THE OFFICIAL EBAY CRAZINESS THREAD

Recommended Posts

Anybody mildly interested in soul should watch this auction. I wish I could this thing for $10:

This seller is excellent, I don't remember what I've purchased from them and it had to have been years ago, but I must have been impressed enough to add them to my favorites list for one reason or another.

Okay, here's my latest eBay craziness story.

There was an item I wanted to purchase on ebay. I bid as high as I could, and ultimately got outbid. The item went for around $600. Later in that week, having lost the bid,I made a different but equally large purchase and was back to having zero expendable cash for fun shit.

Later in the week I get a message from the seller, the winning bidder refused to pay and since I was so interested (I must have placed a dozen bids) he would be willing to sell it to me privately for $400. Okay, fair enough, I'm all for it, but now I'm broke. So I told him my predicament and I would understand if he would just rather relist it again instead of waiting around for me to pay, but if he was willing to wait a little while for me to save up a bit and maybe sell some things, I would be very willing to make the purchase. He was okay with this and told me he would give me until the end of July.

We correspond over the 2 month period and keep eachother updated. Come yesterday, I message him and tell him I would be ready to make the purchase within the week, and asked him to provide his PayPal address.

He does, asks me to send another $10 for shipping and mark the payment as a gift. I wouldn't do this for a $10 item, let alone a $400 item. I need some kind of protection on a purchase this big. Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the seller, as it is an absolutely one of a kind item and will never find another for sale - no other can exist.

I tell the seller I would not do this, but I would send him $415 through PayPal marked as a purchase - this would more than cover media mail shipping and PayPal fees

The seller sends a message saying this would be fine. Then, less than 2 minutes later, sends another message saying this is actually not okay and would prefer me to send him a money order for the $415. Again, no protection, he can take the money and run with it.

I'm really pissed because I really really really want this, one can even argue that I actually do NEED this item. And this guy is being a major douchehole. Now he is completely going back on the agreement we made in regards to pricing and payment method, and relisted the item on eBay as a buy it now for $800. He says if it doesn't sell there, he will consider doing a PayPal transaction with me, even though he had been telling me all along that this would be okay and only just yesterday got the idea of a money order up his ass.

I am ashamed to say (but only slightly so) that I did make a new eBay account to "purchase" the item without paying. And I will continue doing so as well, if necessary. The guy made an agreement to sell it to me, I waited a long motherfucking time for this, and if he finna go against our agreement and sell it on eBay instead, then good fucking luck to him. He'll need it.

If I was the seller I'd refuse to let you have it on the basis of using a non-word like "finna". You owe the English language an apology.

I never counted on dealing with a douche, and that's my own fault. I've certainly learned a few lessons from this experience.

I'm sure he feels the same way. It's his item he can sell it to whomever for whatever. Just because you bid on an item doesn't make it yours. I don't see how someone can justify their own douchy actions such as creating fake accounts for fraudulent purposes and shill bids just because they felt "robbed" of an item that they can't seem to live without. And HE's the douche?? I know I'm new here but this seems kinda backwards to me. Two wrongs totally make a right?

Not just the bid. Keep in mind he already made me a private offer that we made a mutual agreement on and then decided to list it online anyway regardless of that. In what world is that not douchey? A deal is a deal, and someone who can't hold their end of a bargain is simply, an ill-reputed douche.

mrrom92, assuming you got these masters, did you also have a plan to acquire the legal rights to re-release this recording?

Yes of course, shouldn'tve been too difficult. Not like it was some minor defunct label with no paper trail, half the times this shit is impossible to do because of that. See: past failed projects. Rights but no masters, no records. Masters but no rights, still no records.

Fair enough. He did pull a douche move but I don't see where that justifies creating new accounts just to "get back" at him for it. Do you think it's realistic that anyone is going to buy it for the price he is asking? If not, and if you really want it so bad how about getting a friend or relative to attempt a deal with him? If the guy has it listed with no interest then hopefully he realizes he should've gone with your offer. Making fake accounts to bid or having others harass him with horrible best offers is either going to trick the guy into thinking the item has more interest than it realistically does (thus justifying his inflated price) or is going to piss him off and make him less willing to negotiate.

I completely agree with you. I had my head in the wrong place and it was a very immature move. I don't think what I did was right, but I do think given the circumstances it was justifiable, although that is not to say that I would do it again given the chance. Anyhow, if anybody else wants to offer him tree-fiddy for it, be my guest. I do plan on having somebody help me put in a decent offer, although I am still gonna be miffed if I have to pay more than we initially agreed upon.

After 6 long months of not showing up for sale, Kevin Devine - Put Your Ghost To Rest surfaces on eBay at a starting bid of $100. I know a handful of people on the boards are wanting this album. I'm interested to see where it finishes.

After receiving two messages indicating that he doesn't want me messaging him any longer, SURPRISE! A wild message appears,

I enjoyed your thread on Vinyl Collective

http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/85414-the-official-ebay-craziness-thread/page-331#entry1586815

Having sent it to Ebay, I'm sure they will enjoy it too.

Well okay then
