The "Talk up your favorite local bands" Thread

Recommended Posts

Post where you're from and list some or all of your favorite local bands.

Here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota there's a wealth of great local groups. Here are some of my favorites:

The Drug Budget: http://youtu.be/8jY-UazEkRQ

I'm a little biased because the singer plays drums in my band but they are awesome.

Cadette: http://cadettecadettecadette.tumblr.com/post/15728216494#notes

slower and dirty. Loud. Great drummer.

The Blind Shake:

Amazing live band.

Disasteratti: http://youtu.be/HDS2vzzkXew

Touch & Go-esque stuff. Loud and ugly.

Teenage Moods: http://youtu.be/Jj1ZfqhSiHs

Nothing too original. Open chords and melodies. Just good Rock and Roll.

Hyperslob: http://youtu.be/o7pp1jus6rM

Drummer from Tennage Moods sings. Awesome two chord pop.

Nightosaur: http://youtu.be/IqgXct7b3cE

Shirtless dude rock.

Animal Lover: http://youtu.be/qzEYGyL3a0w (dark video)

LOUD AS FUCK.

The Funeral and the Twilight: http://thefuneralandthetwilight.bandcamp.com/

Good and haunting.

Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires...Southern Rock N Soul at it's finest, Lee also plays lead guitar in Dexateens (Lucero loves 'em, so should you)

https://www.facebook.com/thegloryfires

Dead Fingers...Taylor Hollingsworth (of the Mystic Valley Band) and Kate Taylor (sister of Maria Taylor) doing that whole male and femal duo thing better than most everybody else

http://www.deadfingers.com

The Fourth Estate...Melodic Hardcore, done very very very well. pick up their debut 7" from Dan at FatSandwich Records

http://thefourthestate.bandcamp.com/

Model Citizen...Matt Patton can do no wrong in my book, whether fronting this band, his Rock N Roll baby....or playing bass for the Dexateens, or playing bass for Drive-By Truckers (on their current U.S. Tour) or filling in the bottom end for the occasional SDX show...Matt Patton might be the hardest working musician in Alabama

http://modelcitizenband.com/

Dexateens....Southern Rock N Roll with a heavy Punk influence (on their Earlier stuff), fucking love this shit

http://www.dexateens.net/

Alabama Shakes....these kids are blowing up really really really quickly, I'm sure it won't stop anytime soon as their ATO debut is about to be released

http://www.alabamashakes.com/

Monitors....My buddy is in this band, they kick a lot of ass

http://monitorsrule.bandcamp.com/

Dan Sartain....fantastic man, fantastic music

http://dansartain.com/

I'm sure I'll post more later...this'll do for now

Dude, I've pretty much lost touch with a lot of the local MN stuff these days but a few years ago before they broke up, Baby Guts were soooo awesome and Retards In Love were also really cool. Not sure if RIL are still around but I recommend those if you get a chance.

Gainesville.

Senders http://senders.bandcamp.com/ 90s Foo Fighters had a baby and Torche and Sunny Day Real Estate are both fighting to disprove their paternity.

So Pastel http://sopastel.bandcamp.com/ AmRep style hardcore weirdness. They've always reminded me a lot of hosegotcable.

Averkiou http://averkiou.bandcamp.com/ Reverb soaked catchy rock with a shoegaze slant.

Mauser http://mauserpunk.blogspot.com/ Noisy, chaotic hardcore.

Well I'm Australian so I'm not sure if you'll care about any of the bands here. We actually have a huge metal and hardcore scene over here, especially in Brisbane where I am. I list a couple see if you like them.

Aversions Crown (Death Metal, Real) Very skilled musicians, will be doing big things.

http://www.facebook.com/AversionsCrown

Widow the Sea (Death Metal) Been around for a while, have a loyal fan base in Aus.

Awaken, I Am (Post-Hardcore/Pop-Rock/Alternative/Hard to Genrelise) Sort of sound a bit like old Saosin.

Nebraska (Screamo, Post-Hardcore, Fucking awesome) these guys are my favorite right now. They are from Adelaide. They play real screamo and they are good. Couldn't find their Facebook.

The Victim Party (ex Hostage Life, Bombs Over Providence, The Black Lungs, The Artist Life, The Little Millionaires, The Ward and Marilyn’s Vitamins)

Great punk rock

The release show last week was fun, but every time I see Adam Cook in a band I just miss Bombs Over Providence, those guys were the best.
