Guest
I have a AT PL-120 turntable and want to get rid of the stock DJ cart. on it. I've been looking at possibly either the Shure M97xE or the Ortofon 2M red. I've been leaning more towards the ortofon 2m red. Anyone have this table and upgrade their cart? somethingvinyl
I hear lots of people like Shure.
circuit bored records
I love my shure m97xe, I'm convinced it is the best cartridge under $100 and I've compared it directly to an Ortofon red on my TT. I also have a similar "DJ TT" setup, a Stanton T80 and I use a seperate preamp for it. They are both really good cartridges though, between those two it'll probably be personal preference more than anything
hobophobic
Anyone have this table and upgrade their cart? I have this table, but I havent updated the cartridge. The DJ cartridge that came with it still sounds pretty decent after 5 years of use. I will be looking to upgrade pretty soon.
yancey47
I have the 2M Red and couldn't be happier with it. Really made a difference. Never heard the Shure directly but people seem to like it. Doesn't seem like there's a bad choice.
jonnyh85
I went for the 2M Red and its great, but it was a toss up between that and the Shure. I got a good deal.
karadotcollett
are these compatible with the Denon DP300F?

penarecords
Shure M97 is the way to go, partner.
burntwolf
I had the Shure M97xE and was happy with. Just upgraded but the Shure was fine, esp for the $.
soundofsulfur
Here's another vote for the m97xe. It originally retailed for around $150, and now you can get it for $70. Seems to have a sturdy stylus as well, it's taken some pretty hard bumps that I was sure would break it.
littlebistro
Shure for sure.
justinfastbreak
I just picked up a Sumiko Pearl which seems comparable to the Ortofon 2M Red. I like it, but I really wish I could've heard the Ortofon first as the Pearl lacks something. Anyone else have experience with the Sumiko? thousandjulys
Jumped on the shure last month, kicking myself for waiting as long as I did to upgrade. It's wonderful !
youspinmeround
are these compatible with the Denon DP300F? Yes. Needle doctor actually sells that TT with the 2m That is what I bought. Would not switch to anything else

Guest
It looks like I'll probably grab the Shure. Does it come with a tracking force gauge, or will I need to buy one?
koremora
Shure is the best. Upgraded the same exact TT you have with it, no regrets.
Guest
I broke down and ordered the Shure. I'm really excited to try it out. I need to find a nice vintage receiver soon too, but it may need to wait until I pay off my newly purchased household appliances.
