  1. I fucking hate White Crosses, so just about any other AM! release goes ahead in my list. Black Crosses was alright but still not really an album. More just a collection of demos , acoustic renditions and unreleased stuff.
  2. How are so many of you ranking White Crosses so high and Searching for a Former Clarity so low...? Opinions are weird.
  3. According to a guy a few pages back, the BNOoS exclusive is red and the Interstate 8 is blue. From what I read, only European stores were supposed to receive the variants but the same thing was said about LCW and Long Drive and those turned out to have a few different variants.
  4. The first ones I owned were given to me by my dad and consisted of Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, etc. First record I bought was Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not" while on a school trip to NYC.
  5. Thanks! I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I forgot to mention that the engraved lines are filled with off-white caulking that's not affected by the staining of the wood. Unfortunately, you'll have to make it yourself if you want; it took me long enough to complete this one. haha
  6. Here's what I'm working with (plus some ATH M50s that aren't pictured because they were on my head): The shelf was one of my first woodworking projects, built at a friend's shop. The wood itself came from a century-old piano and the Unknown Pleasures art was engraved by a CNC machine. I've been collecting for around eight years but my collection is quite small (two top left compartments are full). I attribute that to the fact that I have a few other expensive hobbies and the prices of records + shipping to Canada has gone up drastically over the last few years.
  7. Seriously, I saw it at a local shop recently and I had no idea it was worth so much. Thought about picking it up too but I had so many other things in my hands.
  8. I remember buying this CD on holiday when I was younger simply because I thought the artwork and band name were awesome. I was completely blown away by the music, though. This record is pure nostalgia for me. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully it makes its way onto Amazon.ca soon enough.
  9. Has anybody heard the new Nils Frahm release? It's called "solo" and he released the digital version for free (LP available from Erased Tapes). Here's the link to the project: http://www.pianoday.org/ So far I'm really loving it. There are some very beautiful pieces on this album. The first few tracks are just gorgeous, some of the best he's put out in awhile.
  10. Considering it says they're "independent retailer" versions, I'm sure most record stores will get a copies of the coloured variants. At least, I'm hoping...
  11. Sent the guy a message asking what colour it was since there has been no mention of a coloured version. I'll wait and see what he says. I really hope this gets a coloured variant, though.
  12. It's absolutely ridiculous. I wanted to buy Do Make Say Think's entire discography, plus a few other records, and the shipping cost was insane. I LIVE in Montreal and there's no cheaper shipping option. I tweeted them about it and they won't even let me pick up an order - they just said I could probably find the records at a local store instead. What? You don't want my money?
  13. THEY'RE UP!!!!!!!!!!! Building: http://store.glacialpace.com/collections/modest-mouse/products/modest-mouse-building-nothing-out-of-something Interstate 8: http://store.glacialpace.com/collections/modest-mouse/products/modest-mouse-interstate-8
  14. Surprisingly good album on first listen! It's very relaxed and doesn't have nearly as much interesting guitar lines as previous Death Cab stuff but all the songs flow very well as a complete work. They also experiment further with electronic instruments, which is a welcome change. Overall the electronic sounds are lovely but I find they doesn't work well in some instances; most notably the synth in Everything's A Ceiling. It just sounds overly kitschy and 80s to me. It gets a bit better as the song moves forward but at the beginning it sticks out like a sore thumb. I really like You've Haunted Me All My Life. Builds up nicely and sounds like The National with more discernible lyrics.
  15. Keep in mind, that was just my opinion of the album. Some folks seem to think otherwise, especially regarding Pistol. I just posted that long ass rant because I don't see nearly as much discussion about actual music on these forums. But you're right, I'm really happy about all the reissues of their old albums. I preordered LCW and Long Drive the second I heard it was happening. Did the same with Interstate 8 and Building Nothing Out of Something.
  16. Let me start by saying that I actually really liked We Were Dead and Good News, but my favourite Modest Mouse "album" is probably Building Nothing Out of Something. I appreciate the range that they showed throughout all of their releases and while some songs on their newest records fell flat, there were still many great songs on WWDBTSES and GNFPWLBN. Anyway, fuck me! After 8 years of waiting, this was a huge disappointment. Here's why: - Pistol is definitely the worst song on the album. Don't try and tell me that "it's experimental" and "different and you don't get it" because fuck that, it's just not good. How does a song like that make it onto an album that's been in the making for 8 years? Ridiculous. - Lampshades on Fire is just boring. Sounds like it should've been a B-side for the We Were Dead... era. - God Is An Indian is pointless. Which is a let down because it's got the best title on the album and had the potential to be another Cowboy Dan-esque epic. - Wicked Campaign is fun but...is it really a Modest Mouse song? Sounds more like a Killers cover band. Where did the synth come from? And why is James Mercer wailing in the background? Also, why are they still rehashing old ideas and riffs (Lampshades, Tortoise, etc.)? And why are there so many songs on this album that they've been playing live for years? It's been EIGHT YEARS. You'd think Isaac and co. would have come up with more new material. There are 15 tracks on this album but only about 10 are actually new. Highlights: - Strangers to Ourselves. A nice introduction. Violins were surprising but they fit very well. - Ansel. Fuck yeah, island riddims! - The Ground Walks. Some good ol' dancing tunes. - Coyotes. Great buildup, nice guitar work and pretty harmonies. Lyrics are nothing special but Isaac's writing has always been most poignant when he's criticizing the human race - and that holds true here. - The Best Room. The outro is my favourite part of the entire album. "Don't you know it's hard feeling tired all the time" Fuck yeah, it is. Where was this emotion during the other 14 tracks? - the artwork is phenomenal
  17. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned the amount of coloured LPs being pressed for this release, something like 10,000+ so I'm sure they'll be available in stores.
  18. Yeah, could be about the coastal town as well. Either way, looking forward to hearing what it's about.
  19. Holy shit! I was playing him earlier today in the car with my father and thought to myself, "I wonder if he's releasing anything new soon..." This is awesome news. Weird cover art though, way too similar to Brand New. I also really hope the song "Sagres" is about the beer.
  20. Bummed about the release push back but still happy to see there will be a substantial amount of tracks on this album: 01 Strangers to Ourselves 02 Lampshades on Fire 03 Shit in Your Cut 04 Pistol (A. Cunanan, Miami, FL. 1996) 05 Ansel 06 The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box 07 Coyotes 08 Pups to Dust 09 Sugar Boats 10 Wicked Campaign 11 Be Brave 12 God is an Indian and You're an Asshole 13 The Tortoise and the Tourist 14 The Best Room 15 Of Course We Know Some of those titles are hilarious/weird/intriguing.
  21. What happened to the announcement that the band were supposed to send through e-mail? They mentioned there would be some limited things.
