LordZagry got a reaction from radiatorhums in PO NOW: Suffocate For F**k Sake - In My Blood (10/28/2016)
Got a clear, and yeah, the sound is bad : there is a LOT of surface noise. I'm not too sensitive usually, but here it bothers listening.

LordZagry reacted to robes in [PO] Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Luciferian Towers
It's hard to pinpoint one reason why I think it was more powerful back in the day. Probably a few things combined together. They played material solely from the first three releases only, which IMHO, are their crown achievements. Hearing all of F#A# was immense, especially the Dead Flag Blues outro, which is beautiful live. Also, having a cellist back in the day added another layer to the sound, especially for playing the older material. Also, this doesn't take away from the recent shows, but you have to remember that back then, post-rock was still pretty fresh, so seeing this stuff blasted live was something fairly new to me (and others), which added to the resonance at the time. Not really trying to take away from their recent performances, which are still very, very good.

LordZagry reacted to The Saint in Video Game OSTs v2.0
Cuphead is one of my most anticipated upcoming games, even more so now that it finally has a release date. But c'mon, I am not spending $100 on a soundtrack when I haven't even played the game yet. Seems a bit premature. And yeah I'll be pissed if I end up loving the game and the soundtrack is sold out by then and in the hands of mostly flippers, but still not dropping the money now.

This new Iam8bit "Updates" page is great and all, but some explanation of the delays would be nice. My friend ordered me and him a copy of Ori, which was supposed to ship in November. Now this page says January and with no actual reason.

LordZagry reacted to ghost in Video Game OSTs v2.0
Actually, didn't Transistor sell out as well? At least, I haven't seen it on their web store for a while now anyways. Just kidding,
Have to be honest, the Hero of Time samples aren't really catching my attention. Production quality aside (obviously they are just mockup samples), the arrangements sound too dramatic/cinematic for my taste. It kind of loses the cute and simple charm of the original N64 soundtrack. I wish they approached this more like the Smash Bros Melee orchestra soundtrack "Smashing...Live!" by just taking the exact arrangement (for the most part) but recreating it with orchestral instruments. Artwork is gorgeous though.

So, it's official!
Really stoked to be releasing the soundtrack to Rogue Legacy. I'm a huge fan of this game and the score, so this is a dream come true for me.
We'll be selling it online at our store (best for EU customers) on Wednesday, OR you can pick it up from our pals at Mondo on the same day.
Any questions, let me know!

Look what just arrived!!!
The packaging is rather decent for Pelagic standards...nothing special, no Gatefold or anything....but that colours and especially that etching on side 4 are INSANE!!!

Sadly international shipping quote for the box is estimated at an extra $50 so I'm out, specially considering how weak the pound is right now.

LordZagry reacted to jbannon in PO NOW : Oathbreaker - Rheia
It's the double edged sword of the format really.
The actual physical playing of a record and it's surrounding environment can change so many things.
Vinyl noise is almost always in some sort of surface contamination on any record. More often than not it is minuscule dust particles that are the culprit, on the record or stylus. A good cleaning will resolve a lot of that, however even the cleanest record can have surface noise that is noticeable in the lower end of it's dynamic moments, especially repetitive ones (your ear will notice subtle changes). This is why we try not to manufacture "Hazed" releases, as the process itself leaves so much surface dust/sand on a record, it isn't worth it from an audiophile perspective.
Comparing vinyl colors in terms of "sound" isn't really something that will yield results based on color. Again, the X factor is always dust and contamination. Every time you take a record out of a sleeve, static brings particles to it. You'll never be able to run a proper test unless you were in a dust free NASA lab. Comparing a Test Press to the last record pressed of a 100k press would be an interesting experiment though. None of us press those sort of numbers though to do that. Plates don't deteriorate as they once did in the 70's and 80's, as we aren't pressing huge amount of records w/ the same plates in use. Plates are generally remade if they are lost, broken, or a release is moved to a new manufacturing facility.
I can't speak for other labels, but we are strict w/ our Test Pressings in terms of quality. If we notice any abnormalities, they won't make it to press w/ any record.
Hope this gives some folks insight into some things when it comes to vinyl. Thanks.

I'm thinking the hype was definitely justified; this record is leaps and bounds beyond anything Oathbreaker have released before, in my opinion. Love at first listen.

LordZagry reacted to drds89 in Isis (theband) - a discussion
Prob does belong over in the postmetal thread or EEM, but what the heck, it's difficult not to chime in. Like many bands with longevity, ISIS picked up and lost fans as their sound changed. Celestial seems to be the turning point in my retrospectoscope.
To the point, frighteningly again, I'm with the OP re: musical likes, in this case: ITAOT. My ears hear Danny Carey's influence all over Aaron Harris's beats that move this album. I happen like Turner's clean vocals, and his growls are perfect. Oceanic, Panopticon, ITAOT and WR are hard to kick out of bed (and the Melvins split), but I do find myself singing Dulcinea and Holy Tears all the time. Panopticon may be a 9.9 in many aspects, still play it frequently, and it never grows old/ love it every time. I still own 3 copies of it.
Early ISIS just abrades my soft, white Victorian underbelly
