  1. So for our 20th anniversary my wife and I will be taking a 2 week trip to Ireland. We'll be there from the end of August through the first chunk of Sept. Neither of us have ever been more out of the US than traveling around a bit in Canada. She went ahead and got one of those travel books on Ireland and has what seems like every other page tagged. Does anyone have any real world experience having either vacationed/traveled to Ireland or living there that might be able to offer some good advice as far as places to definitely check out, things to avoid, etc. We're both fine with doing a lot of walking/hiking and would prefer to avoid the really touristy stuff. Additionally, I would like to hit a couple of record stores while we're there, try to get to a sporting event of some kind, and maybe see if we can track down a local/DIY venue that might have some bands playing one night. The only thing I know 100% is that we fly into and out of Dublin, will be renting a car for the duration of the trip, and no matter what else, I will be going to the Bushmills distillery. The Giant's Causeway and Ring of Kerry are really the only other things we've come up with so far. It's pretty overwhelming... Thanks.
  2. If it's the original cartridge it is an AT95 and optimally should run at 2g weight and 2 anti-skate. Having had that turntable previously I can say that setting the weight without a proper scale was, at best, somewhat close. Take the money you saved on the table and get one of the $25 Shure scales from Amazon and make sure it's set properly. Also, it would probably be a good idea to make sure the cart is properly aligned. Download a protractor from vinyl engine and set it up right. I've used both the stupid protractor and the technics arc protractor and had good results.
  3. Managed to get Losing Streak on green last night. Missed out on Hello Rockview (by a few minutes it seems) . Definitely down to purchase from the VC if anyone grabbed any extras.
  4. There's a few articles like this one floating around:http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/replacing-clear-audio-mm-styli.366506/ Apparently, with a very little bit of work an Audio Technica AT95 stylus will work. AT is the oem for the clearaudio cartridges. I've not done this and haven't heard one like this but reports are that it sounds really good. The AT95 is dirt cheap (like $40 at Amazon and some other places) so it might be worth a shot.
  5. Yes, by out of phase I meant you would have the positve/negative switched on one of the speakers. If they are out of phase then one speaker's drivers are moving opposite of the other's. The most obvious symptom of this is a lack off fullness and bass.
  6. Is it possible that you accidentally wired the speakers out of phase when you hooked up the new amp?
  7. Looking for these 2 Allison Weiss 7"s to finish up my collection... I was an Island Double Exposure Vol 2. (split w/ Jenny Owen Youngs) - Black /100 Please let me know if you can help me out. Thanks for looking...
  8. Sorry... I had promised myself I would get them next chance I had since I missed out on them in the last batch. I did at least get the 7" that time. Down to the I was an Island 7" and a black copy of the Jenny Owen Youngs split 7"...
  9. Got both Allison Weiss tests for much less than I was willing to spend. Along with the new turntable I got this morning it's been a pretty swell day.
  10. Not really a purchase, but this morning I had a client give me a Pioneer PL-530 (minus the broken cover), Marantz 2285 Receiver and Pioneer CT-F7272 Cassette Deck. The TT got a good cleaning, cartridge transplant (AT440MLa), alignment/balance, and its on the shelf ready to go. Everything works perfect on it other than maybe needing to deoxit the speed trims. It replaces an AT-LP120. The Marantz needs some work but worst case will get sold/traded off. The cassette deck is an unknown quantity until I have some test material. Pretty good start to the day.
  11. My niece just stopped by with a black copy for me. She works for BN and had special ordered it for me after the sell out. Looking forward to finally giving this a listen.
  12. Had been tracking and was expecting a 7" Test Press to be delivered today (verified via online tracking). Was home all day, heard the USPS van coming down the street, got up and stood at the door and waited. Watched the van pull up to the box and then pull away. I went to get the mail and there was 2 Christmas cards inside, no 7". Now the website shows that they tried to deliver but there was no secure location and that I have to pick it up or arrange for re-delivery. Also says that all the info regarding that is on the tag they left when they attempted delivery. There was no tag left. Basically the asshole just didn't feel like getting out of the vehicle and walking to the door so now I have to do his job for him...
  13. I got my STWHA from Amazon just now and its definitely not splatter. Its a pink swirl with a bit of white and hint of purple.
  14. I like how clean that all looks with all of the white. That being said, that's probably the worst possible location for your sub...
  15. 1) What is your favorite cereal? Frosted Flakes 2) What is your favorite TV show? Family Guy 3) What is your favorite 80's song? Madness - Our House post the record that you most desire from any website ($30 and under is preferred). The Pogues - Hells Ditch http://www.amazon.com/Hells-Ditch-180-Gram-Vinyl/dp/B00LIINWRQ/ref=sr_1_8?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1436444692&sr=1-8&keywords=pogues&refinements=p_n_binding_browse-bin%3A387647011
  16. I saw this yesterday and pretty much immediately put in for the 4 album set. That Thumper album is one of my all times favorites. Its one of the first things my wife heard in my truck when we were dating back in '96 and I'll still catch her singing parts of Burn Baby Burn every now and then. I'd really love a test pressing of that one as well, but it was just a little to rich for me right now. Oh, well... we'll see. Thanks for continuing to make things like this happen.
  17. Finally got this thing back together earlier this year after having to do some long overdue major repairs (new PU, pots, rewire, re-shield control cavity and so on). Mid-90s Zon Sonus. Unlined Fretless, Custom top, G&L MFD, wired passive with only a volume pot. I bought this from Marc Hudson (Rancho Recordo...) around '97 or so. The one instrument I will never, ever part with.
  18. $30.14 shipped... I'd really like to pick this up but I just can't justify spending $5.00/track for this.
  19. I haven't been to one since PAX East 2012. I've talked about going several times since but the money, motivation, or time just isn't there. I went with my brothers and all of our wives when I went and would really like to get at least my sons to go to one with me. Oh well, maybe next year. I guess until I go again I get to live it vicariously through the website.
