PO: Further Seems Forever - Penny Black

Recommended Posts

the music is ok, it's exciting that Chris is back. But really, sonically, this thing sounds like shit. I can't believe they really thought they could put this out with the hype of Chris friggin Carrabba returning to the fold without people critically listening to the vocals and hearing the garbage that's in the mix.

for the most part, this was my first reaction, though my first listen was on a laptop cause i couldn't wait. i've since then downloaded a higher quality rip and listed to it with nice headphones and soundsystem, and i can definitely get past it. i'll have the vinyl tomorrow, so that should be a good test too.

also, seeing them live should improve my impressions on some of the songs.

i don't know, i've never thought chris's lyrics were groundbreaking. i thought the lyrics on how to start a fire were REALLY cheesy and i couldn't get through most of hide nothing. after several listens to this new record i am really digging it. it's definitely a grower. first time i listened to it, i was really let down. but by the fourth time, i found myself really enjoying it. i think everyone needs to give this a few listens with an open mind before casting it off.
