  1. Here's what his manager said about it on pedrothelion.org at the time:

in other news... Jade Tree sold their entire label catalog to Epitaph. which is a bummer. not because Epitaph purchased the catalog. The folks at Epitaph have been nice to deal with so far. It's a bummer because Jade Tree never told us they were selling it until after it was done. They never gave us a chance to buy PTL catalog back even though they knew we wanted to (we asked before). the good news, Epitaph is getting the vinyl back in print (same remasters we used for the 2012 re-issues). looks like sometime in mid 2018.

Also - not that uncommon for labels of that era to end up screwing over their artists, either by design (*cough Victory Records cough*) or through incompetence (Lookout!).

This proves our theory that the 2nd pressing was the FIRST pressing and they tried to cover up this lie by telling us the real 2nd pressing was first, thinking we'd believe it. But then, the real 2nd pressing got delayed so the fake 2nd pressing actually became the real 1st pressing which is now the real 1st pressing and is shipping first, which seems way too convenient and makes me think that there were actually two 1st pressings all along and the leak of the fake 2nd pressing first is just a diversion to the fact that we are close to finding the truth.

  3. I love love love the idea and mission of Folkways even though in reality I rarely am in the mood to sit down and listen to traditional Polish working songs from the mid-1920s or whatever. Such an important label that seems to have adapted pretty well to the digital age so far. Glad they're being proactive about continuing that.

There wasn't a comment field, but I would love to see Smithsonian Folkways make the jump to Bandcamp. I personally prefer it to all other platforms - they do streaming & downloads well, the ability to grab lossless files is nice, they offer a lot of features for labels like artist pages, bundles, subscriptions, etc. Plus it's run by kickass progressive-minded people who care deeply about the future of music.

The release schedule is sorta convoluted, with a rare instance of the physical coming out before digital:

The Horizon Just Laughed will be available for purchase on May 4th, and available to stream via Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora on July 6th. All vinyl pre-orders will be shipped to customers one month early, on April 9th.

We obviously  have different beliefs. Maybe one day when you guys will grow up you will actually see everything clearly. The news is turning you all into a bunch of powder puffs.

I'm outnumbered here in this Kiddie Corner of the internet. I think you guys are just still butt hurt because Bernie didn't get elected.

LOL @ letting every Tom Dick and Harry into our country. Yeah, that's a step in the right direction for sure.

*I'll check back later to see all the whining responses.

I think it's funny that everyone is freaking out because Trump used the word Shithole in a closed door meeting. Haha then someone leaks it to the media and then I heard a reporter say that "Trump is teaching kids a new word, Shithole". It wasn't even meant to be heard. It's getting hard to watch CNN anymore.

It's intellectually dishonest to pretend like the bad word is the problematic part. This is the same argument MAGA-heads employed when the Access Hollywood tape came out - "oh-so-sensitive liberals can't handle a president who talks like #realamericans!" I think the media is too easily coerced into reframing the argument as "whether or not it's ok for Trump to say a cuss". Coarseness and vulgarity are one thing - certainly one wouldn't want to say these words around kids, and to some degree I do think your personal conduct should be above reproach when you're the president of the United States, but also, c'mon. I know pastors who'll pepper a "shit" into a conversation as context allows.

No, the issue is the context of "[black and brown countries that have been decimated for generations via occupation and tampering by western governments] are shitholes. Why should we let them in? Why not let in people from [the whitest country on the planet] instead?" He says shit like this all the time, but usually even his smooth oatmeal brain will manage to frame it in a way that allows GOPers plausible deniability, so they just have to do a little cursory hand waving before getting back to gutting Medicaid and cutting taxes for billionaires. This time is the most explicitly racist thing he's said as president. You can't even call it a dog whistle, the mental gymnastics required to offer an alternative explanation are dizzying.

  7. Haiti in particular has been getting fucked over in major ways for literally centuries, first by French colonialism then by US imperialism. So it is pretty fucking disgraceful for a sitting president to call it a shithole when his predecessors are essentially the reason it is the way it is today. It's like if your neighbor slashed your tires, called your car a piece of shit, then got all sanctimonious when you asked for a ride.

  8. If you don't know what these are, Sub Pop sends promotional copies of new releases to record stores for them to play in store. They're black vinyl records in plain white DJ sleeves, with no art or inserts.

Yes I saw these but you also said " You'll find people from Don Giovanni, Kiss of Death, and Red Scare confirming that they ripped off bands and labels. " which was I was referring to. Hadn't heard anything about that.
