If there's one thing I've learned, don't sell your OG until you have the repress in hand. Sure, you will miss out on a bit of profit, but it sure beats having to buy back an OG if a repress is cancelled.
Learned this the hard way with Mars Volta "Frances the Mute".

We definitely don't want anyone under the age of 25 to die over something as silly as record variants!
Let's drop it before it becomes a thing.

Really sorry your record doesn't have any yellow in it. What we have listed on our site/store is what we ordered. We were never told of any issues from the plant not being able to make them how we asked and when we got the records all of the ones we looked at have yellow and blue mixed together. Albeit, not as much yellow as i'd personally had hoped but still what we had listed. I don't think it warrants us changing what the color is listed as and in the past we've tried to communicate with anyone who's bought something from us in advance if an issue like a color change does happen. If you'd like a replacement or a different color you can email orders at topshelfrecords dot com and we'll do our best to take care of you.

Shouldn't the selling company put up accurate descriptions? Part of collecting for me is getting cool variants. In this case, there were three to choose from, so I chose the one that appealed to me most. It's a bonus to the music. I don't think I'm asking too much to be surprised when I get something that was different from what was advertised. Like I said, it's fine, but just change the description.

Keep You is flawless. I honestly wish it was about 20 minutes longer! The dynamics, the production. Umph.
I know I'm in the minority, but I really get into some "boring" stuff.

S'pose I felt the need to chime in on this discussion since it does, in large part, involve me.

In the spirit of transparency I will elaborate a little on my costs. My per unit cost for Lost Songs is somewhere around $8. It will be more once I see final shipping costs from Pirates Press - likely very close to an additional $1 each.

Per my agreement with John @ Deep Elm - licensing fees were 20% of gross profit (not sure how that was split up between the band and DE). So now I'm sitting at about $11.25 per unit, my cost. I am required to sell 50 copies to the band @ $10 each but you know what, fuck that, I offered to give the band their 50 copies free of charge (plus #'s 1-5 to the band members) because damn if they aren't one of the greatest bands to ever grace this green Earth. So add another $500 or so to my actual costs. Once you do the math you can see that I'm not exactly quitting my day job here.

I'm not going to entertain the complaints about $5 domestic and $18 international shipping because, hey, that's what it costs to properly ship a record these days. I refuse to send an international record out on a boat for 2-3 weeks to save a few bucks on shipping. It's counter-intuitive. I don't re-use mailers, they are all new and there are no less than 6 sheets of bubble wrap in that mailer (or 2 cardboard dividers) protecting the record. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased a record, paid $4-5 and that shit is rattling around in the mailer, taking a complete beating.

To reiterate what someone said earlier, I also wish this were a Graveface release because it's well-documented, Ryan is fronting the best damn label on the planet right now. However, I really didn't think there was any interest in the album and assumed it was never getting pressed so I took the risk. Yes, I view it as a risk because there's no guarantee these are going to sell out anytime soon because I do not have distribution nor do I wish to get involved with distributors who simply don't pay their bills.

I'm sorry that a good many of you feel the asking price is expensive. I have a lot of time and effort into this release and when those 200+ pre-orders need to go out it's going to be me sitting in my office packing up each and every one of them, very carefully. I think the price is fair considering that I'd like to be able to keep the doors open to continue releasing music I love. Or at least be able to give myself a fighting chance, ya know?

Something to think about (and it's easy to figure this out if your collection is on Discogs) is how many new albums you could buy if you sold off your variants (keep your favourite/artist variant).
Most of the time its not a 1:1 ratio. Depending on the rarity you might be able to by 100 albums by selling 20 variants.
I got into the variant game for The Chariot/'68 in order to do my part to help show that pressing albums on vinyl was a good investment for them.
Now that I've had to break up my 100% complete collection Im thinking I'll still buy all new variants in order to support the band, but not worry about it if I miss out on one because it sell out. And I'd probably sell/trade off all but my favourite/rarest along the way.

Their shipping must be strange. I just received a shipping email on Friday, tracking hasn't moved, and people out west already have them? I actually drove down to Brooklyn for the weekend, just got back last night, and I beat it back here apparently.

Looks like CCvinyl.com is getting into the exclusives train, I had heard about this right after the RSD version sold out and looks like they are taking perorders now.. Price looks better than what the RSD version is going for at least!

This logic is pretty flawed, dude. No one is complaining about the fact that the thread exists or fear of what might happen if someone reads it. We're merely expressing our distaste for the content of what is being discussed inside of it. We all figuratively "change the channel" by not going in there, but that doesn't mean no one should stand up and express their opinion that there's some objectifying, mysoginnistic shit going on in there. By your same reasoning, if someone witnessed a gay person being bullied for their life choices, someone would be seen as "bitching" by trying to stand up for that person instead of being complacent and just "changing the channel." That type of outlook is pretty fucked, IMO.
