  1. I'll admit I'm not crazy about deluxe editions with a bunch of live/demo stuff, and doubly so if there isn't a standard version available. Tag on some b-sides, compilation tracks, other hard to come by studio stuff and I'm a happy camper though.

I get where they're coming from not wanting to pay more for a bunch of stuff theyll maybe listen to once. That said, I do try not to bring it up a bunch since it seems to happen so frequently now that I'd be talking about it all the time.

I’m a firm believer you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a decent setup.  Everything I own is either second hand or open box.  I got a fluance turntable 2 weeks ago for $75 from Facebook marketplace.  You can find deals out there

You can definitely wait for deals on stuff and get a pretty decent setup for not a ton of money.

I've thrifted most of my stuff too but I blew a wad of cash the other day at the thrift store on a Pioneer PL-550 that was steep for thrift prices, but still a steal for the condition it was in and came with all its parts. I absolutely adore my all vintage setup now, and have a Debut Carbon DC that is gathering dust until I decide what to do with it.

    Hello,

What's the best way to share this hobby with the general public?  I have tried a YouTube channel and failed.  I tried a newsletter, podcast and website and all of those failed.  There are a few great YouTube channels by people who have the time and equipment to produce them, which I have neither, same with podcasts.  I'm not sure if I should try sharing with the general public since everything I have tried has failed, that's how I ended up on this message board community.  I figure if nothing else I can talk about my hobby here.

Am i weird and crazy for trying all of those things?

    Thoughts?  Opinions?

Please be funny if you're going to be a smart ass or mean.

    Thank You,

    Rich

    Here's the thing:

People who care about vinyl likely don't care about YOUR vinyl, and people who DON'T care about vinyl aren't going to be swayed to love it just because you do. I did the instagram record thing for a while and realized that while I love records, I don't love posting photos or videos of them and I really couldn't give a shit about looking at most people's collections.

Yeah, around 25% of your records sharing the same issue still points to the turntable being the issue. I probably have close to 2000 pieces of vinyl now, and very (very) few actually have pressing defects that cause skips. I could probably count them on one hand.

The fact that it's happening with select records is hard to really pinpoint. One copy may have had a tiny warp, that was just enough to bump the needle up. Maybe the grooves are holding dirt, or there are imperfections in the grooves you can't see. It could be anything.

Definitely try the  penny thing and report back.

Yup. Got my first skip in years the other day and it's clear there is a gnarly scratch I just didn't notice at first.

Bingo. EVR does sales all the time and if this is still in stock it'll be cheaper then. I started keeping a list of records I want that aren't my favorite bands or quick sellouts and it's been working out in my favor waiting for promotions, used copies, etc. This record looks nice but not $40-50 nice (and not selling out proves that). It's been a hell of a week between this, Caspian, and Dethklok (and probably others I didn't see).

That crazy expensive Baroness album too, that Plaid Room sale, and the Target buy 2 get one free books/movies/music hammered my wallet the last little bit as well.

I might actually cancel that Baroness order depending on the next single. Hard to justify at the price point.

Nah, I'm not buying this at all, and usually get nonsense in other topics when I argue about prices, so trust me I'm with you.

But expecting 20 on an equal vision release is a bit wild. They are doing 25 bucks single LPs for years now. So yeah the other 14 is the cross die-cut sleeve , and we have arrived🤣 But do I like the trend? obviously not...

Right on. Honestly at $25 I'd probably be in for this just for nostalgia sake. The pricing trends recently just drive me nuts!

As much as I agree with you, there is no basic version of any record available for 20 bucks in 2023 though

I mean, I get that you're kind of agreeing with me, but if you're buying this shit at this price it's too much.

As far as singke LPs go you can get everything from Dischord, Fat Wreck, a bunch of stuff from polyvinyl and the like around that price, a ton of bands self releasing, and major label stuff like...a month after it releases because it gets discounted hard because nobody wants to pay $30 for the new Ozzy record, Beatles reissue, etc.

Even bump it up to $24 and you see a shit ton of bands putting out basic 1xLPs in that range. $35 plus shipping is outrageous for a single LP and just acting like it's normal to pay those prices will just continue the increase in price from greedy labels.

I'll wait this out, and if I miss it I miss it. But I have a feeling I'll land one below $30 shipped in the near future.

I believe so, I know they had them last weekend in Boston.

Yeah definitely on the higher side, but it is a very nice release. It's a cool die-cut gatefold that has a photo-book that is built into the gatefold itself rather than an insert.

Might not completely justify the price, but they definitely didn't phone it in.

That's cool and makes a bit of difference, but I do wish they'd have done a basic version for $20 too. I just remember seeing these guys at shitty little art spaces back in the early 2000s with high school bands that never got out of the tri-county area, so it's weird looking at $45ish dollar represses after shipping. I dig the album, but I don't nearly $50 dig it.

Lol relax records get delayed all the time and you usually don’t get shit in return. This 20 year old music will be on your turntable eventually and it will still be the same songs you’ve heard a bunch of times.

This label is notoriously awful at communication so I'm surprised they even said anything honestly.

But to your point, yeah, totally. It's really not a big deal I just like shitting on them a little bit.

    From the label:

We are reaching out to you today to inform you that your purchase of the “out of 800 variant” for Finch - "What It Is To Burn" has been delayed. Unfortunately, when this specific variant arrived they sent the wrong color variant. We are working on getting this replaced ASAP. We expect the replacement pressing to arrive before the end of the Summer. To compensate our customers for this delay, one random buyer will be sent a test press of this record and we will be offering a 15% off code for the next week (June 28th) in our web store *restrictions may apply.

To compensate for our lack of communication and getting the wrong thing we're giving 1/800th of you something and begging you to buy something else as well.

10-40% off, most are 10% off.

All that already discounted stuff gets discounted again in your cart though...

That Conan record I got is typically $30+shipping and I got it for $18 out the door. That MoFi American Beauty is $60+shipping retail, got it for $38.

Even my "worst" deal on that Wailing Souls record saved me $5 plus shipping.

Plaid Room is having a big extra 40% off clearance sale right now:

    https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/collections/2023-sale

Discount code is automatically applied once an item is in your cart.

Oof. Wasn't really planning on getting any more records for a bit, but this sale...good lookin out.

7 albums for $141 which is...ok. BUT 3 of them were imports, so kind of pricey, and one was the MoFi American Beauty that I've been holding off on forever and is always steep.

Highly suggest everyone take a look through, lots of interesting stuff.

    Electric Mud

    American Beauty (MoFi)

    Wailing Souls - Firehouse (import)

Boo and the Tru-Tones - Show the World (import)

Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent

    Avey Tare - Down There

Conan and Doomsmoke - Doom Sessions Vol. 1 (import)
