  1. It's a star studded list that doesn't smack you over the face when you listen to the album. Hoping they can do the same on this new one! Additional musicians[54] Dave Grohl – drums and percussion (4, 5, 7, 8, 9) Joey Castillo – drums and percussion (1, 2, 3, 6), handclaps (1, 2) Nick Oliveri – backing vocals (4) Mark Lanegan – backing vocals (4) Trent Reznor – co-lead vocals, kick and snare (6), backing vocals (7) Jake Shears – backing vocals (1) Alex Turner – backing vocals (4) Elton John – backing vocals and piano (7) Jon Theodore – drums and percussion (10) Charlie May – piano (10) Philip Sheppard – strings and arrangements (10) James Lavelle – arrangements and production (10)
  2. I'm not sold it is Tidal just yet... but we are getting there. Pumped for DD to show up and hoping those on the wait list get their wishes! Also, as others have mentioned, I would have my alerts for resall copies set on high right now (discogs, ebay). As members get DD they may throw them out there under current market prices to get some cash for a release they don't enjoy.
  3. F-yes. ...Like Clockwork's second half was some of their best stuff. Can't wait to see who joined em this time around.
  4. Even though the limited may be timed based and not press count, that's still limited... Interested to see what comes out of this, especially the quality and timelines around these releases given the backlog at pressing plants. Will Warner pull rank and ensure these get pressed in a timely manner?
  5. This thread is very entertaining. Thank you. My biggest issue with the boxset is the usability of it. No doubt most Gorillaz fans will also purchase the standard or deluxe to have a non-annoying listening experience. The box ends up feeling like more of a novelty and collector's item than an actual DELUXE version. Hope most of the signed ones went to real Gorillaz fans so they can enjoy it.
  6. Can't justify spending $500 CAD on a deluxe box I will never play, even if it turns out to be gorgeous. I'm also not in the game of flipping or reselling to recoup cost so I hope someone who wants it to keep, grabs it.
  7. Website is 404ing me and heck, that's one way to ensure the deluxe variant will be limited. Make playing the album an absolute chore.
  8. Great news to at least see what the output is, especially given the multi-genre nature of their sound. Always interesting to see people underestimate the size of a fanbase. They have a huge UK following that often doesn't have the same voice on US based sites.
  9. Check out his new album '50'! He's still putting out solid stuff almost fifty years late.
  10. Not sure if this is sarcasm (I assume it is, but will respond in kind ) but I have never made them myself. They often require me going to buy a liquor, bitters, syrup, etc. that I would never use again. So I pass and really don't get any value from them.
  11. I view this list in a positive light.. OUT with the overnight lines just to get shuffled through a line to miss out on what you want and not actually stick around your record store; IN with the casual drop-in to see what is up and maybe pick up something else that has a RSD markdown! The lack of flipper bait on this list is refreshing, even if it means nothing that exciting to get riled up for.
  12. There's more to both releases than a simple colour variant, whether it's the 7" that came with The Fugees or the fact that the Weezer album is from MOFI plates but significantly cheaper and with a pop-up gatefold (not to mention the art print and cocktail which vary in value from member to member), I wouldn't say they were simply coloured variants. That being said, I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment that the supply / demand around DD is what propelled it to sell out.
  13. Garage sale items get gobbled up quickly, so really no need to utilize the larger user base to get rid of items; however it may be advantageous to show people another advantage of the club. That being said, the sale only happens a couple times a year so who knows... And yes, their taste tends to skew older. I love that YL album and would be all over it as well. Heck I purchased Combat!, Nearly Oratorio, Reuben and Ritual Howls all for full price when they were released.... and they all sit there for dirt cheap now.
  14. Gonna wait to hear more but the first single is great. Hope to grab the clear from .ca or from my local indie given the shipping is 5 bucks less than the record.
  15. It is interesting that a lot of people, myself included, are commenting on its' connection to a certain time in our lives, over the quality of the music. I think the album is great but I believe it represents more of a point in time than a timeless album, if that makes sense?
  16. They really have been on point since Lapsley, IMO (I can understand those who also disliked Glass Animals). Tennis may end that streak for me, as all new releases appear to be hit/miss but The Books -> Main Source was fire.
  17. Looking forward to being 50/50 on a bunch of releases but still buying them out of FOMO! Shout out to RSD anxiety...
  18. For me, Gorillaz is nostalgic and reminds me of 2005 and what I was into at the time. I listened to DD the other day, and it still grooved; but I'm not sure I would feel the same way if it was released today. As for VMP, it makes sense that this sold out with their 20k+(or more?) already existing members, and new sign-ups. They have stated that they want to reduce the runs of the ROTM and try to put value on actually being a member versus trying to hunt an album down in the aftermarket for 1/2 price. It is yet to be seen if this works... but I'm sure you will find a handful of DD in the aftermarket from members not interested in it. You just may have to pay a little premium (until there is inevitably a black press...) Also, love the salt around people thinking VMP is curating peoples listening habits. I subscribe because I have the disposable income to get a random record each month that someone thinks I should listen to. This is no different than walking into a record store and asking the clerk what they recommend this month. For me, VMP is 50/50 and while a lot of packages are spot on, the music doesn't hit for me (Lapsley, Nada Surf, Wilco). But I'm ok with this as the rest of my dough goes to albums I know I want.
  19. Good for them. Also, good for them on capping it. Hopefully it gets more people in the door for longer -> Better quality ROTM down the road
  20. Yes, but if you signed up for one month, you will have to use it in store or on your next sub. Not the current one (unless you went longer on the sub).
  21. The referral system isn't meant to be spammed like this release will make it... It's meant to be shared directly through e-mail, FB, twitter.... furthermore, you don't actually get the referral until people are charged. Due to the different billing cycles this can't be applied right away. So yes, a promo code could work, but would be just as confusing in terms of cashflow.
  22. Or towards your next sub cost. And while most releases in the past year you can pick up for cheaper on the aftermarket, VMP is making an effort to minimize their pressings and some will eventually sell out (see The Fugees as an example).
  23. It should come later as long as you click 'Join the Club' right from the link
