First 10 Random Songs!

Recommended Posts

Scott did this a while back and it was kinda fun. Take your iPod, iTunes whatever, set it to random and list the first 10 songs that come up and something about them.

1)Crock - Jason Webley: Part of his split series. Just 0:46 of noise really.

2) I could have Danced All Night - Nat King Cole: I put stuff like this on when I clean or do shit around the house. Totally calming. Plus I think it was in our wedding.

3) Bottles - The Swellers: TIGHT. These kids remind me of NUFAN before they gave up (burn)

4) !!!!! - The Roots: Phrenology is one of my favorite albums, The Roots Kill it.

5) We Will - The Frisk: Their full length album is so much better than the EP. Fun ass east bay punk. Jesse is my hero.

6) 911- Wyclef Jean: this is one of the funniest albums ever. Not great but pretty fun.

7) Pike St. - Park Slope - BTMI!: One of my least favorite albums by them, but still charming.

8) Oh, Icicle - Dusty Rhodes River Band: I need to erase this. I thought I'd dig this album but I absolutely can not stand it. Not sure why.

9) Lovage - Lovage: Great side project. Super fun and great beats.

10) My Charie Amour - Stevie Wonder: One of the few songs of his that I still love. Some of his over synthy stuff loses me, but this is just a great summer song that makes you think of love in the city. I'm a tool.

Your turn!

1. "Queen Bitch" - David Bowie. Hunky Dory is such a solid album.

2. "Trip & Stumble" - Defiance, Ohio. Forgot about this song. I like it.

3. "One For The Braves [live]" - Good Riddance. Every time I wear my Good Riddance sweatshirt with the GR bomb logo, people ask me if the GR stands for Guns N' Roses...

4. "Two-Headed Boy" - Neutral Milk Hotel. Jeff Mangum should record more shit.

5. "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" - The Beatles. This is the slower version from Anthology 3. Good song. Also: How many fucking times did Joe Cocker cover the Beatles?

6. "Teenage Freakshow" - Screeching Weasel. I remember buying a used copy of My Brain Hurts from a random record store in Pasadena. It was scratched to shit and barely played, so I splurged and bought a new copy. Good decision.

7. "Jamming" - Bob Marley. I dig Bob, but don't find myself actively listening to much of his output. Whenever he comes on I like it, but I don't really play him much on my own time.

8. "Red House" - Jimi Hendrix. Two black artists in a row. Can we make it three?

9. "Middle of the Road" - The Pretenders. Guess not. My iTunes is racist.

10. "Watching the Detectives" - Elvis Costello. Maybe my favorite Elvis song. So fucking good. Got to see him live last year and it was awesome.

Discount - Waiting By The Wayside (Off of my favorite album of theirs...)

Westbound Train - For The First Time (One of my favorite bands... listened to their new album off of the Warped Tour stream like 10 times through already.. Still waiting for some WBT vinyl)

Catch 22 - Keasbey Nights (Live) - (Special note: I was at this show when they recorded this album and filmed the DVD. I was an awkward gangly 16 year old whos only footage on the DVD is when I get slammed up against the barricades while my glasses fly off my face. I thought it was bad-ass.)

Less Than Jake - Lockdown

BTMI! - Side Projects are Never Successful

MTX - Personality Seminar (Second favorite album by this band, behind Love is Dead)

The Bananas - Radioaction (off of New Animals... one of the best albums of last year!!)

Public Access - O'Reilly (They broke up last year... which sucks.. but everyone should still check them out)

ASOB - RSTLINE (top 5 favorite bands of all time!)

Lifetime - Alive

Fuck... this list was pretty ska-heavy, huh?

1) Limbeck - Comin' from Tuscon

Not one of my faves off of the album, but it's an overall good album, and really the only Limbeck record I enjoy. These songs make me wish I lived on the West Coast.

2)Moneen - The Frightening Reality of the Fact that We Will All Have to Grow Up and Settle Down One Day

Great song off of a criminally underrated album. I can't imagine why this band didn't take off. Easily one of the best things coming out of that scene at the time of this release.

3)Explosions in the Sky - Catastrophe and the Cure

I just recently got this album. I like to listen to post rock stuff when I'm reading or writing. It keeps me from going crazy from silence, and it's not to intense for passive listening.

