in right with Dominic Brown.
311thrice
Definitely bummed that the Rangers couldn't resign him, but I'm definitely glad that the Yanks didn't get him either. Gotta respect the man for going with his heart and not with the money. He left a lot of money on the table.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
god i dont even know what rotation arms they can even get at this point... grenkie i doubt will go and they wont bite on Pavano again since, well, he'll just turn into jeff suppan whereever he goes.. their rotation could be a mess if Pettitite retires. dynamitekid
I don't think they are too bad off. They still have sabathia, hughes and burnett. I think Greinke would melt under the pressure of New York.
selfreliable
I hope for the sake of Greinke he wouldnt melt, just for the personal hell it would put him through and no one deserves that. He also seems like a smart enough person to know that the pressure will raise his anxiety and have both NY teams on his no trade clause.
