ThisIsHans
I always leave my mailman a card with a twenty in it for Christmas for making him deliver so many records. Anyone else do this?
ajhall04
I do, but the last year or two they refuse to take it. Don't know if there is a policy stating otherwise. Wish she would take it though.
timsimmons
I do. But this year they switched up routes or something and I have a different one every week. Must be a training route or something. I tip my UPS guy too. Since doing Amazon prime, the guy is basically here 2-3 times a week. $20 is a fair amount for a Postal carrier. sve
I don't, and I do generally tip fairly well in other instances. Its just that the USPS already pays pretty well (at least compared to others for my locale) and I would rather tip folks that can use it more and get paid a lot less. Also, there is a law stating that civil servants cannot receive cash tips, and that includes USPS mail carriers.
hallowken78
I leave my postman $20 - I'm not even sure if I have the same carrier from week to week, but it let's me sleep easier at night knowing I left something. I live in a condo so he's constantly having to run up steps to drop off my packages. And I order just about everything online.
jtcohenour
I bought a gift card for my carrier. He constantly goes out of his way to take care of my packages and I really appreciate it.
Metal Mike
I normally don't, but my current carrier is so god damn good that I gave him $25. jtcohenour
funtitled
i would tip my mail carrier however the one i've had for the last few months is lazy as fuck. he attached a record to my mail box in the hot sun with a rubber band (even though it had "DO NOT PUT IN THE SUN" written on it.), there is also the numerous times he has mixed up peoples mail, along with the time he threw a package up our driveway. (how the album survived is a mystery)
weinerdog
I was a mailman for a while. Tips were very much appreciated, but as stated above they can't take cash. So if you're going to do so a gift card makes their day. As for how they are paid, more and more of them are 'casual' (temps) so I wouldn't assume they're making a ton of money. Less pay/benefits, no union coverage and no long term job security. It's not an easy job, and much more physical than it looks, so for those of you leaving tips - you guys rule! futures
$25 target gift card for my mail lady I thought they couldn't accept anything over $20?
weinerdog
I thought they couldn't accept anything over $20? I don't remember if there was a $ amount limit, but one of two things always happened. Either the regular carrier was on the route to pick up the gift, or the temp/rotating carrier brought the gift back to the PO (never kept for him/her if it wasn't their route). Neither instance would involve a carrier saying 'this is too much' and having to reject the gift.
RustyShackelford
i was fully planning on it this year, until i was outside across the street when the mail person came by. I watched him drop my 2 record mailers and one boxed set (boxed set on top) from waist height down to the ground. hell get nothing, fuck that guy. IanRees
My mail lady is awesome when it comes to packages, I'll probably get her a $20 Starbucks card or something along those lines
aviolentworld
my mail dude is awesome. ever since he knew we had girls napping during his drop off time he would stop ringing the door bell and quietly place the package between the front door and storm door. he also keeps the regular mail with the lp mailer with a rubber band and i appreciate that. pretty sure he doesn't have to. i usually give him a gift card to target or a lonestar or something. QUA1L
$20 for my mailman as well. He's great. If it's hot, he puts my LP's around back in the shade. If it's raining, he'll come back to my house at the end of his route to give me my LP's.
nothingnatural
I used to tip my mailman based on his likes/interests. Unfortunately, these days I have a different dude damn near everyday.

avery
yup $20 gift card to target. he always leaves my packages against my front door even though it's a bit of a walk from the curb. he left me a card saying thanks and signed it "Mailman Dan". haha. jtcohenour
hallowken78
Maybe it's just me, but I actually look at the tip as incentive for the mailman to take care of my stuff....they know if they do that extra little bit to keep my packages in good shape that there is a reward for them. On the flip side, I'm always worried that if I decided not to tip they'd use my packages for dodgeball practice.
+hecollec+or
I don't even know what my mail carrier looks like.
