moonbeams
Does glow in the dark have a lot of surface noise? I bought Balzac's Inside My Eyes 7" the other week and it was disappointedly poppy-noisy. I can tell from the label that it is a GZ Media pressing. I thought that maybe the previous owner was careless. I picked up another copy (real cheap) today, but it's just as noisy. (I don't need 2, if anyone's interested, limited to 666 copies).
monsterrod
It has been my experience that surface noise is a standard pitfall of the glow in the dark vinyl. I believe I have read others make that statement in the past as well.
jblahmaster
Yeah glow in the dark vinyl is really noisy.
xjustinxschwierx
yep, there's some component in the plastic that does it, so whenever you see a record on glow in the dark vinyl, expect it to sound bad(or worse than other pressings)
mameeshkamowskwoz
My Frances the Mute glow in the dark sounds pretty good, I think.
vardcore
They add a GID powder to the vinyl and it creates surface noise. Some is worse than others. An acoustic record would be awful; a garage lofi record would sound close to normal, haha.
serum7
The latest Ataris 7" isn't too bad, not the cleanest I've heard but it passes the headphones test.

RustyShackelford
My rar doesn't sound bad either. Maybe if you turn it WAY up. But other than that, its good
AlexH.
My Ultra Dolphins - Alien Baby LP is wicked noisy. Bums me out, I just haven't gotten around to finding a black copy.

vardcore
One of the upcoming no idea records will have a very small amount of GID vinyl, but you will have to guess which one... and the amount.
peanutuk
I don't remember the RAR glow in the dark sounding bad Mine sounded very noisy at the beginning but once the music kicked in it wasn't too bad !
thieves
yeah it just raises the noise floor by quite a bit. if the record is loud music/mastered loud/not too long per side, it'll all help, but this and picture discs are the definition of form over function that caters strictly to vinyl fetishists
vardcore
Picture discs do not all sound bad. There are different ways to make them.
theinkd
the only glow in the dark record i have is the Skrillex EP, it sounds fucking amazing, but there is a bit more surface noise
geezfools
they need to do a glowing picture disc, so the glow is under the clear
starbeat
Picture discs are cool, but glow in the dark vinyl is just gimmicky. I'll stick with black vinyl all the way unless it's not available. It used to be that black vinyl was popular but some labels make black the rarest pressing available. How times have changed.
