Thanks a lot! I see you're in Montreal from your profile. I think we're trying to come out that way in November, I think we're trying to setup a show with Crabe.

A little shameless self-promotion here. I joined a math rock band 6 months ago and we just released our new album. We did a pretty limited vinyl run if anyone is interested.

I have that MOV press as well. I haven't played it yet to make a comparison, but having played this new Waxwork reissue, it sounds slightly clearer and sharper from what I recall. It feels as if it's been punched up a bit and a more oomph in the sound. If that makes any sense.

Is it possible to close this thread and push any future convo to be about Lingua Ignota and her work?

They finally put it up on amazon.ca and it's only $154 Canadian so that's not bad either. I'll get this for myself and give my dad the other blu-ray sets I have for Christmas.

I'm a sucker, I'm going to buy it anyway just for those extra special features and the 4k UHD Disc.

To be fair, cause I know everyone is dying to know, I don’t hate Freedom either. Seeing that much praise heaped upon it just triggered me cause I’m a sensitive lizard.

the songs were fun live, they’re a kickass band, and TSOPTC was one of the most important albums ever.

But Freedom should be left in 2015 and forgotten where it belongs. It’s just meh. It didn’t ruin their legacy, but if this one is more of the same, I’m confident in saying that it will be seriously tarnished.
  20. Thanks

Yooo. Thanks for all these! I've liked most of the stuff I've heard out of Canada in the past. Weights & Measures, Rockets Red Glare, Blake, North of America, etc. Though those last few are more post hardcore with mathy tendencies. But anywayyyy

For modern Canadian stuff, I would like to throw  Shipley Hollow from Toronto into the mix. My band played with them some years ago and I was kind of floored. And since then, they went from being a 5 piece down to a 3 piece. And their new format is just as strong in my opinion.
Here's their bandcamp link as well

I've got a few recommendations for current Canadian Math Rock bands that sound mostly influenced by late 90's early 2000's math rock and not "Math Core" stuff.

Baby Labour - from Guelph, Ontario. This album came out last year and is all instrumental. It's my favorite album of last year. I think fans of Piglet and bands like that would like this. It's two guitars and drums, the two guitarists use a lot of effects and when one of them is playing lead the other usually complements it with an octave pedal to play bass type parts.

Luge - This is another excellent album from last year. Mathy with a killer rhythm section. This one has some pretty weird moments, very dancy at times and mathy a as well. Great vocals on this as well.

Blessed - This is one of my favorite albums of this year. They are from Abbotsford (Vancouver) BC. I'm not sure how to compare this band but this album has some pretty interesting and sneakily technical passages. Sometimes the vocals remind me of Devo.  They tour their asses off and are currently touring all over Canada and the US.

I really hope this is either the Body Bags or In the Mouth of Madness score. Or any other score that hasn't been pressed on vinyl but those are my top two.
