I've seen this dejaentandu thing keep coming up on this bored so I finally looked it up....Was completely clueless about this band and any albums of there.
What is the appeal of this mall music crap? And how on earth is it so expensive for this album?
My theory: when this thing came out everyone who wants to buy it now was 13 years old, so it is middle school nostalgia music.

The person screwed up. It sucks. But you should just send it back and get a refund. You're even that way outside of a bit of time and aggravation. Agree to cancel the transaction so the guy isn't out $30 for a mistake. Especially considering that if he were to sell it again, he'd probably be out $100+ because of the condition of the record.

It may not solve anything but at the very least, it communicates a standard. I want this record. I'm not gonna lie. I like the album and would love it on LP but I have a standard for what I'll pay for that. I wouldn't pay the bulging prices for the OP on the second hand market and I won't pay $40 for a domestic brand new production that didn't cost anywhere near $40 to produce. I don't see the harm in expressing that. We all are here to discuss vinyl on every level and in an economy like ours, it just doesn't make sense to pay $40 for something that may have been produced for less than 10% of that. I don't know what the cost of production is for most of the LP's I buy but I do know that there is no good reason to pay certain prices. We don't all have to be complete pushovers just because we like a band. I'm not saying anyone else necessarily is a pushover but we should be free to express that just like we should be free to express criticism for the material of an album if we are fans and don't like the way something was done. Its not like every thread should only ever be pure praise and nothing else. There will be dissent. If you really hate it you can ignore it but no one should have to censor themselves.

No I get it, but what the fuck am I gonna do about it? Not buy it? Not a chance. Maybe that makes me and thousands of others a problem, but then we risk surrendering to the fuckers on eBay who buy most of the copies and sell em' for triple. Yes, I think Coheed is a great band, some people don't think they're worth this dollar amount. Great. I'm glad that opposites exist. It'd be weird if they didn't. However, don't come blantantly and kind of call people stupid for buying something that they want in a thread devoted to said fucking item. Not saying you did, I'm saying dreamover did. It's just ludicrous because it helps no one. Write Travis, Claudio, et al to ask why it's so expensive, or "Will the tour variant be cheaper?" or "why so goddamn pricey?" etc. They aren't difficult to reach. Even if they don't reply they'll get the message. Maybe they'll lower the cost to retailers and the black copy will end up cheaper. All I'm saying is: complaining to VC about this record's cost solves nothing and helps no one. So, PLEASE (I said please here) Cut it out.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. We as consumers have the responsibility to ourselves to have standards for what we are willing to pay for something and the more people just fork over the cash on a clearly overly marked up item, the more the producers of the products are going to take advantage of that and keep pushing up prices. Yes, there are externalities that factor in to the equation of the retail price but obviously we've seen similar products produced and sold for a much better price. We're voting with our dollars and we're talking about it. There's nothing wrong with that. There's no need to get offended because someone says something is overpriced. This is overpriced. Its sad that a new 2XLP has to run more than $26 as a domestic release. Many other labels can manage to press a 2XLP for well under 40 goddamn dollars. If there turns out there was a licensing fee involved in this then I would take that into account but still, I'll wait to find this at a price that suits me.

What the hell is wrong with you that you're so turned off by opinions that differ from yours?. I said I think this record is priced to high and you start jumping down my throat.

That's you. Not everyone has a coheed & cambria tattoo and would give their kidney for this record. Some people just like the record and want to own it at a reasonable price. People have every right to be disappointed about the ridiculous price that not many bands could get away with.

I seriously doubt C&C is hurting for $$ enough to warrant this price tag. Other bands/labels seem to be doing just fine charging $25-30 for their domestic 2x releases. I just personally think charging $40 is taking advantage of the fans who have been waiting years for this release. That being said, it's your money so do what you please with it.  I'm glad fans like you are finally seeing the rumors come to fruition.

apparently it came out last year, and i didn't know about the oasis repress either, i had lined up a trade for it and it fell through.
 
it's whatever really, and i went by discogs and then he showed me two sales of 80 and 85 and offered me 64.
I'm not looking to gouge anyone, but 20 bucks less than the most recent sells is a bit rich imo

I've been collecting vinyl for almost 15 years, I've gone broke more times than I care to admit buying up records. I've been doing it since before most of you thought it was "Cool"
 
What do I have now? this huge collection of wax and cardboard that's it. Lol, don't try and lecture me on why people buy records, I've never sold a record in my life and now that I'm thinking about getting out of the game I'm somehow bad for wanting to get the best prices? Thanks but no thanks, I love collecting but precisely the reason I barely ever posted on here or other vinyl boards are dessenting opinions like that.

I'm not inherently upset about it or anything, but yeah I've owned this record for damn near 10 years and am looking to start unloading my stuff as I move past records in general, so I would prefer to get top dollar for them.
 
I just checked discogs and it looks like the keyhole cover is holding it's value so that's cool. Also curiously, the represses are in the 70-100 dollar range...so much for not paying ridiculous prices

Who gives a flying fuck? Nothing wrong with represses so people can have the chance of getting them without having to pay ridiculous prices on ebay. If you're upset because represses lower the value of stuff, you're doing it wrong chief.
