Isis - Panopticon (Remaster)

So, my embarrassing Isis confession is this -

Back in 99 or so, I bought the Red Sea lp, listened to it once, didn't like it, so I sold it on skylabcommerce.....

Never really even listened to Isis again until about last year or so...I have been signed up for Google Play music streaming service, and thought I'd give them another shot..

I'm hooked.  This band is amazing.

Hi!

New here. Huge ISIS fan and in search of all their records in vinyl (have 3 already). About a month ago the Oceanic vinyl got a "coming soon" image on the ISIS store and also on the Hydra Head store:

I know the CD is coming, hope the vinyl is as well.

Hello and welcome to VC.  Always nice to see a fellow Isis fan here on the boards.

I believe Panopticon received very similar treatment; there was a good amount of squawking over the remastered CD version with an extended art booklet, if I recall.  It never saw the light of day on vinyl... and unless they're planing on co-releasing all of the remasters on vinyl - however many they may decide to do - I suspect we won't see them for a while.  Fingers crossed that isn't the case, though.

Thanks.

I'm hoping for Oceanic at least, since I already have Panopticon on vinyl. Also back in august, Robotic Empire posted this on their FB page:

Hope it means a "Absence.." repress in the near future.

Seems like "In the Absence of Truth" is being repressed:

"First up is a double-LP reissue of In the Absence of Truth, whichRobotic Empire puts into stores October 28. According to a press release, vinyl copies of the set have been out of print since 2010. The album is described as featuring nine tracks that added more singing into the mix, despite the "'heavy' parts" being "even more brutal and crushing" than on previous albums."

In all my years on end as an ISIS fan, much like Derek, it seems that every other year there's a new remastering and remixing of any of their albums. Make this madness stop!!!

I'm hoping for Oceanic at least

In complete honestly... of all the remasters and reissues they've done over the years, I think I'd be most excited for an Oceanic repress.  That album can use a remaster much more than Panopticon needed one, in my opinion.  (Especially if we're focusing on the drums.)   Quite possibly being my favorite Isis album, I will definitely pick up the remaster of Oceanic regardless of the format.  But man, hearing a revitalized version of it on vinyl would take the cake for me.

Did you guys hear the remastered track (The Beginning and the End) they posted yesterday? It sounds fantastic. Almost like hearing it again for the first time.

I must have missed their post, but... holy shit.  Thank you for that.  I've often daydreamed of what that track would sound like "cleaned up", and it's exactly what I was hoping for.

I have way too many copies of Oceanic on vinyl and one standard CD version. Of all the copies I have there are probably about 4 or 5 different masters. If I had to pick the "weakest" one, I might say first vinyl press on Escape Artist would be it but that is not at all to say that its "bad." Just weaker than the others. The Robotic Empire remaster from early 2011 has a spectacular raunch and tightness to it that really makes it stand out. The same could be said for the Trust No One press. I don't know what it is about that one but I think it may be my favorite of the lot. Each time the album gets pressed it feels like its been remastered and the same stampers/mothers have not been used from one label's press to another. I can't be perfectly sure of that though. I know that after the big 2011 Robo repress/remaster, they ordered a new batch of like 1300 or something and also had a repress of Panopticon available at the same time.

Here's a link to a post about that last big press from April 2012: https://www.roboticempire.com/isis-and-pg-99-represses-shirts-new-nadja-shirt-floor-discography-discount-a-bat-peeing-in-tiltstorche-guitarists-eye-lotsa-new-distro-items/

That sounds really good! You have to wonder how much influence Aaron Harris  has on these RM and Remixes, like 98%?

I'm trying to stay content with my current listening copies that are seemingly flawless with my setup:  6th press Black Panopticon (have a spare, too, just in case, you know) and 5th press Oceanic.
