  1. I question these reviews. To some people I'm sure a crackly/noisy record is no big deal and there are probably people that think that's how a record is really supposed to sound. Me? I like a quiet, crackle-free record. Not pointing any fingers but there are people that have commented to say that these new pressings sound just as awful as the old ones. Or maybe it's hit or miss. I don't know. I'd love to own a "great sounding" Bon Iver record, I'm just not convinced that exists.
  2. I saw on amazon just yesterday it said the release date was 11/12
  3. because the vinyl versions of these albums sound like crap and i'd prefer to stick with my non-crappy sounding FLAC files? I'm just going to assume you're kidding.
  4. I think this is probably the best logical explanation. I have never bought this album because of all the horror stories. From what I understand, the jacket is clear plastic, is the supplied inner sleeve also made out of the same clear plastic? If that's the case, I don't think it's necessary to not use the jacket at all, I'd just put the media inside a different inner sleeve to ensure it has no contact with any of the plastic and as everyone should do with their records anyways, keep it stored in a reasonably cool and dry place.
  5. My sentiments exactly. I was willing to actually look past the lyrical content if the music was great. Alas, I found the music to be very sub-par when compared to PCH. That's not to say that I think the music is terrible, I just think it's not my cup o tea. I too preferred the folky stylings of PCH much better. Just can't get down with campfire, sing-along, praise jesus music. Looking forward to the follow-up for PCH.
  6. I honestly don't think it has as much to do with the way the album was recorded as people think. Truth be told, I've only heard the S/T black vinyl version that was previously released through a friend. But from what I recall, it too was a horribly noisy record. Noisy not due to anything on the recording but by the quality of the press. The nasty wooshing/brushing noise is a sure sign of a shitty pressing, not a shitty recording. Pity too, Bon Iver makes some beautiful music. I'll stick with my digital copy.
  7. Bleed the Sky is a great album. I think it's considered nu-metal or whatever, which no one seems to like, but I think it's a kickass record. I got into them back in high school. I'm actually a little surprised more people don't comment on some of the stuff I list in here. Lifer and Sinch are two of my biggest wants on this list.
  8. Got that right. There's a place about 10 minutes from me that I regularly visit that reminds me so much of Champion Vinyl (?) from that movie High Fidelity. It's always the same 2 or 3 guys hanging out, "running the store". They have openly bitched about customers that come in and don't buy anything in my presence. Bitter old men that hate today's music, hate that records are becoming popular again, etc. etc. you get the picture. It's a wonder they are still in business with the way they treat their customers. I generally avoid ever asking questions.
  9. Hmmm, I didn't notice any outlandishly high prices, but I also didn't have the time to look through the entire inventory either. I think I recall some pretty big price tags on some near mint condition beatles originals. I think I walked out of there with a new copy of Acid Bath's WTKSP and that was it.
  10. Amen to that. Lots of record stores I've been to have very rude staff. Snobby people that think they know everything there is to know about music.
  11. My brother lives down there. I visited for the first time back in March of this year. Didn't go to Skullyz but we did go to that place over by Tulane. Pretty damn cool place. Also went to the Atomic Pop Record Shop in Baton Rouge. Probably the most friendly people I've ever encountered at a record store.
  12. Derek got an extra entry for his presentation. That's why.
  13. The hot topic in my area has 2 cardboard boxes that hold maybe 20 records a piece at max capacity. They have multiple copies of about 7-8 titles at any given time. When I ask them about what they are looking to get in stock that's new, they just kinda say, "We get whatever they send us". Would this be considered a store that has an especially small inventory of records? I think all HT stores are located in a mall, so I'd imagine the space limitations play into that. At any rate, the workers always just say that I can come in and look through a catalog online and they'll order what I want.
  14. The recent experiences is making me want to get a copy. Is there a particular seller on ebay that is selling these? Maybe he/she is doing their own quality checks before putting them up for sale.
  15. I feel it in my soul that a Fragile reissue is just over the horizon. I hope my soul isn't bullshitting me. I love that album....
  16. I believe that's the answer everybody wants to hear. I think that's studio reference quality, which is as good as it gets. I could be wrong though.
  17. Yeah, I'm extremely curious to what you have there. Hope you get it licensed and press whatever it is. But I can't wait to find out what it is.
  18. right... yeah, that doesn't surprise me. in my original post, i specifically said that i don't care if it ends up being on black. I'm not a nut for colored vinyl. It's cool and all, but it's not do or die for me. i wonder if there's actually people that will refuse to get an album on black if they weren't able to get a colored copy.
  19. You mean this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00C7CTYGK/ I don't know how much the average price for this title was at release date, but about 30 bucks shipped isn't very expensive. This is the kind of price I'm looking to pay for this TOTD album. I guess maybe it's not half price, so I should've said "a little discount" off of the $40+ these pre-orders are going for.
  20. hahahah, crazybeats... that dude is bananas. I'm thinking the same thing. This is going to be available at some point, from some source, purple or black, for almost half this price. I'm going to hold off until that happens. And if it doesn't, oh fucking well.
  21. Yeah, there's another one. These bands probably just want to keep the already familiar names that millions of people already know. People are more likely to purchase new STP and Sublime material, than they are to actually follow the members of the old band to a new one. All about what both of these band's huge fan bases recognize.
  22. For my money, I'd much rather get a new one that's not listed as having any cosmetic flaws, as minor as they may be, from amazon.ca for 8 USD less. But that's just me. http://www.amazon.ca/Aeroplane-Flies-High-Vinyl-Box/dp/B00D5YNQ5E/
  23. Good to hear. MCIS isn't a total waste. For me, it's really only the last songs on disc 1 that have a huge problem, Zero and To Forgive. To Forgive actually being the most noticeable, probably since it's a quieter song overall. The IGD stands out big time on Billy's vocals. I'm going to be in the market for a new cart around the holidays so I'm really hoping that maybe a cart upgrade will help a little, even if it doesn't make the distortion go away completely. I really do have to get this boxset, so many great songs on it. I just have a hard time dropping so much dough all at once. When your blow money is limited, like mine is, I'd have to go without any new media for over a month to have enough saved up to get this. I have really bad self-control, that's why I'm hoping to get mass gift cards for amazon around Christmas.
  24. Haha, yes, I guess that's technically right. But you know what I mean... That's a lazy ass way to change a band name. To me, they should be "Kretz Bennington and the DeLeo Brothers Band" Ain't no Pilots without the Weiland.
