maybe what we dont get is that it was always intended to sound terrible.

exactly my thoughts. the no dead wax problem is compounded by the mixing and mastering. i think the music on zero sounds fine but the vocals are all distortion

This issue cannot simply be a cartridge alignment issue. That's BS. The problem is maxing the levels in the cutting process. Its so goddamn stupid and unnecessary. They made a bad choice in Stan Getz for this one. The funny thing is that SD and Gish seem to not have any of these types of problems but on the big Kahuna they decide to get dicey and flirt whorey with the red zone and the dead wax at the same time. Recipe for disaster. The first half of most of the discs are great albeit unnecessarily loud but it works. Once you cross the halfway point on all of them it gets progressively more clipped. The only thing that saves most of the sides from getting terrible is the occurrence of quiter dynamic songs falling on those regions close to the inner grooves and dead wax but even on most the songs that sound good on the inside, the vocals are mixed high enough to produce crazy amounts of silibance. The soft clean guitars are ringing nicely but the vocals are turning red.
I know that any record is going to begin losing fidelity as you get closer to the label but this is the most intense and immediate flip I've ever heard on that process. The person cutting should have erred on the side of caution rather than max it for loudness.

at least with most of the vinyl I buy, I feel like we know there isnt that much profit margin in it. if a band or label makes 1000 copies of a record and sells it for $20 a piece, I dont feel like they are laughing all the way to the bank. CDs are so cheap to produce and package, ship and stock that the margin is really huge, and they make hundreds of thousands, frequently. Vinyl records are inconvenient in almost every way, are really hard to ship safely, scratch if you look at them sideways, and dont weather elements at all. Their impermanence is one of the most endearing things to me.
I got back into vinyl after about 20 years out of the game, with only my 5000 CDs and 100,000 MP3s to keep me company. The vinyl collection has become like an amazingly useful piece of art. I wish labels and bands made more money off of it, and Im thrilled that a groundswell of support from a largely indie-centric group essentially brought this medium back to life.

delivery confirmation dude. keep your receipts from the post office. take a picture of the items before you ship them out. if a buyer says they're damaged ask for pictures/for him to send it back and then you'll refund. people that are bullshitting won't want to send it back. if you're worried about legitimate damage done to the records, insure dem janx.
