jhulud
Yup. The Disney Co. has bought out Lucasfilm Ltd. and a new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, will be out in 2015. Reported via numerous sources but here's the official statement from Disney: http://thewaltdisneycompany.com/disney-news/press-releases/2012/10/disney-acquire-lucasfilm-ltd I feel like I'm in Bizarro World now. ifworkpermits
no one's happy about this, right? Depends on what part of the story they are going to adapt into this... If it involves Han Solo / Leia's kids, I may be interested. Anything else, NO THANK YOU!
noalarmplanet
no one's happy about this, right? NO. Someone needs to make a troll face george lucas because that motherfucker is the greatest troll of all time.
3arl
Hopefully it will be about Jar Jar Binks and Pod-Racing. Otherwise I'm not interested. littlebistro, tittus, almightyseancore and 2 others
anomynous
Him being creative consultant is essentially a return to the production of the OT, so it might be a good thing. Emphasis on might.
PC Music
Hopefully it will be about Jar Jar Binks and Pod-Racing. Otherwise I'm not interested. As long as it results in another Pod racer game I'm all for it! tittus

Monkey Island changed my life when I was younger.
noalarmplanet
I am however excited that lucas is only a consultant on the new films. He is the reason the last three film were the desolation of all my childhood hopes and dreams.

roadmonkey
As an ex-employee of lucasfilm, I can say this is really really surprising. When I was last there (a little over 2 years ago) They assured everyone that no one was buying them and that they were not going public. Needless to say someoe that I used to work with are shocked and paranoid. I really hope merging with the mouse doesn't cause too much heartbreak with employees. jhulud
The only thing that I am curious about is where they will go with Episode VII. I never read nor cared much for the expanded universe stuff in the books and comic books. I did read some of the titles Dark Horse comics put out but that was more of habit. dreamover
i can't wait until they remake episodes 4-6. The technology just wasn't ready back then.

thejesseb
As someone who has read a little bit of the extended universe, this has some potential. As long as they dont try to relate to much to the past movies it will be decent.

piecemeal
The above posts re: JJ Abrams demonstrate the problem with the Hollywood system. These people aren't geniuses, there's thousands of other more talented filmmakers out there, yet that's all the discussion has been since the announcement. "Will it be Abrams or Whedon??!??" Empire Strikes Back was directed by a guy who was famous for making unsuccessful dramatic art films, and he made the goddamn best movie of them all. Hollywood feeds us the same shit and lets us think it's what's best for us. Give the movies to an unknown, someone with some new ideas. Hell, Lucas offered ROTJ to a young David Lynch for chrissakes!
