  1. The market for vinyl is just a lot smaller in Korea, that's probably the underlying reason for the prices. I go to Seoul once a year and there are only a handful of small record stores in a city of 20 million and most of the vinyl is imported, which means most (US/ European) new releases go for around $45. Tbh I don't know how much new releases by artists from Korean or other Asian countries typically cost though. I'd be curious to know where the Parannoul vinyl is pressed and whether they are looking into pressing a different run in the US or Europe for those markets to get the cost down.

Delaware being a tax free state is nice, but it's even better if you can get a member here to be your "ship7"

No that makes no sense. International shipping costs are fixed, none of us can do any better unless you are a bigger shipping company that can get cheaper bulk rates. And the savings in taxes far outweigh any fees they may charge (I can't tell exactly how much, but it can't be that much based on the shipping costs). So unless you can find a very generous member here who is based in a tax-free state, has lots of storage space and packaging materials at hand and oodles of free time, a service like Ship7 will be your best option.

  3. When I was a wee lad and had lots of friends in bands, it seemed like we just intuitively knew what math rock meant, and the aforementioned Owls were the epitome of the sound, so they (and especially the first album) get my vote. Algernon Cadwallader are eerily similar, but I'll take it.

Some of my friends in bands who I would consider mathy were these guys: https://clickers.bandcamp.com/album/ep002

Great energy, great live shows, and now it's all available for free, so check it out. EP 2 is a good start.

So the scammers are using those inactive accounts...are the records they're "selling" from that hostage account's collections or stuff they're making up?

Stuff they're making up. Highly desirable  records that could conceivably come up for sale every now and again, rated NM or better and priced reasonably but not cheaply. In my case it was a rare Axe to Fall variant. But most of the other records listed were totally different genres, just all in the same price range. The seller's original collection was mostly >$40 records, so the disparity was glaring.

  5. Happened to me as well. The scammer found a legit account that had been inactive for a few years and took it over. I realized something was wrong when I checked out the other listings after my PP payment kept failing and it was all records in the $150-$400 range. Fortunately wised up in time and didn't send the money directly. Weeks later I got an apologetic message from the distraught original account owner who was left to sort out the mess.

Ever since then I've been super careful, to the point where I almost missed out on some legit deals until the seller convinced me they were a real person.
