  1. I own a 2004 Pontiac. I have 180k on it now. I bought it brand new with maybe 2 miles on it. Other than routine oil changes and tires, I've put less than $400 maintenance into it. It's surely a rare outlier, but I'm quite positive I will never drive a more reliable car.
  2. Dang, that is a killer team. I don't see how you can't win your league with that.
  3. My league has one more week until playoffs, but I'm sitting at 10-3 with everyone else at least two games behind, so I've already clinched the #1 seed. Here's the lineup I'm rolling with to close our regular season: QB: Cam Newton RB1: LeSean McCoy RB2: David Johnson WR1: Calvin Johnson WR2: Martavis Bryant TE: Gary Barnidge Flex: Devonta Freeman D/ST: Carolina Panthers K: Chandler Catanzaro Bench: Gurley, Doug Baldwin, Richard Rodgers, Shaun Draughn, Sammy Watkins, Emmanuel Sanders, Philip Rivers
  4. Dang, you're the first person I've heard say anything positive about Go Set a Watchman. I gave up after about 20 pages.
  5. English major and former high school English teacher (9 years) here. This is my (mostly predictable) list of top 10 books: The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien The Trial - Kafka The Stranger - Camus Forty Stories - Donald Barthelme Pale Fire - Vladimir Nabokov Moby Dick - Melville A Light in August - William Faulkner Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut The Complete Enderby - Anthony Burgess Yup...mostly dead white dudes. Except for the living white dude. I might need to revise this in a day or two after thinking on it some more.
  6. I saw Live with Ed 7 times between '97 and 2008. That band used to rock so hard. They were so much better live than they were on record. I definitely don't see Ed coming back. I highly recommend seeing Alice in Chains. I have to be honest here...and this will probably be very unpopular. The band's shows are better now than they were with Layne. DuVall absolutely brings it. And I love Layne.
  7. Got my Physical Graffiti 3 LP today. Good shape, especially for $13. That was the only thing I ordered, so I guess I did alright.
  8. Fuck this. Scott was always my favorite frontman. But I knew one day I'd wake up and see this story as a footnote somewhere. RIP, Scott.
  9. I'm going to add this to my list of best sounding records ever. This is now officially my favorite Sigur Ros album.
  10. This Newbury exclusive sounds very good except for a couple pops on Hunger Strike. This is probably the best I've ever heard Cornell's voice.
  11. Positive about the first three being my first three. Not so sure on the other two. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine Bad Religion - Recipe for Hate Megadeth - Rust in Peace Aerosmith - Get a Grip STP - Core All CDs except Recipe for Hate was a cassette. First vinyl was Neutral Milk Hotel Aeroplane over the Sea.
  12. The movers will just do their thing. Don't bother writing do not stack. As rough as they may seem, they know what they are doing.
  13. That's my favorite live album of all time. I envy you.
  14. Portishead. I've seen just about every other band I love.
  15. Revisited this album last night. Really solid stuff. Their best since PJ Soles.
  16. I moved 500 miles a couple summers ago. Like everyone else, I used uhaul boxes. I packed all my most favorite records in two boxes that I kept in my car. The other dozen boxes went on the moving truck. I wrote fragile and do not stack on them. The movers stacked them all on top of each other and put more heavy Shit on top of that. Guess how many were damaged? Yup, not even a bent corner.
  17. It takes me about 15 seconds to manually adjust the speed on my pro-ject turntable. Not having a button hasn't made my life significantly harder.
  18. A friend and I used to drive around in his piece of shit Oldsmobile blasting "Cowboy" on our way to work every night. Those were the days. Really shitty days, that is. The only way I would buy this album now is if I found it in the $1 bin and there was a half-off sale.
  19. Bought my copy when it first came out. Horrendous is a bit harsh. It is certainly listenable. I still prefer it to the mp3s.
  20. Any sign of the Afghan Whigs 1965 blue vinyl? I haven't seen it for sale anywhere.