4)Universal Order of Armageddon - Visible Distance

I just found out about these guys, but I like them a lot. Good hardcore without any chugging bullshit.

5)Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack

I got into this band when I heard Ok Computer and fell in love with them after I heard Amnesiac and Kid A. This song doesn't really do much without being in the context of the album though.

6)Minus the Bear - Double Vision Quest

A ludicrously good song by a band that keeps getting better.I wish Dave Knudson would teach me how to play guitar.

7)Modest Mouse - All Nite Diner

Not one of my favorite Modest Mouse songs, but this band is great regardless.

8)Cursive - The Knowledgable Hasbeens

One of my favorite bands.

9)Piebald - Roll On

A fun little piano song that would have been big in the 70s by one of the most underrated punk/emo/rock bands ever.

10)Weatherbox - Untitled

This stinker slows down one of my favorite albums ever. The only bad song on the album.

1. The Weakerthans - This Is A Firedoor Never Leave Open

Left And Leaving is such a damn good album. I like the noise at the beginning for some reason.

2. Atom And His Package - No Way DNA

Not my favorite Atom song, but its amusing.

3. The Hives - Uptempo Venomous Poison

First Hives album was rad as hell. Some good rockin' tunes.

4. Descendents - Dry Spell

Fuck you, I like Cool To Be You. This song is pretty meh though.

5. The Replacements - Fuck School

Fuck yeah!

6. Hot Snakes - Plenty For All

Best Hot Snakes song. That guitar part is infectious.

7. NOFX - USA-holes

8. Tom Waits - Gun Street Girl

Such an awesome voice. I love how simple this song is.

9. Ramones - I Believe In Miracles

Not the best Ramones song by far, but its still better than anything you like.

1. Explosions in the Sky - Have You Passed Through This Night? So...what to say about these guys that hasn't been said? One of my favorite tracks from this record.

2. Sonic Youth - Making The Nature Scene I just imagine standing in some smokey Chelsea bar sipping on cheap whiskey when I hear this track.

3. Velocity Girl - The All Consumer Kind of a strange followup to the track above. Good song, though. simpatico! is one of the best albums of the 90's, in my opinion.

4. Rush - La Villa Strangiato Hemispheres is one of my favorite Rush albums. My father was a huge Rush fan, so I heard a lot of them growing up. I can remember sitting in his lap, maybe all of 4, watching the channel peak lights go off on his Marantz receiver as he listened with his headphones on. I love the spanish guitar work at the beginning of the song, and in hindsight, this is probably the song that stoked my love of instrumentals.

5. The American Analog Set - The Kindness of Strangers Love this record. Love this track. Love this band.

6. Middle 9 - Dance, Dance, Dance Japanese free-form math/jazz. Think Tortoises' brainy Asian cousin. Great stuff. Not the best track, but solid record.

7. Flake Music - Vantage Flake Music kicks the fuck out of The Shins. Any day.

8. Silkworm - Around The Outline Another great song from a great album. Too bad how they ended.

9. Swervedriver - Duel This was one of my favorite songs at one point. Love that shoegaze wall of sound. This track was actually on the soundtrack for the PS1 game "Road Rash" which was equally as awesome. Haven't heard this in a while, actually. Will give the whole album a spin later tonight.

10. Pop Unknown - Fallen Star I remember buying this hoping that it would somehow pick up where Mineral left off. I was mistaken, but not disappointed. Was this put out on vinyl? I'd like to have it if it was. Anyone?

This was a great thread idea. Reading some entries, it made me remember "shit -- I have that record!" and listen to some things I haven't heard in a while.

And it's funny -- I have a ton of hardcore/screamo stuff but nothing popped up.

Push shuffle on iPod and...

Toilet Seats Coming Down - Chixdiggit

They rerecorded this album from start to finish. Cool idea, sounds fuckin horrible. This is the original version

Homer Sings The Flintstones Theme - Homer Simpson

I put little joke songs and movie clips on my ipod, they're like little treasures that crack me up and make a great lead in to the next song.

Silver Lining - Rilo Kiley

I liked this about the first two times I heard it, sick of it.

I Want Candy - Bow Wow Wow

Meh, sick of this shit too.

