Knoxville, TN. There used to be a great music scene around here but slowly diminished once Whitechapel got signed and everyone tried to jump on that train.

Decent bands that are from around here past and present, though.

I'm from Delaware:

Jade Tree

Boy Sets Fire

Walleye

The Kill Quota

Stormwatch

Bad Luck 13 Riot Extravaganza

Zen Geurrilla

DuPont

Best beaches on the East Coast

convenient drive to DC, Philly, Baltimore, NYC

And the illest punks in the world

Notice I didn't mention George Thorogood or our beloved vice president. That's because I hate them and they suck.

buy you just mentioned both of them... in your last sentence.

you are so lucky to live in an area with a thriving music scene. wilmington, delaware here...there's the spinto band who i saw a few times at this hole in the wall coffee shop before they went on mtv2. other than that, i just look to the philly scene...used to really dig the teeth from over there.

Be glad you live in Wilmington, I live in Dover and I'm sure it's waay worse. at the very least my drive to philly is an extra 40 minutes!

the area where i live (harrisburg/lancaster/york) is pretty predominately a crappy metalcore scene, due to the fact that ABR is from here and made it big.

but worth checking out:

we were skeletons (throwback screamo/post-hardcore)

http://www.punknews.org/bands/wewereskeletons

koji (indie/acoustic, all around good dude i've known for a long time and just got signed to rfc)

www.myspace.com/kojisaysaloha

reignition (hardcore)

www.myspace.com/reignitionpa

obviously there's a lotta good bands coming out of other areas of PA, but i wouldn't consider any of those 'hometown' acts. harrisburg doesn't have much of a scene, but it's a reasonable drive to baltimore, philly and DC, luckily.

New Orleans needs some Jazz / Brass Band mentions:

The Hot Club of New Orleans

The Courtyard Kings

The New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings (not that shitty band you're thinking of)

The Palmetto Bug Stompers

Hot 8 Brass Band

Rebirth Brass Band

Irvin Mayfield

Ellis Jr. and Sr./Wynton/Jason/Branford Marsalis

Harry Connick Jr.

Jeremy Davenport

Kermit Ruffins

And about a million more. Street musicians here would rival professionals elsewhere.

And let's give props to some fallen heroes: Satchmo, Fats Domino, Lee Dorsey, Alex Chilton.

Oh yeah: Trent Reznor. And Better Than Ezra.

Of course I know Trombone Shorty. It's hard to live here and not know them.

Another trombone ensemble of note is Bonerama. Shitty name, but the music is rad.
