Looks like you live pretty close to a major metro area. Why not find an actual store that sells refurbished equipment so that you can 1) listen to it first , and 2) have some basic guarantee that allows you to refund/exchange in case something doesn't work?

Your outer sleeves lose value as soon as you remove them from their original packaging. Best to keep them sealed.

What's the secret to free shipping on DD? My shopping cart says my order applies but then I still have to choose a rate option (there's no "free" choice).

Unless you literally saw them on the shelves, it's pretty unlikely they ever had them. I've done pre-orders through Amazon with the exact situation – on the release day the availability will go from "pre-order" to "out of stock". This tells me they never got any copies from the label.

Love. I've used felt and wool, but much prefer leather. I find it less reactive to static (although doesn't eliminate it) and doesn't trap/transfer dust to the record (since it's not porous/fibrous). I'd like to say it improves sound, but that might only be my imagination (I have a modest RP-1 setup). Also I think it looks pretty dope. (I have the black deer-hide one that you can find on eBay).

Cover is underwhelming, but I can say that the couple of new songs I saw them play sounded great.

Not sure I consider it more doom than I do post-rock, but I dig The Captain's Daughter. Gonna go listen to the new one now.

He does popup shops along the way when he's touring. If you're following him on IG then you should get the notifications. Pretty sure the prices are the same as they are from Burlesque, but at least you get to see the colors in person and don't have to pay shipping. And, of course, you get to shoot the shit with John.
