Hard to say as I don't have any experience of either so I would go with whichever you are most comfortable with.

I ordered these on January 1st and they arrived yesterday. The last of my four orders in total, all I ordered I received so that was good and I had heard none of them although I did know one or two of the artists.

So lots of listening for the next few nights.

I've wanted to contribute to this thread. I very much like outlaw country and I feel like a lot of the alt-country stuff is reminiscent of that, instead of the 'southern pop' that comes out of Nashville these days. Anyway, if you guys like the roots of this music, then you need to listen to The Flying Burrito Brothers. Their main record came out in 1969 but has made a huge influence. First pressings of it in good shape aren't cheap but it's been reissued. It's a perfect record. Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman went on to play in The Byrds.

All those who are there for the music are more than happy and have a chat in the queue

Yea I think Crosley and Urbanoutfitters are winning at the moment. I mean they now have flowery painted record players, which I admit aesthetically look awesome. But I know better, now.

It's honestly really sad these new people who want to support artist with buying records have no idea the damage they are doing to their wax.

We should start a movement. #killyourcrosley

This has all been said many times on this board so have a look around for more inspiration but some generic points to look for are:

The sort of pre  you are talking about is a phono pre. A turntable gives out a different signal to a CD player or radio tuner or tape deck, and most modern amplifiers now don't have a phono pre built in

With an amp/receiver it will have a choice that says phono on the front and rca sockets on the back labelled phono if it has a built in phono pre.

Heavy for it's size is good in amp, speakers and turntable.

When we talk about an amp we are talking about a thing called an integrated amp which has its main pre (CD/Tape etc.) and power stages in the same box.

A receiver is an integrated amplifier and radio tuner in the same box

For hifi 2 speakers is all you need

An amp or receiver that has connections for more than just 2 pairs of left and right speakers and has an output for a centre speaker and or subwoofer is referred to as anything .1 so 5.1 or 7.1 etc  and is for audio visual use for DVD's etc.
It is not ideal for listening to records but will do the job.

    Computer speakers are not hifi

anything with USB in it's name is bad.

With any of those turntables you can either go:

Older amplifier or receiver with phono preamp built in to speakers
separate phono pre amp to more modern amp to speakers
phono pre amp to speakers with built in amplifiers.

Personally I would go for the 1st or 2nd option but it depends on your budget and what is available.

Hopefully I haven't overloaded you with too much info but there are a million choices out there and many of them wrong.

Always spend what you are comfortable with and think about being able to upgrade if you want to further down the line.

Also remember it's not difficult to build up a very expensive collection of records in a short space of time and they are perishable so what you play them on and through is very important.

    Avoid this one!

They are not worth the money and if the needle is dead getting a replacement will cost a fortune as it's specific to this small range of turntables.

Does anyone know of any plans to re-press this?

I bought it when it was current because I like it and now I get a message on Discogs at least once a month to ask if mines for sale, the more messages I get the more I think yes I need to give that a spin and I'm going to wear it out sooner or later so a re-press would be a very good thing.

The first question is has this just started to happen or have you just set it up and it's the first record you've tried?
Its more likely to be the turntable but it could be either and it's a lot easier to try another record than another turntable, play a couple of others and see if you get similar effects.

Not wishing to be insulting but that isn't a great example of a turntable so If it turns out to be a turntable issue I would look around at an upgrade, something vintage with a little bit of research shouldn't cost you a lot.

OK, so Ill try to be brief.
Goodwill is a giant umbrella label and unfortunately with so many apples in the barrel there is some bad ones.  Goodwill is ran independently region to region, so my experience/knowledge is only what the STL area does for our community.  We helps thousands of people in our community in a number of areas.  We have housing for battered women, work programs to keep juveniles out of jail and off the streets, and yes our biggest outreach is helping to train and employee people who would not other wise be employed.  This employment is not mainly in our stores but in various environments depending on their work skills/abilities.  We have one workshop where works strip used computers to be recycled, a large crew that cleans offices/factories at night, and teams that repackage "local brand" products for area stores.  Some of the people in these work shops make more than me and yes some of them make less than minimum wage, it is based on what their work output ( basicly a per peace pay and not hourly pay.)  We are non-profit company and every penny we can raise goes into local organizations.

That being said our reasoning for online sales is we want to make as much money as we can to help as many people as we can.  We sell items in stores at reasonable prices most of the time, but yes some items have a high value.  The average customer we get into a store does not look to spend hundreds of dollars on their visit for a diamond ring or top of the line record player so we sell them online to broaden our customer base.  Once again I can not speak for every areas sales goal online, but only what I do locally.  Yes some of the stuff we sell goes for more than it's worth, but a lot of it sells for way less.  I would say about 75% of what we sell goes to resellers who buy from us to make a profit themselves.  I have 0 problem with what ever people do with an item after they buy it from us, but in my opinion I want to try as hard as I can to get as much money as I can to our organization and not let people buy stuff cheap from us just to make their own profit.

On that note...I should get back to work.  Check out what we have for sale because you never know what you will find at Goodwill!

Theres another post mentioning this turntable. $75 it may be but it will still wreck records over time and sound average at best.

It should be brown to match its quality.

Everything about it is poor and it's true value is more like $5.

A turntable does not have to cost lots to do a decent job but it has to do better than this sort of thing.

There are quite a few of these things about with different names on. Be wary of buying just by brand, just because a company makes some good items does not mean everything they put thier name on is good, a lot of these companies put thier name on all sorts of plastic rubbish thinking that thier good reputation will sell them but quite often it just lowers that good reputation.

OK if it has adjusters for speed then it's probably those that are dirty, I didn't think it would have them at least not as accessible.

If you adjust them and the speed doesn't change then the fault is probabaly elswhere but to set the speed you are going to need a strobe disc which you can download or one of the phone apps. worst case you can set it by ear for now.

If 45 is ok I would just do 33 for now but you can turn the adjusters stop to stop a couple of times before you start which might clean them but if not you will need some contact cleaner and if that doesn't work the adjuster (proper name potentiometer) is probably bad.
