Right?? This is the best I've felt about a new release in at least 3 albums. TBEITN felt like "Thrice discovers baritone breakdowns" and Palms was "Thrice makes  a mediocre mid tempo rock album," with both feeling way too safe. Palms in particular bugged me because of how good Thrice had been lyrically for years for them to be boiled down to trite passages and boring compositions (though it did bring us Beyond the Pines, a top 5 Thrice song all-time IMHO). 
 
This song starts with, "Overhead, are those angels or vultures? Heavy wings and the hum of decay - they seethe and hover - skew and smother the light of day." Mathy timed riffs, massive guitar and bass tones, plus the awesome syncopation and adjusted harmonies on the last reprise of the chorus.

And I just played the MOV gold and the VMP gold pressing, back to back, Record 1 only. 
 
And they sound basically identical. I mean, I could lie and say the "artist approved" Clouds Hill pressing is more dynamic, or clearer, but honestly.... In a blind test I couldn't tell these apart. They're both cut extremely loud and not much more dynamic than the original CD. Both of them even have surface noise in the same spots. (Beginnings of each side during the quiet parts.)
 
I mean, this is par for the course for Cedric & Omar, but it's still hilarious they pitched a fit over the MOV reissue, cancelled the FtM MOV release, waited 7 (??) years to do their "official" reissues, and.... They're basically the same. I guess the "back cover" is now the "front cover." GREAT.
 
I still have the box set sealed, definitely selling that now once prices start going up in a few years.

Well.  It's nothing to get overly excited about [just yet], but a RSD rep did write back to me, already, on that Dirty Three callout I sent them last week.  She advised that they take the RSD Pledge very seriously and will be "looking into" what I've described in the e-mail.  Refreshing to see some traction.  I would sleep just a smidge better knowing that I potentially helped blacklist a shop – one that's probably been exploiting RSD for a while – while knowing that their stock goes to a deserving indie shop next RSD.  Or maybe an even more corrupt one, who knows.

I'm happy I was able to grab a black deluxe, and even know I had a feeling they wouldn't do it, I'm still bummed the deluxe didn't include a vinyl pressing of the [A->B] Live. I would have happily paid more for a more expansive box.

If you guys are really jonesing for that mint-chip splatter, you could always hit up VC's resident mouth-breather.  This piece of shit is the only one selling a copy at the moment.  Just 1¢ shy of free shipping – make sure you pick up something else from his stock.
 

 
Maybe you can PM him on VC and see if he'll sell direct and wave Discogs fees – should be closer $95 PPD which is definitely a bargain.
 
Jokes aside, fuck this balding clown for life.  Dude has 0 interest in this band but still managed to grab the most elusive variant?  How long was this guy standing in the shadows, monitoring interest in this thread, and rubbing his micro dick over the potential hype and resale value of this reissue?  I gotta' know.

Yeah, this is going to take a bunch of listens I think for it to click. After a couple listens, I'm not in love with it as much as Audio Noir, but there is some solid stuff here.
