There are definitely sections where I think if they had some Mars Volta-esque vocals wailing on top of the music it would be ridiculously sweet

That's funny because I was thinking the exact same thing as I was listening through the songs. Not looking to fundamentally change what they are doing with verse chorus verse vocals or anything, either. Hopefully they experiment a little more with vocals in the future.

I am really enjoying this album.

I can already tell you that you do.

    And the previous album Lore...

And the one before that, Dead Roots Stirring.

    They're all great.

First self titled album is cool but I haven't even gotten through it in one sitting ever.

I listened to the new album a couple of times this weekend and I like it a lot, but the minimal vocals hold it back in a big way for me. The fact that I'm still looking to buy the LP is a testament to how good the music is, though.

I know. Its unfortunate that so many like crap like that. Thats why creed was a thing. haha

The common folk need something to listen to.

Oh really? Well, answer me this, oh ye of the uncommon folk. If you could only listen to one of the following two bands for the rest of your life, which would you choose, Dave Matthews Band or Creed?

From what I was told by AI, they recommend leaving it on 24/7. I've had a few tube preamps in the past and always turned them off when not in use. Since the circuit runs the tubes pretty hard anyways and really the only choice is to run Russian milspec tubes when considering sound quality/tube life ratio, I figured I'd just leave it on all the time for the sake of the Odyssey and the tubes themselves are relatively inexpensive. The L1 does just that, even when 'powered down' it still applies voltage to the heaters.

For me, the quality of the experience tends to outweigh the potential drawbacks, but we will definitely see what tube life is like as I am only on month 5 or so with these new ones. Appreciate your insight!

AI recommended leaving it on all the time? I'm going to have to check my manual... ;)

interesting. I do think I need to get some new tubes, but I do NOT want to have to deal with "tube sound" and be constantly wondering if another kind of tube would be better. It will drive me crazy. I like to tweak and experiment, but only a little. Too much and I never feel satisfied because I'm never sure if it's "right".

I don't need you to tell me to take it easy, man. People need to understand that real depression goes deep to the core of anyone suffering from it. Too many people still think it's someone being dramatic or just overly sad. Many times friends and family don't know what's going on underneath the surface. I want people to understand that and to help others get the resources they need to cope and to be a little more empathetic.

I agree with your message more than you care to know. I disagree with your tone and the time and place. That tone isn't going to open any hearts and minds to the message.

Chris Cornell's music meant so much to so many people in so many different ways. I'm usually not an emotional person when it comes to death, but as I ponder what his music has meant to me, I can't help but mourn his passing with a heavy heart. His voice and songwriting skills were truly special and will continue to inspire, support, and uplift me for the rest of my life.

Seriously? You don't fucking mature yourself out of depression. Even when people you know are aware of the struggle it doesn't always make it easier. It's a daily fucking struggle for people dealing with depression. It's not just feeling sad.

Take it easy, man. We're all fans here dealing with a tough situation. We all mourn differently. Mental health is a challenging subject that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

So much good music that has enriched my life. I'll celebrate what I have been given. Thank you, Chris.

Looks nice! Big fan of Odyssey and have a Stratos myself and an AI L1 (so far seems to be a good combo). Are those Khatargo's or Kismets? One of these days I need to send mine back to Klaus and have him mono-ify it and buy another monoblock.

Oh that's awesome, man. So far I'm enjoying the AI/Odyssey combo immensely. The amps are just a month old. I actually called to get a Stratos stereo extreme, but Klaus talked me into getting these upgraded and customized Khartagos.

I am so happy with both the looks and the sound. These things blow away the Adcom GFA-555 I had previously. Biggest improvement is in overall clarity and bass definition. Not even close in the bass control and detail. I used to think my speakers didn't handle bass very well. Turns out the speakers are fine. The cases are a customized color. I really wanted a super dark brown, but I used the words "dark copper" to describe it once because it would naturally be a very metallic brown. Dark Copper must have stuck in Klaus' head as he called me one day to tell me that my cases came back and they were very red, but he also thought they were stunning. He was right.

If I ever replace my AI (cross my fingers that I never have to),  I'll probably get an Odyssey tube pre. I like the amps that much.

Exaggeration aside, I have in fact revisited stuff from my youth just for that aww shit nostalgic factor.  But after one play of the album – sometimes less – I quickly realize that there's a reason it didn't age well or live on with my tastes, and I've gotten my fill.  For me, personally, a stream scratches that itch when the mood is right.  I'd never dream of paying money or wasting shelf-space to physically possess albums that I'd have to defend the ownership of with "but dude, the nostalgia"... but that's just me.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  9. It's great that the people in this thread that like this band can not only roll with the punches, but also understand that sometimes people like things that most people think is awful and just accept it, embrace it, and not get offended when people rip on it.

So do you like Puddle Of Mudd. You can always make yourself feel better remembering that at least it's not Dave Matthews Band, amirite?

  10. Yeah, I know it was 5x5 in the photo.  The 5x5 in the photo wasn't built improperly, it was just on its side, which makes it very unstable due to the way weight is distributed, resulting in the photo. Putting a 2x4 on it's side will put it in the same position. As I said above, I don't think that would be an issue on it's own with a 2x4, but start stacking units and putting 40lbs amps on it and it could be risky. Proper anchoring would probably make it a non issue.

Not going to say a whole lot until more details surface, but if you've been in the market for a copy of a non-bootleg Aenima, and have been contemplating shelling out $100-$200+, this is a fair warning to sit tight and save your money.

So let's entertain this idea. If a new pressing was done, would it use the Classic Records (BG/CB) cut, or would it use a new one? Was the CR cut from analog tape? Does analog tape of this record exist? Most likely a new pressing would be cut from 24/96 digital. It could be analog if it exists, but recent history favors a digital source cut.

Obviously I'd want a analog cut, the CR cut would be awesome. Could it be bettered? I wouldn't know, I've never heard it or an original pressing.

And finally, we're here, we all love vinyl, right? The CD sounds VERY good. Why anyone would want to waste money on a counterfeit vinyl copy is beyond me.