Descendents - Descendents

"We're the proud, the few..."

East Bound And Down - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

Favorite album by them, least favorite song off it.

Irish Blood, English heart - Morrissey

Not really a big fan of his, but this is a great song all around with surprisingly heavy guitars.

Galleria - Phantom Planet

I love this song and never get sick of it. I highly recommend it.

Rain When I Die - Alice In Chains

I have to be in the right mood for this album, but it still holds up.

Playground Love - Air

One of my favorite bands, and their most famous song. Beautiful.

1) Howards Alias - W.O.R.L.D

Spastic post-hardcore-esque progressive ska. Featuring the guitar and vocal by Matthew Reynolds. His skills are beautiful, which goes for the rest of the band as this track demonstrates.

2) Lightyear - George, My Shit

Here's another ska one to check out, seriously. Lightyear are a great mix of ska, skate-punk and a few other bits they chuck in on occasion! This one contains some fancy sound effects! I actually saw them play this song at a reunion show, only to find out like 30 seconds in that they were miming along...but the CD started skipping! People were still going mad though.

3) Sonic Boom Six - All In

This one has me bouncing around my room and acting like a rude boy. I usually skip their LP to this track. Bit of ska flavored hip-hop feat. Coolie Ranx!

4) the Lawrence Arms - The Corpses of Our Motivation

Best band ever etc etc.

5) Smoke or Fire - The Hard Way

I slack out on this band far too much, and I'm still bummed I missed them with Fake Problems a while back.

6) Dillinger Four - Let Them Eat Thomas Paine

Another band I totally slack on, but I will be seeing this year. Good shit.

7) Screaching Weasel - Supermarket Fantasy

It's a shame Ben Weasel is a dick, right?

8) Cobra Skulls - I Want Bigger Cobra Skulls

Definitely love the skulls vocal work. Devin's singing is just great.

9) Intro5pect - See The End

My love for these guys has no end! They really pull off an impressive live show, I'd get so confused with the live drums and the synth drums they use! See them.

10) Andrew Jackson Jihad - Darkest Hour

Best acoustic act, no doubt. The lyrics to every track still blows my mind.

Bonus Ball 11!) Shook Ones - The Never Underground

Best hardcore band. Listen to how godamn fast those drums are! Short but totally sweet track.

Guest drahtuos

eat skull - alarms (noisy lo-fi, haven't listened to them much but another song on the album called waiting for the hesitation is way good)

RAD ROUND TWO FUCK YOU:

1. The Replacements - Here Comes A Regular

The Placemats could always close an album the right way.

2. Andrew Jackson Jihad - Bad Bad Things

Hated these guys at first. I don't know why exactly, because they actually rule.

3. Weekend Nachos - Sick In The Head

Every once in awhile I get in the mood for this. Not often, but it happens.

4. Propagandhi - Mutual Friend

I didn't think this was actually a Prop song at first while listening.

5. Shinobu - Same Bastards

Worstward, Ho! is such a great album. Not a bad song on it.

6. Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

Perfect.

Haha, beats off. Repeater is my second favorite Fugazi album.

1. Descendents - Sour Grapes - Great band! Not the best song, but enjoyable. Milo sounds like James Hetfiled in the first verse.

2. Modest Mouse - She Ionizes & Atomizes - Just started really getting into these guys. There old stuff is all pretty much flawless to me.

3. Dead Kennedys - When Ya Get Drafted - I used to listen to "Fresh Fruit..." constantly and it never got old. The Dead Kennedys were an all around great band.

4. Johnny Cash - Bridge Over Troubled Water - I grew up on Johnny Cash because my grandparents were really into him. His stuff never gets old.

5. Planes Mistaken For Stars - Widow: A Love Song - One of the best songs on "Mercy."

6. The Ramones - Durgano 95 - It's a Ramones song. You know what to expect.

7. TSOL - I'm Tired of Life - "Dance With Me" is a classic record and is essential listening.

8. Alkaline Trio - Bleeder - They are my favorite band and this is one of my top three trio songs.

9. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Dr. D - One of the best ska bands ever and one of their best songs.

10. Hot Water Music - Blackjaw - My second favorite band ever. This song is amazing, much like everything on "Fuel..."
